socket connections and economy woes: replacing a Tabula Rasa

Why?

The trade game is a meta-game. It is not part of the ARPG. GGG has no solid basis for an in-game economy (compare to EvE for example). Their choice of crafting materials as pseudo currency shows a desire, to me at least, to make trading a pain in the arse. Nothing in closed beta made trade appealing, took lots of yelling and screaming before they even implemented a trade window. Remember drop trading?

As it exists right now, and evidently has since (maybe before) I left just after Act 3 was added in, the trade meta-game is played using third party web sites, largely with third party tools, a hacked usage of the GGG website in lieu of an API, and opens the barn door for RMT. Not to mention this inter-league trading crap.

Just where and when did GGG decide that the game had to include trade as a dominating factor? To the point where it overrides crafter's desires. I mean, come on, the game has practically zero support for trading built in - how the heck did that translate into nerfing master crafting because it impacted the 'trade game'?

Color me confused!

I wasn't here in Closed Beta (started when Open Beta went live), but you say trade was not such a fundamental thing back then?

if so, I too wonder where this desire for "Economy Uber Alles" comes from.

also, I think I would have liked Closed Beta better: same Path Of Exile with (roughly) same giant skill tree, has trade, but not based on trade or balanced around trade.

You do realize in CB trading wasnt much of a thing as the game just started coming together right? Plus the player base was a lot smaller back then compared to now.

They always had this trade centric vision though but yeah, find more reasons to repeat over and over how much you dislike the rng grind fest and the evil economuh.
Wow OP got a lot of hate for simply saying (TL;DR) that it is tough transitioning out of a Tabula Rasa!

I can't say I disagree with him. Hence why I feel as if the TR is complete noob hook. Players get used to the power and then get upset when they look at prices of 6L's that actually do something.

They should raise the min level of Tabula to help players understand how tough it is to get 6L anything.

It could be just poor player conditioning.

I always trade off my Tabula's as soon as I drop them for this reason...I don't ever want to get hooked to a 6L and then have to go to a 4L/5L. It's a terrible feeling.

Well GL OP...I hope you do end up getting a decent 6L dropped on your head!

:D
Tabula is meant for testing. If you are using it on a real build you deserve the woes (not to mention the deaths due to lack of defenses and life)
Anybody can become angry - that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way - that is not within everybody's power and is not easy.

replying here, because Iluvatar_gr completely didn't get it, while you partially did.

Tabula being a "newbie trap" or not, is another discussion.
I got it - completely randomly - after playing the game for about 1.8 years. didn't know what a 6-link looked like until then.
total "newbie" right?

so the point is, if you want to be able to link 6 gems in a row like a finished, maximized theoretical skill set-up should be in this game, you either look to Economy (to either convert your orbs for Vorici or just buy one), dumb RNG (some people 6-link with one Fusing), or another form of dumb luck (open a box. drops on your head like Tabula did for me. slay a white mob, 6-linked white 2h-sword drops on your head like it did for me).

basically luck and trade.
fucking luck and trade.
and that applies to not just obtaining a Tabula Rasa then upgrading it into a proper 6-link.
it basically applies to obtaining *anything* and upgrading into *anything*.
but when it comes to the actual skills you want to set and use, that hurts a fuckton more than just "hmm my chest has 20 Cold Res and I need RNG and economy to upgrade it into 30".

so at the end of the day, RNG is an integral part of ARPG. and economy exists in most modern games of the genre in some form or another.
but no one said RNG can't be "targeted" or "biased" to reward based on risk, effort, and achievements. and no one said the economy can't exist as a stand-alone Meta without fucking with the balance and design of the actual game.
no one, except GGG.

and from the comment above by a player who's been here since Closed Beta - while I'm from Open Beta - it isn't even the same fucking GGG nowadays, apparently.

@John, i just thought of another way btw, the 1500 fuse recipe from voirici.

Do elreon every day + voirici and put all of that in a stash tab dedicated to a 6-link. In a month or so you will have it then sir. (might be a bit longer)

Point being, this will give a 6-link 100% guaranteed as long as you stick with the plan! Maybe swap to another char for the time being while you do it.

Also, i would suggest making an armor this way 6-linked, so you can utilize it on your future chars. Buy a really good rolled rare armor and then do the voirici strategy :)?
It is far much longer unfortunately. I've been hoarding fusings this way for months. I don't think I've spent more than 400-500 fusing since I've started in domination. So the total fusing I've got since then is about 1700 or 1800.
I've been leveling all my masters but 1 to level 8 with master rotation in party and I don't have the 1500 yet. I've never traded for fusing so the only one I get are drops and those from Vorici, which I buy almost every day as I have a lot of alt and jewel to spare (use master deal on them too).

Your former suggestion is better imho, buy a 6L low base with a decent ilvl and chaos bomb it until you get a decent roll, then finish with master craft for a last mod (hopefully).

When two witches watch two watches, which witch watches which watch?
If the witches watching watches watch the same watch while you watch which witch watches which watch, they switch watches; then, the watch switching witches watch which watch you watch.
Watching witches watch watches is not for the faint of heart...

1500 / 20 = 75 dailies, so you'll be able to afford 1 6L per ladder league, if you play regularly (say 2hrs a day, preferably doing maps for increased quantity)

Since FM start I've used the recipe once and currently have 1800 - 1900 fuse piled up in Std, that I'm saving for dunno what exactly... (I did not play standard during Rampage, only after it)
