Adding to the wiki

Yeah the spam is quite bad at the moment an I have been deleting a lot of it, if you look back a few pages though there is a link to some things the guy who runs the wiki can do to protect it, as soon as he gets FTP access he's imma be updating a lot of stuff on the wiki so don't worry (:

I've read it, and I hope he will get his pc running again soon!

It literally just took me 5 hours to get my laptop to boot! And the browser keeps hanging up which is making things pretty painful, so it'll be another week at most until I can have a working machine, I may be able to give someone else FTP access to certain files on Wednesday if they know their way around a Mediawiki install though.

I guess now would also be a good point to start talking about how we want pages being laid out, to keep things consistent. I've created a couple of templates already that can be used on item pages, but improvements can be made.

I'm going to start looking around for a decent VPS on Wednesday to see if we can migrate things there, the site is currently on a shared hosting plan and they're all essentially as bad as each other. It'll be much better to migrate things sooner rather than when lots of people are hitting the site and it all goes down.

The spam is always going to be an issue, but hopefully with some decent steps taken to remove automated sign-ups (while letting people create an account) and with admins keeping on top of things it should all be okay.

We don't have any anti-spam plugins yet and I'm not sure how to get them. But I really am getting tired of having to delete "foot fetish phone line!!". Yes. That was one of them.

Page semi-protection?

I'd be hesitant to protect most pages other than the front-page because it creates more barriers to entry for people who want to contribute.

The harder we make it for people to contribute, the less inclined they'll be to help out. If having to fight more spam means more contributors, I'd definitely suggest having to fight more spam.
I agree with iamacyborg, I'd hate to protect to many pages and make it hard to add to the wiki. I have delete geeze.. Over 70 pages of spam and still going. I hope you can get some protection up soon:)

Also we need someone to find someone to finish up the shadow page and make a "shadow icon.png" because at the moment I don't have photoshop running :/

Shadow icon's been made and posted, I edited the template to include it as well.

I have some time to work on the wiki today, I'll probably focus on getting more items up. Anything specific you want me to work on?
Well I wouldn't wanna bore you to death so I'll do the affixes and such, but of you could make a basic "how to edit the wiki" page and include some templates that would be awesome, or work on the passive skill tree page, following the ones I've made
So far (:

I've listed all the Keystone passives, including Avatar of Fire because it'll be put in again eventually. It can remain empty for now. I'm going to try to get some descriptions up for them, but I may run out of time. That and for some reason the Passive Tree is being weird for me today.

I've also been polishing some of the basic passives.

I'm curious how you got the images of the bows from the site? I'd like to set up the other items, but if you have a more streamlined way of doing it, I'd be happy to hear it.
To get the bows in I just went to the weapon page on the PoE site and saved them to my computer, then uploaded them to the wiki by the "upload picture" option on the left.

And at the moment we don't have a standard way of doing things exactly but a table of weapons seemed the easiest (:
