because cookie cutter melee is what makes melee boring lol. I have had a BoR build when it was the cool thing to do that pulled 70K with resolution technique .... dual strike. You are talking about the most boring, regular melee builds there. That is really old.

People stopped making those builds cause are always the same and on a huge disadvantage compared to other classes. You must have been playing this game less than me probably ...

we're discussing the viability of melee builds, not how flashy they are. it's all about how you play, melee is not at a disadvantage. you're using the wrong word.

Ok melee is at a disadvantage because the need to be at point blank range to attack, that is basically what melee is.

you do not have to be at a point blank range. there are plenty of AOE melee skills that benefit from the iAOE gem.

cleave, molten strike, ground slam, infernal blow.

for the non-aoe you have melee splash. if you think melee is at a disadvantage then you havent made the right build. if you think melee is boring then you haven't made the right build.

I am not talking about flashyness. I am talking about technical huge disadvantages compared to other classes, and how melee has been left over as the more inefficient thing to play.

Melee needs new, much more developed skills and a huge buff of its core mechanics to compete with other classes. Let´s see if GGG is going to do something else to it besides buffing the damage.

back in my day melee wasnt even viable cuz this game was so clunky. it's come a long way, and melee has plenty of variety. no one's discovered it yet because they're too busy exploring their bows and arrows or their black magic.

Uhm ... Ok.
Melee is always at a disadvantage because they have less range, that dosent me melee is not viable but its always safer to kill an enemy at a range especially in hardcore

I keep thinking that melee is underloved and there could be at least more cool supports for it.

There are a lot of things that could be done to make it more appealing besides the damage.

Ranged skills have much more cooler supports than melee.

Instead of adapting melee to ranged / projectiles ( spectral throw, molten strike ) It might be cooler if the devs created some more nicer supports for the actual melee skills.

As long as melee characters draw from the same pool of defensive resources as ranged characters, they'll always be at a disadvantage defensively. That's just the way she goes.

You've got to be a special kind of crazy to play melee builds in PoE. That's a fact.
