softcore is... exactly the same GAME as playing HC. if it bores you, something is wrong with your general expectation ^^
There's nothing you can do in HC but not in standard, even to prove that you never died (not by ladder, but by char validation, but thats just a minor difference - at least since the ladders only list by around 5% of the chars). Nothing forces you to play different than you would do in HC.
But there are a lot of things said to be impossible in HC, but no issue on "the other side"... ;)
It isn't the same game.
1. Worse average gear available.
2. Different valuation of items.
It is only the same game if you both don't play in any challenge league (which is stupid because the main focus of PoE are the challenge leagues) and play exclusively solo and with no trading.

I don't play HC because I just died. I was fairly confident I was going to, though, since I was fighting all of the Beyond bosses on Mao Kun. At least I finished the Fairgraves challenge first.
Will I go back? I don't know. The bosses are cool and I'd like to keep fighting them, but there's so much stuff in the game that kills you if you actually try to play against it. I like doing things that have a reasonable chance of failure. I don't like having to throw my character in the garbage* when that failure finally hits (and it will). I really don't like throwing about 12 exalts in gear in the garbage, either. I super really don't like having to re-level the exact same character and buy the exact same gear if I want to play keep playing him. That's terrible.
I just can't log out whenever I see something scary or skip content that's difficult. It really sucks that the best of the challenging content is always in HC leagues, where you're highly motivated to skip it entirely until you're so powerful that it's no longer a challenge. Fighting Abaxoth on Mao Kun was fun. I can't pass up fun like that, even if I know it has about a 95% chance of junking my character.
Why can't we have a non-HC league with the cool content that HC leagues get?
* I'm not saying that standard is a garbage league. My character is just thrown in the garbage from the perspective of the HC league.
this ! wondering the same why sc league arent as challenging !

I think softcore is kind of boring.
I dislike the games cheap HC deaths however. Going down to desync, or mob bugs, its just not fun knowing that sooner or later ill slack and play the game like an ARPG and then die to desync. So I have to play uber caution...which isn't really all that fun to begin with but at least I get a feeling of some sort of accomplishment for it...something I lack in SC.
So its a game that im kind of torn between softcore and not having the lame cheap deaths be an issue, but lacking the sense of accomplishment...or go HC, further restrict what builds I can use that are both tanky and desync friendly, and know that ill most likely go down due to poor game code in the end.
just for try, for see and for know

I used to play it all the time, but now started on rampage instead. HC is certainly more entertaining. However, leveling a character to the point where the game gets interesting again takes a lot of time. I'd rather be enjoying myself the entire time instead of only after another 10h of leveling.
So basically for me the reason would be time investment.

I don't normally play HC because of desync.

I play softcore.
On softcore, most of the time there isn't a single map where desync doesn't happen for me. This, without using desync inducing skills either.
Whether 0.5 seconds or 2 seconds, it's there.
So yeah, I just don't get into hardcore because I know sooner or later that pack of goats would teleport on top of me.
If it wasn't for that, i'd give it a try.

This makes no sense. Dying in HC is the same as dying in SC. The only difference in HC is your player exits the league. The accomplishment is the same if you have zero deaths in SC than it is in HC. Only if you have a "cheap" death in SC it doesn't hurt as much. Altho the exp penalty is so severe in SC from the 80's on.
The only thing the hardcore players have accomplished is avoiding cheap deaths as much as possible while grouping, and having AHK logout ready!
Kudo's HC players! You guys really are gud!

Dying in Beyond is not the same thing as dying in Rampage.
You will have on average worse gear in Beyond. The challenge-specific mods are different as well.
And noone in their right mind plays legacy hardcore so it is pointless to discuss that one.
