We gotta do something about the state of trading.

I remember Public Trading Stash Tabs or something of the like being on the list of pending open beta microtransactions when it was closed beta. Probably we are getting some kind of Stores-like equivalent soon.

Yeah really hope something like this gets added. I haven't actually done any trading at all in the current system. I just find it to time consuming. Not to mention with all the different types of currency it is very hard for someone new to the trading scene understanding if they are getting ripped of or not. It is very different in a single currency system like gold to getting into trading and understanding item value( and no I don't advocate a gold system).

I opposed the idea of an AH before starting to play PoE. I still do in a way but I think something that is close to an AH but not an AH( if that makes sense) needs to be implemented. Public stash tabs is a good step in the right direction but not enough.

One of the benefits of an AH which isn't perhaps somehting you think about is that it shows you the value of things, how the economy works for different items. This is what I really miss.
Just posting to add my opinion regarding this as well.

At the moment trade channels appear to be instanced and limited to a very small portion of players per instance. But ontop of that, I've noticed that a lot of the same people are in these instances the next day.

The trade channels are a good addition to the game in my opinion, but I agree there is work to be done. The forums make a viable trading hub - but like said by the OP the search functionality can be greatly improved.

What I'd like to see is a more accessable trade channel in-game. I feel like there is no harm in putting 5 times the amount of players in each instance. The text can scroll a lot faster and I'd still be able to pause it by scrolling up in the chat window (which is now fixed in today's patch). That way there is more chance of trading/finding your item and less spam on the forums, which in the end, makes for a better trading system and allows people to trade more efficiently.

At the moment my stash is stockpiling with items that will sell for 1gcp+ up to a lot more than that, and I'm not motivated to try and trade for them. That said, finding a more rare item such as a 5L chest or a specific unique is almost impossible using the in-game trade because there are very few people in each instance.

So yea, to summarize:
- A LOT more players per trade instance in-game. Scrolling to find something beats having only 5-20 ppl actively trading in one.
- More forum search filters/parameters, a better function all together.

Find your own gear until the trading system meets your approval?

You mean walk around with 20-30lvl items on level 50 hero?
3/4 of my chest is filled with yellow items, which I don't need, but what can I do with them? I tried to spam trade chat few times and got 0 answers. I also tried to buy some stuff for my witch and still 0 answers.
I only bought like 3 gems and I have no idea, did I pay the right price, or someone scammed me.

That's another problem with this trade system. I never know, is someone defending it, because he likes it or maybe because it allows him to scam inexperienced players. Not calling anyone out, but there are scumbags in every online game.

Improved trading functionality is coming as soon as we get time. Thankfully we're making good progress getting through the urgent post-open-beta stuff so this is getting closer.

Does this mean that public stash is coming very soon? :O

I wrote earlier that I would like a better way to do trading in the game so I am with you in the respect. Your description of playing selffound isn't correct though. Haven't done a single trade and still my gear isn't horrible by any means. Sure I could use alot of upgrades but you can get by without trading. Playing HC and have two chars in merciless sofar, both by way of soloing 90% of the time, one in act1 and the other just about to face Vaal.

It drops so many items in this game and you can very easily get a decent weapon and resistances and hp up to a high amount just by using what drops and spend cheap craft mats like alterations, augmentation and transmutation orbs.

Still trading is an important part of an actionrpg so trading needs imrpovements asap. But playing PoE as a single player offline game works too.

There is a lot of anger here towards a suggested auction house, but it doesn't have to work like other games, and it definitely doesn't make it some other game that has an auction house. an auction house, in no way, means "GOLD EXISTS NOW PAY TO WIN" it would simply facilitate trading. Thinking it would ruin the game is naive.

Wanting effective trading isn't the devil: Bartering is great, and an auction house or any kind of searchable item post (that's an auction house, guys) could still be conducive to that:

List your item, either with "I want X orb for this" or "I want X number of Y orb for this"
Or, list an item requesting either offers popped into an "offer window" or hand typed offers, which the seller reviews, and can accept! Or, it could even be a simple system that just leads to whispers, as has been suggested, or even a searchable forum that allows for interfacing with the gear listed, and searching through that gear.

Hey, and this is an aution house, guys. This forum, it has one. It's just rudimentary and hard to use effectively.

@chris, Really happy to hear about coming improvements! Glad it's on the table.

it would be cool if people could setup their own little shop in town like several others games have done so you can go AFK and come back with sales ^_^
