The community is horrible

I mean look at any sort of "niche difficult" game like Dark Souls, and you would find the same kinds of discussions.

That doesnt ring true at all. People think the posters want that, often if you actually read those posts they want nothing of the sort.

For example a discussion about loot rules, It was suggested that the party leader setting loot rules would be a better system all round and would please more people (cant please everyone of course) and in that thread 3 times people have said 'go back to D3' at no stage did those discussing it say D3 was better, that they want POE made easier, indeed the system in question has nothing to do with difficulty at all. Even if GGG think the system is fine thats cool but why a discussion had to turn so sour so quickly is beyond me, the responses from certain 'fans' are totally disproportionate to the posts in question and actually often breed flame wars that end in people being totally turned away from what is a great game.

And for the record I think that system (loot) atm is largely dictated by server load not having the capacity to remember whos drops are whos for to long. I think in time that system will change, as did MANY things during CB. If everytime a change happened we all threw our toys away and screamed at each other OB would never have arrived.

The problem arises when people come into these forums fresh-faced and genuinely curious; blue-eyed and innocent, and immediately get "GO BACK TO D3 NOOB!" thrown in their face. At the moment, this community is about as easy to penetrate and like as the League of Legends community at times.

This was never a problem with the fresh-faced, genuinely curious, blue-eyed and innocent players who came in when POE was in closed beta... back then there was even more to complain about but no-one complained at all, especially when it came to core game mechanics or micro-transaction pricing.

The thing is, alot of these suggestions are basically inspired by D3. When players demand respecs or individual loot... that is D3 mechanics that have no place in POE. It's usually in these threads that people get the "go back to D3" responses.

When these innocent noobs ask questions like "how to build a character", "what's wrong with my build" or "where are the pants", they dont get the "go back to D3" response.
Actually, I played in the closed beta a bit and I'm mostly fine with the game, it's just sad to see the community of a complex game devolve into something resembling the LOL community, where the main forums resemble a 3rd grade recess session in average IQ and quality of discussion.

You forgot to add "Now Fuck Off"

XD

I think much (not all) of the problem arises when people argue to turn this into something WoW-esque, or (Gasp) D3 (The other WoW). Or - when they simply can't comprehend the words 'Open BETA' to mean anything other than "It's perfect come and play".

I don't see people getting that pit-bull stance immediately, it's after a few pages of arguments why they should have things their way - which is usually preceded by the words "I'm casual and so...". Then - Yes, people get testy, and blunt.
In other games - you get a cookie whether you win or lose. PoE not only takes your cookie and eats it in front of you, it slaps you upside the head a few times for bringing a cookie in the first place.
In game people are fine, on the forums it is completely different where there is a distinct 'class' system due to the supporter tags. I find the majority of supporters to be condescending and dismissive, that being said I have spoke to a few decent one's who 'get it'.
Nothing new here sadly.
Just play with your friends, enjoy the game while you do, and forget about this community.
Maybe people will stop saying "go back to D3" if too much people leave the game...

It reminds me of HoN vs LoL...

Eh, I think the community is actually relatively quite good, from what I've seen. Sections of it are just also rather zealous, but that seems to be a bafflingly frequent occurrence when it comes to games. I don't know how people manage to work up such anger due to people having differing opinions. I quite like Diablo 3, which makes me feel like a bit of a pariah. I'm also in favour of more readily available re-specs, which also seems to be an amazingly heated topic. It's just a design choice, it's not the profound moral question that some people seem to want it to be.

Seems like some people have an almost religious-like zeal for this game. The same thing happened in the Runic forums (developers of Torchlight), where if you criticize the game in any way or suggest any idea, you get bombarded with messages from self-righteous, arrogant people who think they know what GGG are thinking and planing. The only feedback that seems to be accepted by the community is "OMG best game evarrrrrrrr!!111" and even the mildest forms of criticism are vigorously assaulted, telling the person who made the criticism to "go back to D3" is very common, like that's a big insult...
If you guys think anything good can come out of endless admiration and a vacuum of criticism, then I've got bad news for you.

This is mostly why I have global chat perma disabled - the diehard PoE fanboys are genuinely more damaging to this community than their D3 counterparts, imo.

It's no baffling at all. People dont want something they enjoy to be fundamentally changed in any way. This applies to many things outside of just video games.
Leave world chat and it is great, after we get the people who just here for the hype turn back to their old games because they not liked it it be great

true, it got it flaws (and I am one of the ffa-haters but I just ,solo in protest to group :P)
