Builds feel ike spamming 1 or 2 buttons.
To all the comments about D3 making us use more than two skills, if I'm not mistaken they accomplished this by imposing cool downs and the lack of ability to manage you resources through character development. Those who were rich enough to overcome their low resource pools with gear DID in fact spam some of the high cost low cool down skills (WW barb anyone?).
Not to mention I played a wizard and while you may say I was using all 6 skills available to me, 3 of them were auras, one was a hydra (summon) that could not die, one was my AOE that I could seldom use due to high mana cost and a single target. How is this different from POE? Well I'll tell you: I just recently made a build (shadow + sword + shield) who uses Whirling blades as an escape, frenzy+blood rage to build up frenzy charges along with flicker strike for insane single target dps (I also use viper strike on bosses cause, why not?), and cleave for tons of AOE. I also use enduring cry for extra resistances along with a few auras. If I really wanted I could throw in bear trap for more utility, but I honestly don't have the ability to be spamming all of these skills all the time (also not enough room on skill bar). Yes, I could have made a ground slam marauder if that was how I wanted to play the game, but I prefer the complexity that this game offers to those who try different things. I think your complaint does apply to the lack of wand attacks and claw attacks, however I believe this is something ggg will address in the coming months anyway. I'm not too worried, and I love this game for it's variety. |

" I'm the resident necromancer here Spud being the proud father of an army of 28 minions :D You want them to do a shit-ton of dmg?? You need to augment them with minion dmg gems, added crit dmg gems, added ele dmg gems, add minion life gems and rare loot find gems. Then you'll have an unstopable army with an unsatiable appetite to slaughter :D Some of your best spectres, in the beginning of the game, will be those annoying goat shamans that do fire dmg - they're hard to kill as they have a fire shield surrounding them. End of Act II beginning of Act III you should have Val construct spectres. And while you're fighting your way up the pyramid of pain lol! You should be making spectres out of those constructs as they deal really nice stupid chaos dmg. Just need to be creative with your minions and they'll protect you. Also, get as much ES as you can. I was doing end game with 600hps with an ES of close to 1700. But most of all have fun :) Oh, and you might also want to have 2-3 auras running - one for mana regain, which they nerfed :O one for shields and the 3rd's up to you; added ele dmg, added life on hit if you, like me, use a poison blade when they get too close and maybe some ethereal knives for a taste of aoe or whirling blades for extra splash fun :) The Pope quit, a meteor fell on Russia, an
asteroid came close to the earth, there's snow in Arizona, star wars and star trek have the same director! Who the hell is playing jumanji? | |
" Not sure if you mean merciless, but I'm in A3 Cruel and I only use leapslam. It does about 1200dps, allows me to get in and out of fights, and is AOE. Pot timing is the skill behind the spec. Really the only other ability I ever use (bosses only really) is Enduring Cry. |

" You guys are idiots. | |
One or two skills?
Then why is my skill bar always full and I have to put all my auras on a single key? |

the builds are spamming 1 or 2 buttons most of the time. you usually build your character around 1 or 2 skills the other stuff is like situation based. The fun in the game is what you make it, personally I've been playing the game since august and I'm still having fun.
on a different note if you really think about it most other games in the world that i can think about playing involve spamming one or 2 buttons all day long. |

I don't think what the OP is talking about is true for all the builds in the game, but a large number of builds follow this pattern early game, as well as some into the late game (stack auras plus spam one ranged skill). So to someone who's not familiar with the game it feels like the whole game is like that.
Not sure how you'd fix that though. Maybe add more early game skills with cooldowns? That way you can give them a significant benefit without making it overpowered, and adds to gameplay decisions since you need to plan when to use the skills. More skill slots to use these skills would be nice too... I'd love another row of hotkeys (ASDF). |
