Is This Game Still Unplayable Due To Desync?

To answer the questions you were really asking:

No, nothing has changed between now and whenever the heck it was you were playing concerning Desync.

No, the devs absolutely won't do anything about it in the future.

If that bothers you, move on. I know it has caused me to pass on the game's "new amazing content" on occasion.
IGN: Ikimashouka, Tsukiyattekudasai, DontCallMeMrFroyo
Example of a recent desync death: (YouTube) Path of Exile - Bonestalker Reeeeep

If the game was unplayable due to desync when you left, then it'll be unplayable if you decide to play again. The severity of desync hasn't changed in any perceptible way since the days of open beta. If you want to be constantly frustrated, as illustrated in the above video, then by all means come on in!

I've been playing since open beta, and if I recall correctly there was a week or a few days where something was up with the servers and you had to /oos literally every five seconds or you would be massively desynced. Other than that I have never experienced the game where desync scewed the game to the point of unplayability. Ever. The good players get used to the desync and treat it as just another obstacle to adjust to and prepare for, so it's not really that much of an issue.

"Good" players. How condescending.

Perhaps it's because all of them play 8000-HP max-block tanks, have 0% movement speed, and spam /oos every 10 seconds. If I wanted to avoid desync, I too would build the same, boring, cookie cutter characters that all the streamers are playing, to overcome the "obstacle" of desync.

If desync doesn't kill characters outright, it definitely kills build diversity. In PoE, you simply can't play a glass-cannon character and rely on kiting with any sort of reliability. Because this oh-so-generous game seems to grant players with a free random-teleport skill every 5 fucking seconds.

It's funny to read this when the most popular build this league has been elemental buzzsaw. It has 50+ movement speed and relies on kiting to survive.

I hate desync and consider it PoE's biggest flaw but you can still kite quite effectively.

I experience desync all the time randomly and all over the place. But it doesn't make this game unplayable.

Popular =/= chosen for survivability

Most of these buzzsaw builds reside on Ambush/Standard where deaths don't really matter. People choose to go with these high attack speed ST builds usually because, well... they're fun.

These buzzsaw players still regularly die due to desync or careless positioning/scrambling that causes them to get stuck behind rocks/doorways. Look at Fyndel in this video attempting Atziri. He obviously doesnt care how many times he dies, as long as he kills Atziri. So it's reasonable to assume he also wouldn't care if he died to desync with this build.

Desync solution is to not play full contact character, getting unwarering stance...
In the video posted above the player was playing a typical "desync" built and managed himself to be in top conditions to get desync'd (much hits with much mobs, small indoor area...)

Yeah, fuck that guy right?

He decided to play a melee character (Reave) and was attacking a mob while occasionally running backwards. Fuck him for desyncing and dying. It's all his fault for being so stupid and choosing to play such a desync-prone build.

You're wrong,It's also very popular in HC leagues. It completely excels at mobility, allowing you to dodge any danger. It's one of the few builds I've made that has allowed me to solo even triple damage 78 maps or something like temporal double temple piety. It helps that lightning coil is amazing when you can reach 86 lightning res.

Why in the world would you link uber atziri by the way? Completely irrelevant when discussing how reliable a build is. That video actually works against you seeing how even the tankiest builds can't do her without relying on 95+ max res(or dodging all her moves somehow). Atziri is a great example of a boss where you're forced to dodge everything unless you have ridiculous max resistances.

Just no. People don't level beyond 93+ by dying.

Alea's a White Knight now?

Shit, they let anyone into this club these days.

I'm out.

Anyone want to join the newly formed Gray Knight club? Must have actual grey hair.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
