Because then the fracturing of the playerbase is legitimized and then the requests for further innocuous seeming tweaks with huge ramifications come pouring in.

So you want the game to remains just as it is in this moment, without any tweaks whatsoever ? Because there could be huge ramifications otherwise. And fracturing the player base because some like to play with 10 s timers and some without any timer in an allready majorly instanced game is not a big deal to me.

Id also like for an creator of the group option to cap how many players can join him. Would that also be a problem ?

I don't understand what is stopping you from making your own party, dictating rules, and enforcing them.

Having an option to restrict the number of people in the party doesn't alter the loot system, or the gameplay in any appreciable way, and might be a nice option to see in the future. Having timer options does significantly alter the gameplay.

Giving option to expand the loot timer alters the gameplay in same amount giving option to restrict number of players in the group - none at all.

You could fracture the playerbase by giving option for how many players can be in a group. Some want to play with maximum players, some with 2 or 3 - There, fractioned.

The risk here isn't keeping the community small, the risk is watering down the game for mass consumption and pleasing no one. GGG have stated repeatedly that the game is designed for the hardcore ARPG fan, and that they will resist watering it down just to make it more accessible.

If they can afford it, then good for them. I praise them for being able to hold to their vision without making compromises, but in this very, VERY competitive gaming world I have my fears that it's not an easy task, not at all.
Time shall tell.

And thank you for providing a great response, I appreciate constructive discussions. Keep up the good work!

Sehr geehrte deutsche Community,

Channel: Path of Exile (10 Channels vorhanden)

Wichtig! TS3 ist Pflicht.

Zu uns:
Wir sind ein deutschsprachiger Multigamingclan und sind in Spielen wie The WarZ oder World of Tanks vertreten. Wir sind ca. 100 Mann stark. Auch hier seit ihr herzlich willkommen.

Zu Path of Exile:

- Speed Leveling

Here's a smattering of quotes just from this thread, though they permeate a good portion of the forum:

"The community was great in closed beta before you whiners came in, whining. :P"

"Was pretty good during CB, bad right now with all the new players. wait a while they will give up and move on soon"

"it was nice... until open beta."

"The community then in CB was fine, what you have now is all these OB hipsters coming from D3 who think they look cool by telling everyone with any criticism or question to 'go back to D3' honestly its rare for that not to be said at least once in at least every non positive thread"

"Now all the d3 fanboys and nolifers, flamer etc joined the community and the community pretty much sux. Thats how it always goes after CB"

"The real original community is awesome. Helpful and intelligent. The new one? Meh."

This is the biggest issue with the community. Regardless of your views on the game and its mechanics, there exists this awful mindset from some that only CB people deserve opinions, and anyone who wasn't part of that elite group is a worthless piece of shit with no right to say anything, legitimate or otherwise. I like the game how it is, for what it's worth, but I didn't hear anything about it until the night before OB started, so no matter how much I would like to support GGG or how much money I throw into the shop, I will never have a Supporter tag, and remain a second class citizen.

I agree that all these repeated threads whining about things that really shouldn't be changed are annoying, but for the sake of building the community past CB folks, don't turn this into CB vs. OB. Reading some of these replies makes me wonder if y'all wouldn't rather it be closed off except to the select few forever. Piss poor way to keep the game strong. Rather, guide new players into the mindset necessary to thrive in the game and the community, without sacrificing the game's ideals, and the experience will be much enriched.

On a more general note, it happens in any CB-to-OB milestone. Any formerly closed community will have a sense of entitlement. Hell, exactly two years after World of Tanks went OB, there are still CB players who say it was better "back then".

So far, the worst thing about this great game is the community. Seems like some people have an almost religious-like zeal for this game. The same thing happened in the Runic forums (developers of Torchlight), where if you criticize the game in any way or suggest any idea, you get bombarded with messages from self-righteous, arrogant people who think they know what GGG are thinking and planing. The only feedback that seems to be accepted by the community is "OMG best game evarrrrrrrr!!111" and even the mildest forms of criticism are vigorously assaulted, telling the person who made the criticism to "go back to D3" is very common, like that's a big insult...
If you guys think anything good can come out of endless admiration and a vacuum of criticism, then I've got bad news for you.

So uh, what was your criticism?
It's the internet, you expect everyone to be nice?
Didn't read the thread or OP, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say this kid is mad about 1 of the following:

1. He made a "someone stole my loot" or "just died to server crash on HC at level 11 and I'm mad" thread...and he got flamed.

2. Doesn't understand the difference between consteuctive critism and whining.

3. Discovered the internet yesterday.

Can anyone c/d?
As someone who sees a LOT of feedback threads, and has since March last year, I don't quite understand why people have the impression that critical feedback isn't welcome here. Certainly, we have topics that are basically being beaten to death and are for now not worth discussing (GGG has read the feedback and it's up to them what happens next, if anything), but not once have I see a good suggestion or piece of feedback get universally denigrated by all responses.

As usual, being a community moderator I feel a certain pang when someone makes such a blunt statement as 'The community is horrible'. Do I agree that we have quite a number of posters who probably shouldn't post? I certainly do. Do I agree that they constitute a sufficient portion of the community to warrant the statement 'The Community is Horrible'? I certainly do not.

I have seen other online communities, and I have avoided them like a plague that didn't know how to spell or form a coherent argument (the worst kind of plague, I believe). The ONLY reason I accepted the role of community moderator here was because the community ISN'T horrible. I can step down at any point but for as long as I feel this community isn't horrible, I shall not.

I'm deeply sorry for your experiences, OP, but I cannot let a statement like "The Community is Horrible" sit without measured rebuke and disagreement.

I suppose it's like any society, though. Good apples, bad apples. If you don't want to turn into a complete misanthrope, you associate yourself with people you like/respect and disregard the ones you don't.

We moderators do our best to minimise the impact of said rotten fruit, but it's not always easy.

The community isn't horrible -- it's just had such a high standard in Closed Beta that now it's resembling a more likely gaming community, the spikes in fanboyism and anti-fanboyism are much, much more noticeable.

Thank you for your post, OP, but there are better ways to go about reacting to a community if you feel it's horrible. My favourite is 'be a not-horrible community member and see what happens.'
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
