Diablo 3 : real money auction house - confirmed

it's still gonna rock. i'm glad they worked in their own system for it. it cripples the shady chinese gold/item sellers. there will be zero need to ever deal with them and YES, lots of players did whether it was allowed or not. also, blizzard will have a continual flow of income from which it allows them to keep funding the growth and moderation of the game. it's a win-win situation. i for one think they have a lot of balls to introduce this one into the game.

Or they just sold out against long standing beliefs. My only real problem is that players selling to players for real money doesn't make sense, this game will last a good 15-20 (or more) and you don't think you're going to find ANYTHING better by just running around? It seems pointless, I buy old school rpg books as my personal hobby and I learn stuff about my hobby when I spend the money, this is called an investment, but what happens when you buy a sword for $5 and find a better one after only 3 hours of play, that $5 sword is no longer worth $5 and no one would consider it for more than $0.50 now because most people have found better stuff by now, then you'd also have to hold on to it until you can post a free-be that is my main issue, it is anything but a long term investment.

GREED!!!!

People seem to forget that businesses are there to serve customers, not the other way around. In that regard, they should take better care at pleasing their existing customers. But when you're as big as Blizzard and you're going to sell millions of copies on a name alone, all that seems to go out the window for some reason - Greed.

In any case, I fail to see how selling games for 60 bucks a copy and having ~3 expansions planned at probably $40 each could leave them in a need for some cheap shot money making scheme to make a reasonable profit.

Because otherwise they will make their money off the copies they sell and move on to the next project. This way they will continually have a reason to update and moderate the experience. Yes, unfortunately it's not just a hobby for companies to make games, it's also business.

I for one do not think they'd work on their next project... they had 10 F*cking years to improve upon D2's ground work and what did they do... oh what did they do... *Is currently depressed*

I am officially giving up on diii.

The real money auction house creates serious perverse incentives. The very things that blizzard (poorly) fought in dii, botting, duping, etc., will now directly result in profits for blizzard.

Even if I don't play the game, however, I'm sure diii will still be fairly successful. I simply hope that other game makers do not see its success and think it has anything to do with the real money auction house.

Instead, hopefully PoE's ethical purchasing model will catch on. I really like the principle; it's one of the most attractive things to me about the game, especially now considering the closest competition.
Thread Lock Request... we've spent too much time on this crap guys, most of us have the opinion this is a bad thing. I am tired of reading it as it saddens me to think of what this means for the game I grew up loving.

The idea behind a real money auction house is great imo, there will be itemselling sites whether this AH exists or not, so I don't see all the whine about it.

The cut blizzard takes however is bullshit...

First the small cost to put an items into the AH which Blizzard takes whether the item gets sold or not.

An additional cut if the item is sold, maybe 1-5%

A third cut if you want to have the money transfered out of B.net, that's 3 cuts, and the last one using a thirdparty banking service sure as hell won't be cheap, atleast 5-10%, could be even more.

Funny they call this a fair way of getting items instead of going to shady websites, more like a legal, overpriced service for Blizzard to print more money.

There is absolutely no point in the RMAH due to the fact you have the potential to find ANYTHING in the game... It's a waste of money and if people want to cheat or get scammed they can use 3rd party identity theft rampant sites, no cheating.

Once again Thread lock request.
