Builds feel ike spamming 1 or 2 buttons.

Maybe stop playing melee fighters. I play witch and I'm runing out of hotkeys, because I try to use different spells in different situations.
I was playing staves templar before and I agree, it was pretty boring. sweep sweep sweep sweep

Why is no one commenting on builds feeling like button spamming? I could deal with crap drops more easily if the combat was actually fun.

I enjoy Melee (and Ranged) combat as is especially when my build+gear is in harmony with the monster level. When my build+gear starts to struggle, it is more of a slog but one that is still challenging and therefore interesting.
There has to be a low point where some people stop complaining because it's just not worth it, and I have yet to see it. - Squeakypaw, 2013

I'm running out of buttons for all my skills =(

I have to put conversion trap on middle mouse and it totally sucks, sometimes doesn't work and sometimes I scroll in and mess up the view.

I can't wait until we can map to shift + click or extra mouse buttons. I would be really happy being able to scroll through skills on right click or something too.

I would come to the realization that when I have a skill on middle mouse button i disable zooming. Works wonders and you can still zoom with Page UP and Page DOWN.

First off, if you're only using one or two skills, even at low level, you're hamstringing yourself.

Oddly enough, I have the opposite complaint - that every build ends up using all the same tools. That is if you aren't using traps, totems, minions, weapons, and spells you're not playing to the build's full potential. Only difference between builds is where the emphasis is. Ok, I'm deliberately being a bit too simplistic, but I think my meaning here is clear.

In POE it's a fact that your ability to use an array of skills is constrained by both gear and gem drops. This is also true for the pace of combat. As you gain better equipment, with more mana, more survivability, and more attack speed, things rapidly accelerate. Characters at high level in this game are generally using a wide array of AOE skills, single target skills, curses, auras, traps and summons. The people at the top of the ladder are killing machines, and they got there using the same drop system you're playing with.

As for the quality of drops, there is a lot of randomness, but there are numerous avenues to self-upgrade. The game has a ton of different currency items in it that give players a chance to make amazing items from scratch. There are also very active trading forums, where you can probably find a lot of upgrades for a pretty reasonable cost.

There is a fine balance between giving players too little loot, and too much. If we overdo things on loot distribution, it severely diminishes the joy players feel when they find or craft something amazing. The consequence is that sometimes you go through long periods without an upgrade, but when that upgrade comes, it's really exciting.

Thank you for your feedback.

Frankly, the loot is too much. Every docks run at cruel drops averagely 5 rare items. I have found 7 different unique items in about 20 hours of game time. I know you cant possibly please everyone, but uniques at least should be RARE.
It reminds me a lot of the secret world. Its not that you literally have 1-2 buttons, its that you have 1-2 buttons for each task.

I'd be lying if I said i didn't have all the slots filled, but I'd also be lying if I said I use all of them frequently. Like on my ranger, i'm running ...

Lighting arrow
Frenzy
Fire arrow
Split arrow
Projectile weakness

Lightning arrow and split arrow are mostly interchangeable, and I only really use split for variety. Even against lightning resistant, lightning arrow does fine.

Fire arrow i'll only ever use over frenzy on a long boss fight where i'll actually go through all my mana flask charges, otherwise theres no difference.

Projectile weakness, like most curses is too tedious to recast on every single pack, so its mostly for bulky named.

TLDR: Lightning arrow spam!

My two cents:

I love playing tanks. I love being able to be a big hulking dude with obvious compensation issues. The only problem though, is that in most games, the tank only does one thing in combat, spamming normal attacks at melee range.

This game is different. Currently, with my level 35 marauder, I have several attacks that I use in different situations. I even make use of my weapon switch in combat.

This makes PoE FAR more enjoyable than other games of the genre to come out recently, or really ever.

I love this game, though I wouldn't object to adding even more skills, and maybe even a few new mechanics.
Bullshit, you get the game for free.

The drop rate is very low for gear.

I suggest getting +quality grey items and using orbs to convert them to rares. Who knows, you may actually get something you like.

Spoiler
Success is the ability to go from one failure to the next without any loss of enthusiasm.
My build actually needs more buttons... I use all of them and rehotkey the auras after I cast them. I have a total of 12 placable traps, a curse, and a spell totem. I am considering how to incorporate mines into the build if I bind my curse to left click and use the other hotkey for a new skill.

No offense, but Kripp (one of the popular streamers/youtubers incase you don't know) made the comment the other day that everyone who first tries this game makes a melee marauder (ground slam/sleep were popular before, now its lightning strike). I suppose Freeze Pulse Shadows are pretty popular as well. These kind of builds typically have 1 single target skill and 1 aoe skill (kripp's wand build is also like this). If you wanna stick with marauder I suggest trying a build with leapslam. It makes things much faster paced and is quite satisfying to use. I used leapslam to level up my totem character before speccing out the melee talents.

If you wanna have more variety there's plenty of interesting passives or builds to try. Try using totems/traps and mines, but its a lot more difficult, especially if you take the totem talent. You can get caught without any defense or totems setup and be quickly overwhelmed. Nevertheless it is very satisfying to pull off setting up a defense around yourself with tons of traps while the totems kill everything off.

Most builds end up using one or two main attack skills (e.g. one for bosses and one for AoE). But there's still a lot of active support you can throw in on top, like curses, totems, traps and so on, and the high-level builds generally do just that. There's also some skill in knowing when to drink flasks, which are like a kind of 'skill' you can only use occasionally.

I don't think the combat is any less varied in this game than in similar games of the genre, such as the Diablo or Torchlight series.
