Since Dsync is a dev choice and not a bug...Isnt there a way to warn us or let us know somehow?

Baba Ji spam > desync threads
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

Isnt there a way to let us know when we are about to get d/resync? When we lag in other games we know it because we can see our ping, we can take measure to avoid it or survive it. In poe it's completely random and there's nothing you can do but get a good luck roll.

I know it's here to stay, it's a feature because the devs dont want a "cheating game", but isnt there a way that the server could clue us as to where we (are) with the sync? I mean if he knows he is not in sync with us and has to resync us, can't he tell us something?

After all those years, is there nothing GGG have learned to make the game playable without the "oops you werent there"?

I thought everyone who has played PoE for more than a couple of days knows, all too painfully, what causes desync and why it is impossible to predict. Obviously with your post you are clearly not understanding why this is so. To start with please read this:

Client-server Action Synchronisation

Ok. If you followed Chris' explanation then:

1. The server and the client both run the PoE game simulation.
2. The server is the final authority on exile and creature position/movement so the client gets updated
every few seconds or so (it varies slightly based on your location and ISP speed).
3. Even with the best Internet connection you are around 50 ms pings to Dallas (and probably higher)
so that is only 20 fps if the client waited for the server to send each and every position change.
4. The client is allowed to update positions and process our input independently of the server so that
we don't get low frame rates and high input lag and make PoE respond to our input too syruppy.
5. At some point in the near future (a few seconds) the client receives the server simulation's position
of our exile and monsters and which way it thinks we are moving or not. Then the client displays
in the next frame what the server simulation has done (client re-synces) and if it isn't a perfect
match then our exile and/or creatures are (jarringly) displayed at the server simulations location.
This is what we see and perceive as desync.

So at the beginning of the client receiving the exile and monster positions and movement information the next frame we see is 100% in sync with the server. Then as the client and server simulations continue we immediately (unless the screen is devoid of any movement) are going down separate simulation paths and are out of sync going forward in time until the client gets the next packet of exile/monster position data to resync back to the server. This is all fine and dandy if the "server action prediction" was 100% knowing what way we are moving our exile and how fast but that is an impossibility so the server simulation always ends up being different than what the client simulation shows us (the only thing we can see).

The act of making the server be the final authority on all position and movement calculations eliminates a ton of possible client exploits (game hacks) but in doing so drastically increases the level of desync. Unfortunate, but unless GGG coders can find a way to protect the client in real time from hacks there will never be a way to move the position/movement authority to the client to get to a much highly desired low desync rate. This is as one GGG dev posted back in a 2013 thread discussing this an "ocean sized" problem to cross and thus there is no magic bullet solution without exposing PoE to an even greater amount of client side hacking (damn the <1% PoE gamers and RMTers who will always try to cheat to get ahead).
"You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

It's also been shown that no matter how many times it is explained, the rate of posts about desync is unaffected.
My favourite thing with desync is the fact that you can't hit anything and you can't leech anything cause you really aren't close to any monster but wait... the monsters are crushing you!
POE and GGG are like the banks, never miss in your favour, always against you.

Those are more worth posting in atm than legacy, SFL and desync threads combined.

The server does instantly force resync if it detects a character death...

Actually, it doesn't.
You can find A LOT of youtube videos, twitch videos where people died and after using /oos they appeared to be far away from "current" position.

So we are at the desync thread cycle of the month again? Im waiting for the legacy thread to pop up.

Well, we had enough "I WILL SUE YOU, GGG" threads lately. Time for desync threadS to appear.
My bet is that we'll see "bad drop" threads next :D

This is something I don't understand. I decided to try for the bloodlines achievement, just beat merc Vaal and was on my way to the sarn encampment. Noticed a blue pack, started back tracking to keep my distance as a ranger with 60% evade and 30% dodge chances max resists. Then bam instantly dead, somehow they got around me. What a waste, never playing hc in this game again. Im still trying to figure out how even in those seconds of desync they killed me with all my defenses.

Do you seriously think some evasion and dodge and max res is enough? And this sounds too weird to be true anyways. As a ranger you never get that close that desync would even be a factor. Insta dead and only in a few sec even though you kept back tracking? Yeah, seems legit.
There should be a desync thread drinking game. Too bad I don't drink anymore.
