Offer 1 alch + 1 scour: "Sorry, I prefer chaos"

Yeah, another "What the hell, traders?!" rant thread.

What's the deal with people listing chaos buyouts on items and refusing to accept alch+scours? It can't just be about stash space (first-world problem: I'm running out of stash space to hold the massive amount of currency I own!). Is the perceived value and actual value so disparate that the first thing people worry about is "oh no, the exchange rate website lists alchs and scours are 2.5:1 chaos, this is clearly not a deal in my favor!"?

There is a stash problem, you can easily fill up the lower orbs without saving much, and it doesn't amount to much either.

Also the crafting in this game is broke, so many orbs are quite useless and no accepted as currency depending on which league you are in.

Hmm, I'd prefer alch / scour for flexibility. Tbh, I think people are just lazy or scared of being scammed.

They have the same impact when used, but they do not have the same value. Alc's often sell 2.5 per chaos and Scours 2:1 - making the combination worth less than 1 chaos. Plus, if someone did want chaos it forces them into some minimal effort to sell.

Logically? Yeah, alch + scour = chaos. But logic is thrown out the window when you talk about players. The difference in space required is actually quite minimal given scours stacking to 30, and you can turn blues/uniques into whites for alching rather than having to start with a rare for chaos, so it is technically a more useful combination. But no, sense need not be made.

Your mistake: assuming that the guy you're trading with is using the orbs for crafting. While it may perform the same thing (and can do more stuff), alch+scour is less liquid than chaos.

If it's the same, why don't you convert them to chaos before shopping? Converting them to a "fluid" currency that everyone accepts costs time, and that is also why scour/alch has a lower value. Time has a value.

Not to mention that you might not actually get a chaos for an alch and a scouring.

So you have time to rant on forum but not enough time to excahnge alc+sco to the chaos? Clearly you are sooooooo right.

Btw, tried to offer transmutations or may be even id srolls as currency? Its essentially THE SAME!

What puzzles me is why people sell scourings 2:1 chaos when they can get a regret for that which sells for 2C.

The value of ANYTHING is influenced by perception.
Limited human minds often cannot objectively analyze anything correctly. In this TV educated culture, the majority do not even have the mental tools to attempt such things, they simply conform and accept the majority viewpoint(unless it negatively impacts themselves).

If you skim through the forums you can see dozens, hundreds, thousands of examples of faulty logic and blind replies accepting it as truth. There are methods which can be used to prove truth or falsehood. And methods which can be used to correctly gather data and abstract it to a more useful form in order to solve a particular query in an objective way. Logic is the most basic foundation of thought and reason, and fewer and fewer people seem to have even a rudimentary grasp of it.

What is the point of communication if there is no underlying intelligence to it? What kind of world will the future have in store for us when the human race can no longer even distinguish between what is correct and what is wrong?

And then all of these combined with the fact that some people deliberately spread lies and apply logic fallacies in order to manipulate you and the world. Be it for gain, or for mere malice. It equates to a virtual cesspool of disease laying in wait.

I have little hope for our world as a whole. And can only hope that some small portion of the best amongst us will escape before our inevitable self destruction.
