Why don’t we remove trading altogether?

I submit that you don't know how damaging what you "want" would be to the game. Try playing Torchlight. You can get pretty much what ever you want there. It's not satisfying. Most long time players thrive on the scarcity that we currently have. It's why we play for years rather than weeks.

Is gear really that scarce now? It certainly doesn't feel that way. In fact that unsatisfying feeling that you describe in Torchlight is exactly how I feel about trading now. I don't have to do anything challenging to attain the gear that I need. I know that within three weeks of a challenge league I can obtain the necessary gear to breeze through maps. And this is playing semi-casually. The process is just tedious. I would much prefer to obtain gear through challenging boss fights than systematically crafting, flipping currency, or rushing to Atziri to obtain currency to buy whatever items I need. This is an action rpg after all.

And I'm not proposing that void batteries or shavs drop like candy. Only that they drop from a particular boss at a higher rate than they would normally drop so that a self-found player can farm with purpose. If anything a self-found league with the changes I proposed would make it more difficult at the higher-end.
I agree with you OP in a way. In fact, economy and balance around trading doesnt add anything good for this type of games. The thing I would suggest , as there are people that like to trade, is to leave them that option and make a separate league for people that dont like to trade.

One of the main problems with balance around trade is that character progression and item progression is balanced with trading in mind. And it brings huge problem to the game like risk/reword and time/reword that literally sucks in PoE and make it one of the worst games from all arpg out there in that regard.

Hegemony posted this awesome video on youtube awhile ago that explains a process that makes it relatively easy to obtain currency. On top of that if you level gems in your extra weapon set you'll make a few easy ex that way as well.

that vid is done in standard...

yeah....

I'm pretty sure he did another one, but he uses that same method at the beginning of challenge leagues as well (he mentions that in the video if I remember correctly). I've done it myself and you can make a decent profit pretty easily.
well I feel perfectly satisfied with trading as I have earned the money to by said Item

Want the easy, less challenging way out? Play the economy game.

Want the full challenge of being exiled, fending for ones-self in the wilds of Wraeclast? Don't play the economy game.

If the paid custom league options ever come to PoE, perhaps it will be possible to "make it rain" crazy gear. Until then, if you must have the best of the baubles, get good at economising.

Also, what Shags said.

Want the frustrating, handicapped way, play SF.

Want to play golf with a stick, play normal like everyone else.

Why is it always black and white for you people? There are plenty of people that use trade as a means to get somewhere without spending hours doing so. For me SF players are not special, they should be looking for a different game. Handicapping yourself by shutting out a key concept of PoE, and then calling it a challenge, pffff.

I wouldn't mind if trade were done away with. I also wouldn't mind if it stayed.

I don't use it, apart from a few times I pawned some junk for regrets or chromes when I was messing around trying stuff out.

I get the point of trade, but I also think the point of playing a game like this is finally getting something cool and interesting, not convincing other people the crap I don't want is worth the crap they don't want so I can eventually get something good.

Mobs already have the good stuff, and they are willing to part with it relatively easily.

I'd rather spend my time playing the game, not spamming GLOBAL trying to hock my garbage, price check my garbage, and vaal my garbage into even more useless garbage for people's amusement.

I'm fine that that is how most players get by, and I'm not advocating the way I play. I don't consider it a handicap, I consider it a far more rewarding waste of my time than trading in a game where the barter system is the only system and prices change on every transaction and the goods themselves are randomized.
