Are the Devs still making the game they want to play?
" There is absolutely no problem with PA. I like it, many like it, and even if you dont, you cannot expect to change something that will make this game less enjoyable for me and everyone who prefers PA over ninja looting aka SA or invincible ninja looting aka FFA. |

Well OP if you are not happy, make your own ffa party. Plently of people prefer not having to get their loot sniped by a ninja that doesnt contribute shit to the party only to loot or melee players that are closer to the loot dropping.

"I call this the Green Eggs and Ham fallacy. Unless you know exactly how a change will play out, it's possibly erroneous of you to assume the change will make the game less enjoyable. I mean, in some cases it's pretty easy to tell; if all I did was say "SA is now mandatory in public parties" then you'd have a pretty good idea how it would effect your enjoyment of the game, based on previous experience with SA mode. In other words, if what is being proposed is not actually new, but instead just a reversion to the old, then yes, you obviously are qualified to estimate whether or not you'd enjoy it or not. However, let's say we mandated a form of FFA with some kind of inescapable PvP method to retrieve your items back from ninjas if they'd been originally allocated to you (along with anything else they're carrying but not wearing), and that this PvP mode could only be initiated by the one who was stolen from. Perhaps you currently hate PvP, so your initial reaction was that you'd hate it. But then it somehow gets implemented anyway, and you find two things you hadn't anticipated: 1, that you actually win a few PvP matches against ninjas who were "bluffing" — that is, counting on you to be too scared to challenge them — but by whim you fought them anyway and kicked their asses, and it made you feel kind of badass cool for a while; and 2, that a lot of potential ninjas themselves were scared, and thus the amount of item "theft" was much less than you originally imagined. I'm not necessarily saying you'd be in love, you might just not care... and you actually still might hate it... but you need to admit that it would be difficult to predict exactly how you felt until you actually tried it. That said, nothing in this post explains why reintroducing loot tension to the game would be a good thing; this entire post has been about explaining how prejudicing yourself categorically against loot tension is a bad thing. Arguments against the idea which are not based in prejudice, or are not categorical (that is, specifically against a particular implementation of loot tension), may still be valid. Also potentially relevant to the topic, this thread I just created in Suggestions:

Not saying we are all usually competing with bots but... I hated when everyone else beat me to looting Baal in Diablo 2...which was usually done by bots but still.
T_T I think there is a good way to do FFA loot, but not in random groups. Ranged usually get shafted out of the loot for obvious reasons. Unless there is a 2-3 seconds interval between any loot being looted after enemies in a certain radius are eradicated, providing ample time to loot, while providing that loot tension between the players. I love pie.

" Mmhh, there is a nice argument which i´ve seen in different threads about a SFL. There´s is no need for a FFA-League because there is just a handfull of players who would play it. It´s just a niche in a nichegame. Last edited by free_at_last#6839 on May 10, 2014, 12:47:19 AM

FFA league would fracture the player base and can be accomplished in the current leagues already. :)

In my view this "item tension" YOU're so centered on with this post, is completely fixed in PoE. The game enables players to have the CHOICE.

"I wouldn't. I do, however, appreciate the fact that you're consistent; whether you would have any interesting in it or not, you want to add as many unnecessary leagues and player-fracturing features to the game as possible. We actually use PA for a completely different reason: Everyone in my guild is too polite and if something uber dropped on FFA/SA, we'd all stand around trying to not be the asshole and a Shav's would totally go to waste.
