Offer 1 alch + 1 scour: "Sorry, I prefer chaos"

"
I can't speak for the OP but I myself understand all of that, does not mean I have to agree with it. Just like I don't agree with the practices of the Federal Reserve of The United States or fractional reserve banking, I think those policies are dumb as fuck too.

You do not need to agree with what is going on, but the OP was asking for a rationale why Chaos orbs are valued more than Alch+Scour combinations. The rationale I and many other posters provided (and which I firmly believe is correct) is that Chaos orbs are used as currency in PoE, which is not the case for Alch+Scours.

You don't have to agree that we use (fiat) money in real life in order to understand why everybody accepts (fiat) money as means of payment. The reason why everybody accepts our money (which has no intrinsic value whatsoever) is because everybody else accepts the money too. That's the equilibrium we are in. As an individual trader, you cannot break this equilibrium.

I value money more than other goods when I'm being paid because this is true for the majority of people in the economy. I can use my (intrinsically worthless) money to buy other stuff. I don't want you to pay me in other goods, even if they are worth slightly more than pure money. Instead of 1500 chocolate bars worth 1$, I'd much rather take 1000$ directly.
the analysis would make more sense if alchs and scours were like chocolate bars, but they are not. also if chaos orbs are fiat...and they are not.

the correct way of viewing it is that all orbs are commodities. the backbone of the economy is mapping, and the backbone of mapping is rolling maps. the backbone of rolling maps is chaos orbs.

chaos orbs are the most dense, fastest way to do it, and the economy "knows this"

scours/alchs have a number of disadvantages. they take up more space, and you have to keep them in even quantities to get the same result. it even takes more time to apply them.

chaos orbs are like the crude oil of PoE.

they didn't become a staple trade item because of some ethereal fiat power of currency like the dollar. they became a staple commodity because they are used that much.

We had this thread a couple of days ago... Chaos are worth more as a currency. The effect doesn't matter to most people, they use chaos to buy stuff and not to craft.

Yeah thats why I get massive currency by trading my chaos for 3 scourning, transforming them into regrets and selling those for one chaos sometimes for more.

Chaos are worth two scourning because regrets are worth one chaos
