First school of capitalism, anything that is inherently better must be in higher demand, and assume equal supply of all goods, which is fairly easy to assume for digital distribution, it therefore must be more expensive thus since the cost to play D3 > cost to play POE, D3 > POE QED

This would be relevant if the games were actually released and Grinding Gears business perspective were more traditional. (Here's a hint, it isn't.)
Life is so easy when you've never been a Diablo fan. No agonizing wait for the third one, fear that they'll ruin it or the need to compare every damn ARPG ever to Diablo II.

If we take away the legacy of D2 from D3, what D3 is left with is closer to what Torchlight 1 was.

They are two different games, almost entirely. D3 is a simplified game that is going to lack the hardcore options that POE will give you... you'll have fun killing stuff and getting loot, and maybe buying and selling it for real money. POE will give you the opportunities that D3 left out, like cut throat modes, pvp, resource management, and much larger character customization.

that post makes no sense at all

D3 is NOTHING like TL1

TL1 has both stat points and skill points
D3 has neither

D3 has a deep. strong story
TL1 had very little

D3 has TONS of character customization
TL1, again, very little

D3 has PvP
TL1, none

those 2 games are so far apart, they don't even remotely resemble each other

"D3 is a simplified game that is going to lack the hardcore options that POE will give you"

what a joke !
do you know anything about D3 ? anything at all ?

in D3 Inferno difficulty your char will be max level 60, but every monster is guaranteed to be higher level than you
and when your hard core char dies in Inferno, its dead.
There is no "he converts to a regular char", your char is dead, gone, no more

now while its true that D3 won't have open world PvP, I have no problem with that

I DO like open world PvP, I wish warhammer online would get its act together and be the game it was supposed to be

I think the arena PvP is the best option for a hack and slash game: good team based PvP, where the teams are evenly matched

I don't want to be running around in a 4 player game with 3 higher level players chasing me

what fun is that ?

the arena will be reminiscent to warhammer's scenarios, which I really enjoyed

"POE will give you the opportunities that D3 left out, like ... resource management, and much larger character customization"

"resource management" ??
what does that even mean
the only resource you had in D2 was stat and skill points, and 90% of the time, everybody did the same thing, regardless of what char you played

str = enough for gear
dex = enogu for max block
vit = everything else
energy = none

skill points = max one skill, build up its synergies, maybe get another skill for immunes

there was no "resource management" in D2

and the skill and rune system is going to lead to tons of char custimization

its like instead of having a D2 sorc that was locked into lightning, you now have a sorc that can be an melee mage enchanter, then in 30 minutes switch her to a lightning sorc, then 30 minutes later change her again, anyway you want

POE will be great, but it will not hold a candle to D3

D3 will have a deep and interesting story; it will have complex and interesting builds; the arena PvP will be loads of fun and Inferno will kick ass

jamesl.. have you played D3?
"the premier Action RPG for hardcore gamers."

You missed most of the point of my post. Your replies indicate that you were answering your own questions that you manifested out of bits and pieces of what I said (a pseudo-class strawman)... therefore I can't really respond or continue such a conversation.

My first impression of D3 is of its look, and a wow clone it isn't, but it graphically reminds me of Dungeon Siege 3.
I haven't seen enough of how in depth the customization really is for D3 (or Torchlight 2 for that matter). In the case for Torchlight, the selling point for that game is the replayability through its modding community.

What looks good about PoE is its amount of customization and similarity to other mmos. Many mmos have quite a bit of customization and grow through regular tweeks and updates. Being an online ftp game, it has a potential of being an ever evolving game, unlike a store bought one where you might get an expansion pack or two down the line.
