The community is horrible
Wow, reading this post has got me wondering what the game community is going to be like. I am new, downloading the client right now and decided to read the forums. I use to play D1, then D2, Guild Wars, WoW, then D3. D3 is utter garbage, someone told me about this game and said I should try it because I am an old school player.
I left WoW after having to deal with the rude teenage ragers and fanboys. I hope this community is not like that. I am an old dude and I just can't stomach things like I use to. I hope this game is what I have been looking for the last 10 years. |

" Well I personally don't agree with this. This community is one of the most abrasive I've seen fior a while. As noted suggesting anything remotely "casual" is usually responsed to with much swearing and a LOT of personal abuse. It is rather ridiculous. So many backward-looking people trying to avoid progress is the feeling I get. Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress.

CB community wasn't that great either..difference was..these who they were arguing against (there were hot topics in closed beta too)..they just left beta test.. Basically most offensive posters here are either "Veterans" or "alpha tester"...it's s amusing as hell sometimes..especially when they start saying how awesome CB community was... no..it wasn't.

As a newcomer I have been getting this feeling as well. I am quite a forumist myself, generally, speaking, with thousands of posts written in most communities I take part of. Now, EVE Online community was very political, with people taking sides and flinging poo at each other, based on which side they took. World of Tanks community was full of people flinging poo at the game itself and whining about pretty much any game mechanic piece there is. Interestingly, there were too few game defenders.
Now here... there are mainly two large sides in an almost-open warfare clash. On one side, there's the pre-Open Beta veteran community, who thinks the game is perfect and fiercely fight off any complaint. On the other side, there's the newcomer hoard, who expect some things from the game and keep asking for them. These two groups fight endlessly, with the veterans being most aggressive. While I understand both sides pretty well (I've been on each side of the fence myself in other forums), my online gaming and community experience tells me the following: - If you see a requirement popping up every single day, many times a day, that means the object of the complaints DOES have a problem. Soon enough, the hardcore veteran community will be (if it hasn't been already) surpassed in numbers by the newcomer community. From a democratic perspective, the demands of the few will become the demands of the many, and the game owners will have to make a choice: take the chance to alienate most of their user base (the bigger newcomer horde) and keep the hardcore veterans around, or change that game mechanic/feature/specification and risk alienating a small part of the veterans. I say a small part because veterans will continue to play the game by large, simply because they have invested too much to be driven away by a change (unless it's HUGE). - As game owner(s) (company who owns the game), you have two choices: either make compromises and thus increase your user base (make the game appealing to the many), risking to turn the game into something you no longer like yourselves, OR stay true to your ideas, design and beliefs, and risk minimizing your profits, not develop the game any further, and turn it into a static, small "yet-another-tiny-spot-in-MMO-World" game. " I don't know what "Ffa loot" means, so I won't comment on that, but: * Server crash: of course people will complain. Would you just ignore 2-minute power outages happening to you every 15 minutes while you watch your favorite TV show? people flock to forums, complain, whine, cuss, swear, howl, rage, go into frenzies, withdrawal symptoms, the whole 9 yards. Last night I got disconnected every time I was browsing my stash, it happened at least 6 times, two of them while I had a portal active to a distant area with no waypoints, during quests. It was NOT funny. Of course, I didn't complain, just postponed my target date for purchasing points by a month and switched to World of Tanks, which does NOT crash. To me, it was simple as a choice. To many others, it's infuriating. * Full respec is a hot topic, and people will ask for this endlessly. When you are new to the game and see 1300+ skills to theoretically choose from, it's overwhelming. While a veteran has little-to-no problems identifying what's best for him, a newcomer will almost guaranteed make quite a few bad choices on the way. Sure, Orbs of Regret and limited respec points (the few you get) can alleviate the problem, but not by much. We live in times when people hate it when they can't start over without losing tens of hours of investment. I messed up my first build myself (not by much but still) and was strongly tempted to just abandon the game completely. As a man who sank 300+ EUR in EVE Online and close to 600 EUR in World of Tanks (don't tell my wife, for fuck's sake!), quitting PoE completely would mean turning away a pretty prospective customer. Luckily, I was not THAT advanced with my Marauder so I started over with a duelist. But you get my point. * Game too hard - this is something I definitely don't agree with. It's nowhere near hard, it's actually pretty easy, at least in Normal league. But there's always more casual players, and even while I don't agree with them, if I were part of GGG I would consider looking at a possible "casual" league to keep my user base large and diversified. Bottom line is... any feedback is worth considering if it pops up often enough. And please, for the sake of it, people... lighten up :) |

The real original community is awesome. Helpful and intelligent. The new one? Meh.

I'm pretty sure the community that is here now is just as real as the community that existed before open beta. Maybe we are robots with a good AI system.

" Slander / Insults is never acceptable. I did find this kind of funny though, because any of us (and theres alot been here longer than me) that have ben here for any amount of time, have come to realise that GGG is pretty transparent in what they are going to do. They communicate and plan ahead, informing the community of changes to come before they do, usually. Thats all. GGG - Why you no?

Here's the problem with the community:
There is a group of people who love the game, as GGG designed it, and while they accept minor tweaks and balance adjustments, do not want GGG's vision to be sacrificed at the altar of mass consumption. There is another group of people who refuse to adapt to the game and want it changed to suit their preferences. The former group generally tells the latter to piss up a rope.
