Unique items that could use some love

What makes it a dust collector is the 'curse on hit' component. It steals one curse slot! it is huge in practice (And absolutely revolting while playing in party)

it might not be as visible when playing one-hit builds, but when using something like molten strike this enfeeble is pretty much always on. and moltenstrike happens to be the best skill to use with this shield

how can one use it? It has stats all over the place. I know that many theorycrafters praised it for that diversity but.. it just doesnt work. Anyone has ANY build using this item? This ele->chaos conversion ofc screams CI but.. it just doesnt work. I tried only briefly so please - correct me if im wrong with this one


I actually used one on my CI Phys Wander for a while. You pretty much waste a lot of stats though.
- the life is pointless for a CI build.
- the leech is pointless since you get free bloodrage.

With a hybrid life/es build that reserves part of it's life you would need to run 75% chaos resist - which is pretty much impossible - or get destroyed by elemental damage. I'd love to use this item but it's just too dangerous atm.


The best solution would be to change the mod to "25% of Elemental Damage bypasses Energy Shield" the easier - but worse - one would be to add chaos resistance to the chest (30%+). This would break the chest for CI though, unless GGG changes CI to "Immune to damage bypassing ES"



For other uniques: Pretty much all weapons are problematic since base damage is so damn important. i have to say that D3's system works a lot better for weapons since you essentially roll a rare with a unique mod.

sadly.. supporter wanted something else and was overruled because of 'reasons'

and we judge items, not their history - item is meh. it has absolutely nothing interesting. nor desirable. it is a generic 'life + AR/EV - resists + 2gimmick stats noone cares about'

You know, when I read words like "all the dejection we felt along the process" I have a feeling, that this all "create your own unique" was a noob trap RNG based (because if you had luck to got in proper time, you unique is OPeness but if not, you got Malefiance).

But at least we can hope, that it will get 3D art some day and it will make it useful at last.

So it's a good rare chest, with a unique twist, but can still be beaten by a better rolled rare. Which if i recall is what uniques are meant to be. So what's the problem?

Maybe this - no resists. Hugr price to pay for two gummick mods noone (except vocal theorycrafters) cares about.

Maybe this - EV/AR suck as defence mechanic so badly that pretty much noone cares about the values on this thing

Maybe this - if one wants damage from the chest (or more general - melee chest) there are plenty more deffensive (lightning coil) or offensive (darresso) options. And if one does not like unique chest pretty much 1c rare chest can be better (resistances free slots in other items - thus by droping this chest and equiping rare with 100resists one can use unique item with better unique properties).

Build with this item can pretty much always be better without it. Ofc people can be m8sleaded by that plus chaos dmg (that is increased so in reality means like 1% more..) or leech rate that..makes no difference anyway..

It's more of a bad rare chest with a unique twist; except that this unique twist is useless (the increased chaos damage is ridiculously small, and the increased leech rate is meh at best). With that into account, it becomes just a bad rare... A level 69 bad rare, who can be replaced with pretty much anything with life+res.


I sort uniques in 3 categories :
-twink uniques, who are strong for their level but can and will be replaced by rares later
-build enabling uniques, that you keep for their unique modifier even if their other modifiers are bad
-useless uniques, who, even if you try to build around them, will simply be subpar to anything else you can equip.


Sadly Cherubim is of the later variety.
Like I said atleast it is a little better than hyrri. Unfortunately the current linking system ensures that these weaker armors will never ever be used. Just one more reason to have links character bound and not item bound. Lot of these simply are not worth the multi exa investment for people to just try

oh please..

block, arctic armor, dodge, spell dodge/block, CwDT+IC are all way better than pure AR/EV. i stopped caring about AR/EV values long ago.

what matters is damage. this is the current meta. i have a self cast spark with 2900 life doing lvl 75 rare maps WITHOUT A SINGLE ISSUE. no armor, no ev, i do not even have overcapped resists - use topaz for reflect.

i just kill stuff quicker than that stuff can shoot back and what comes trough is absorbed by AA and immediately healed via leech

you can make uber-EV or uber-AR build, sure, and that might even work. but if you do - youd start with 2k+ item

AR/EV are important mid game when secondary defences are not effective yet - sure. but this chest is not a mid-game item
You just compared AR/EV to things that you can get with that chest. That item doesn't prevent you from using those other defense mechanics.
