The community is horrible
" Really a mod just needs to pick a thread about each of these topics amd sticky them and lock any others. That way those who want to argue about it fan amd the rest of us don't have to feel like we are bombarded with the sake old crap day after day. |

" Actually Haderechi, that's not entirely true. First off, the majority of ppl here are closed beta or alpha peeps, me included. We all know each other so are used to the "vitriol" tossed about - but it's not 100% serious :o Just need to get some thick skin, a stiff upper lip and the ability to brush it off. If you're going to criticize this game, it had better be for a damm good reason and not just to troll or create drama. We are ALWAYS taking suggestions. If you give examples of what gripes you, I'm sure you'll get a reasonable answer - the group here is slightly aggressive ;) but not unreasonable. Also, to answer your comment on people constantly saying: " Can you actually blame them??? With all the shit that the big gaming corporations have been crapping out their asses today creating one disappointment after another, people are genuinely happy and excited to FINALLY have found a game that's not: 1) A total piece of garbage 2) Lives up to our gaming standards 3) Not dicked over for a sub then told to screw off by the devs Me, I'm the resident "Bitcher." But when I criticize GGG, I do so out of what I feel is a lack of equality. Last time I created a stink was with the MT issue of using the chants one time and having to purchase that dumb ass thing to remove them. Yep, got up on my soap-box, started one of my tirades from hell and then a while later it was announced it was "fixed" and that this would not be the case. Mind you though, I've been here a while and imho, GGG is probably one of the best gaming companies out there today putting out a great product. Why I really like and respect this game? 1) It's not some half-assed piece of shit 2) The game is fair - no P2W just P2LC (Pay to Look Cool) 3) Mechanics are great - I can be a hammer wielding, fireball casting raise the dead toon :o 4) The devs are in the game and actually care about what you have to say. They talk to you and want to know your views on the game - when the fuck was the last time you saw this happen. Sure Trion did it in the beginning but after SL, they slinked back into their holes, ignoring the community, for the most part, and now partnered up with XL Games for the new "sandbox" game that supposed to come out soon. 5) The patches and issues are dealt with ALMOST INSTANTLY. This is a game breaker for me. That's why SWTOR is in the shitter now - devs don't give a fuck and there are bugs still in the game since beta :o 6) And contrary to what some may think, the community in this game is way better than many other games. Although the EQ2 group are fantastic as well but then again, they've been there since the beginning of the world lmao! The Pope quit, a meteor fell on Russia, an
asteroid came close to the earth, there's snow in Arizona, star wars and star trek have the same director! Who the hell is playing jumanji? | |
Well I agree that myopia is a bad thing however consider the following:
1. Many people here have a lot of passion for PoE. They are going to take criticism of the game personally. That is silly but it is human nature. 2. I count myself in this group: Many are more than willing to forgive flaws because of the honesty positive tone and ethics of the developer. GGG has a lot more social capital with its fans than say Blizzard might. Runic is another example of a company inspiring great fan loyalty through their actions as a company as much as the quality of their products. This does not mean I think the game is perfect but I am much more trusting of GGG to make it all work out eventually. 3. PoE does things because that is the game GGG wants to make. They want FFA loot. They want complexity. They want to see what players do given a challenge and such a wide array of tools. They want their game to be free. You get the idea. None of these ideas are negotiable. I wish certain things were different (like I wish I could play SP offline) but that is not what they want to provide. I find that intriguing. I am willing to step out of my comfort zone and try it. PoE is not about mass appeal it is about a vision of A very particular game someone wanted to make, amazing in a market full of me too developers. Now my point is not that the game is polished or done. But attacking core systems like the loot system or the skills gem system as I so often see really are pointless discussions. Rather at this point suggesting tweaks or perhaps custom options for paid leagues are better avenues of discussion. Maybe an instanced loot league is a viable idea, but making that the default setup is not going to happen. Last edited by LunacyPolish#0363 on Jan 30, 2013, 9:51:43 AM

" You don't actually have to open the thread though since it's usually pretty obvious from the title what it's about. |

I think "zealous" is a good word. I mean, I get that certain topics are old, but when you lose your ability to reply in a calm and cohesive manner, it's time to stop posting.
The main issue is that absolutely all feedback pertaining to the game itself gets the same reply as if the post only contained the words "GAME TOO HARRRD". The community takes it upon itself to judge feedback. That's not a good thing. |

I like POE I played CB, had some issues I still dont think are resolved but overall its a good game. The community then in CB was fine, what you have now is all these OB hipsters coming from D3 who think they look cool by telling everyone with any criticism or question to 'go back to D3' honestly its rare for that not to be said at least once in at least every non positive thread.
It flies in the face of the idea that this game is for mature players (they act anything except mature) and mark my words left unchecked for to long will just get the game and community a bad name which wont be good for anyone, least of all GGG. I saw it in Darkfall (another supposed hardcore game for true gamers) and its happening again here, albeit less pronounced. The difference there is they have sub fees so can survive on a small niche player base, I wonder can GGG do the same when its just 100k hipsters left telling anyone new to 'go back to D3' ?? Overstating? Maybe so, but Ive seen a turn for the worse in this last week from what I experience in CB, I said this would happen in another forum when discussing POE and it seems to be coming true. |

The community gets angry when people want's to fundamentally change the game, for the "better" to cater to mass audiences. Unfortunately many people here wants the complete opposite game than the one that caters to the mass audiences.
I mean look at any sort of "niche difficult" game like Dark Souls, and you would find the same kinds of discussions. |

" The problem arises when people come into these forums fresh-faced and genuinely curious; blue-eyed and innocent, and immediately get "GO BACK TO D3 NOOB!" thrown in their face. At the moment, this community is about as easy to penetrate and like as the League of Legends community at times. |

" Wow, that sucks. What's up with that? |

Now all the d3 fanboys and nolifers, flamer etc joined the community and the community pretty much sux. Thats how it always goes after CB. Deal with it, wont change. 7777777777777777777777777777777777777777
