Diablo 3 : real money auction house - confirmed
" 1. An antique is a physical thing that might be around for centuries... a game item is a virtual piece of code that will stick around for a few years or so. 2. That's life? No, we're playing games. If I wanted GTA to be life-like, I'd take my 38 and my 40, go out into the street and start shooting people and taking their cars. Then I'd knockdown a hooker and start beating her until dollar bills come pouring out of her. I don't want games to be like the real life, or even the other way around. I live near some hookers are you suggesting I do this instead of work for a new way to earn money? Hmmm GTA doesn't have an alignment system so hell yeah!
But the auction house is THE REASON FOR A DURABILITY SYSTEM! I love virtual brutality so save it for the Mobs...

Stop being naive. I know this isn't going to happen but someone has to say it.
When you get some more experience and think about the situation from a non-emotional standpoint you will realize there are many good and valid points that support the auction house's existence and few drawbacks. Blizzard has made several very strong arguments, but people just pretend not to read them. People talk like RMT wouldn't happen if there was no auction house. Reality check: It will happen anyways. People talk like this auction house will now let rich kids buy better items than someone who worked hard for it. Reality check: Rich kids have been doing this in every game ever. It isn't just starting now with the auction house, it's always been this way, it always will be. Stop crying about rich kids getting ahead of you when this auction house doesn't change a bloody thing. It will also be this way in PoE. Games don't exist in a damn vacuum, RMT will always come into play in every game where you can trade items (third party sites). People need to THINK about how this affects their minute to minute play experience. The answer is it doesn't. Who gives a damn if someone has bought better items than me. There's ALWAYS someone with better items than me, nothing has changed. I am still hacking away at monsters with the gear I found, I am still doing my own thing, what others do is inconsequential. I'll only interact with players for the space of one quest/game/party, after that I'll never see them again. Nothing. has. changed. 90% of the people discontent with the change have not bothered to read all the details to understand the situation fully, are actively ignoring the facts, are too biased (eg. Blizzard are capitalist pigs) to do any critical thinking, and/or are too immature to realize the true effect of the system. Here's one example of a fact people have ignored. "PVP is ruined because people will just buy items and stomp me.". The answer is no. Just no. There is a matchmaking system for PVP, you won't be put up against people the system doesn't think you're ready for. You will never be put up against some guy with uber gear that he bought. |

That sounded really non-emotional to me, I'm Sold... okay not really. Think about this like a politician and yeah it's okay, it's also okay to cheat on your wife do drugs then turn around and deny it in time for election season for family values...
However if you have a soul the correct answer is NO, this is the same answer Diablo 2 players faced from Blizzard, Blizzard just gave up under black market pressure when they could have shut down their servers and erased everyone's S#it and left the characters untouched... It sounds like a plan to me, don't F*ck with the system as it stands, I am fine if my equipment disappears because of this stuff, I can go get more anytime I play (note that only equipment that was traded should disappear). I had a friend that played WoW he sold some guy stuff he claimed he had, the guy bought the account turns out my now ex-friend (for several reasons... mostly woman issues) cheated the guy out of his money, it will happen to all who buy that is a fact of life, you will get screwed if you don't put in the work. You can't tell me that every item that is for sale exists, you can't tell me that because you have less time to spend on a hobby that you DESERVE to be at the same STAGE (Area, Level, Equipment Standard) that all of your friends who don't have jobs and only play games are at... in fact if you do have a job you ARE BETTER THAN THEM SO ACT LIKE IT, BE RESPONSIBLE. I love virtual brutality so save it for the Mobs...

It should be like the pokemon games, PLAYER ID assigned POKEMON, why? So if you don't respond to your Messages about the items and if they were traded fairly then they go back to the original player's mailbox... why not? Trade in-game only!

Of course it's inevitably going to happen. So is duping, botting, hacking, exploitation or any dishonorable method of character progression. That doesn't warrant making any of those a game feature.
Blizz could have been more proactive against the sales of items for $$, but they decided to make it mainstream and take profit from it instead. The difference is now it will be a lot more prevalent. As far as I'm concerned, it's the equivalent of including a hero editor with the game. It makes any hard time and effort legitimate players put in meaningless. <Dregs of Theopolis>

" Who cares if the thing being traded is tangible or not? That is in no way the point. Blizzard is facilitating the trade for you, they deserve a cut. And yes, money is a real life thing. Were not talking about the realism of game play here. Were talking about a real economy where things are traded for real money. If you don't want to use it, well don't use it. Try to get over what other people are doing, it's their choice. Blizzard isn't forcing you to do anything. Use the gold AH if you like. | |
Blizzard would be FORCING us to play on the same servers as the lame ass rich kids... I think there should be separate servers:
(Warning if you are FOR player to player cash transactions don't read any further, I don't want to hurt your wallet's emotions... this is JUST my opinion, that's right no one else can have it) Honorable: No actual currency trades. Weak B*tch: Yeah you can afford it but I don't want to play with you or be within the same ranking structure or anything to deal with the people in the WEAK B*TCH category... I love virtual brutality so save it for the Mobs...
