The community is horrible
So far, the worst thing about this great game is the community. Seems like some people have an almost religious-like zeal for this game. The same thing happened in the Runic forums (developers of Torchlight), where if you criticize the game in any way or suggest any idea, you get bombarded with messages from self-righteous, arrogant people who think they know what GGG are thinking and planing. The only feedback that seems to be accepted by the community is "OMG best game evarrrrrrrr!!111" and even the mildest forms of criticism are vigorously assaulted, telling the person who made the criticism to "go back to D3" is very common, like that's a big insult...
If you guys think anything good can come out of endless admiration and a vacuum of criticism, then I've got bad news for you. |

I'm going to have to at least partially agree; I've seen completely legitimate concerns from new players shot down because people think that they're criticizing the game when the person is actually asking for an explanation of why x game system is in place or something. On the other hand, a lot of the community is pretty decent as well; some people just have an infinite patience with global chat, there are a lot of people willing to help out newer players and are generally extremely constructive within the community. I suppose there's always going to be a variety in the people within a community, it's not like everyone in here has exactly the same mindset.

What Dudebag said is true.
The community accepts all kind of feedback and suggestions. It's just that with OB, half the posts here now are: "I don't want anybody to take my loot", "Dangit server crashed", "I want to change my tree, plllz" and it's too hard (together with "Why did I get muted") The game was perfectly fine for most people in closed beta, we would discuss issues, GGG would look at them/respond to them and so on. Now, all those people come in who have some kind of different image of what a game should be like (ie not old-school kind of game), which here a lot of people disagree with. This would even be fine, I tell you. If one person (ONE) wrote: hey, what about loot/full respec and so on, people would respond to it, talk about it, eventually everybody would get that this is not an option (because it would be stupid to do certain stuff and most of the older gamers would hate to see the changes, including GGG) and it would be done. Now we have, idk, 50, 100 topics on loot, respec, server crashes? What should we do, be polite to everybody and copy paste our answers? There have been changes made because players did not like the way something was, and this will still happen, However, if most of the "older" (in age and in experience in this game) do not want this, it's just unlikely to happen. And if nobody wants to believe this and 100 threads have to be opened for new players to understand this, we get annoyed, it's that simple. |

I'm sorry that you've had such a bad experience with the community so far. Actually, the awesome community was what I loved when I was playing this game more during CB.
I'm guessing that one problem you're hitting is timing. There is a very strong community of players here from Closed Beta who are just now seeing their baby of a game grow up into something that is no longer just for a niche audience, but for everyone. Likely, a lot of these players are nervous that GGG is going to "cater to casuals", which is, frankly, inevitable, and they don't want to see the massive amount of changes that could potentially come to the game they've grown to love. Admittedly, one of the things that keeps me in this game is that it will be changing massively over the next several years (as long as income keeps coming it) so I'm not as stuck up about that. There are other reasons why you might be hitting the bad groups as well: not playing at the right times or in Hardcore or on harder difficulties, or just that you happened to ask some questions that the people who were online at that time had heard a bajillion times already. It would be unfortunate if those were the case. I hope you do find the better people here, because they are *definitely* there! :) Alteration Orb Union Local #7

This is just how the internet is these days, it has nothing to do with this community specifically.

" If only GGG would stop harassing me o.O I keep helping people in global chat whenever I can. But I got muted for 1 houre on 2 different accounts allready when I was just helping out by answering questions. I don't know what's up with that..but it's annoying as F* when ppl then ask questions that nobody is answering and I can't because I'm muted for no reasson lol. On topic: I agree that there are some terrible fanboys in the community. But I think i'm a fanboy myself as well. But I'm a realistic one. I also accept peoples opinions about things and try to look at it from their perspective. Where not all bad :p Just the select few that keep standing out and keep biting you in the ass like a pitbull Good thing you brought this topic up. I hope GGG gets a few more mods to look over this situation in global chat. They can also fix the foreign languages in the global chat as well then... that's becoming annoying as hell ... russians and polish people seem to be the worst (not all of them of course). |
