If you buy the $5 pack?

What do you do with the 6 leftover points? Same thing with the the $10, $50 and $100 packs. All these packs give you left over points that you can't use to buy anything atm, and probably never will.

Would be better if the discount was in pricing instead of giving you extra points that you can't use, cause nothing costs less than 10 points.
Yeah, this irritates me too.

Basically they are trying to nudge you into purchasing more than what you want to spend.

For example, I wanted the red frog with the crown. He costs 50 points, so it should be a fiver right? Nope. $5 only nets you 46 points, so you need to purchase the next up at $10!

Well for $10 I would rather have that shiny basilisk! He is only 100 points, so my $10 should cover it right?

Nope, $10 only nets you 96 points! So if you want the basilisk you need to either grab a $20 pack or a $10 + $5 packs.

The $20 nets you an even 200, so you can actually buy something with it. Buying $15 will net you with 132 points. So essentially if you buy anything less than $20 your money is being wasted on points you won't use unless you pay more. The higher you go you get "bonus" points. $50 gets you 516. Convenient that, you can add $5 for your purchase and now walk out with 550 so you can buy things without excess points.

Sorry, but I just find the current point/cash ratio a bit... disappointing.

Yes, I get the fact that the game is totally free. And I WANT to spend money on it at my own pace, but just can't because they are nickle-and-dimming me for points...

Let my $5 go as far as someone else's $20. You want my money right? I want to support your game but just can't lay down $20 on this game right now (I'm a med student...), and anything less than $20 just isn't going far enough. I don't want to shell out $15 so I can cover the difference in your point system, just so I can buy 1 frog. It feels like I'm being swindled tbh.

I'd say the crap pricing scheme is my only real major complaint of this game right now, and its the one that is holding me back in shelling out the cash...

nevermind. it seems they tried to make the $5 and $10 packs unattractive. I suggest buying the $20 or higher packs

If your going to "shelling out the cash" that impelys you have more than 5$ to spend so why not shell it out and drop 50-100?

$1=10 points

they give you free points, dont complain

It isn't that way at all.

Go to the shop, $1 only = 10 points for $20 purchases and up. Any less and you get less points than you spend your money on...

That's because there are credit card companies (and Paypal) charge fees for accepting their cards. I assume it's a fixed fee; That'd explain why you are getting less points if you give a smaller ammount.
For pretty much all circumstances the $5 and $10 packs don't even exist. This and certain sale recipes are the only things that irk me out of everything in the game, that's pretty damn good going.

All the same it's a pretty in your face middle finger to the people only wanting to buy a 50 point item and it really seems pretty un-GGG like. Consumers don't like to feel ripped off and regardless of whether other systems do this (Microsoft points for example) or not it doesn't make it a smart thing to do.

I personally bought the $50 bronze pack before release and can't imagine I'll need points any time soon but if I did the $5 and $10 packs would be utterly redundant and nothing short of insulting.

I've been around PoE for a long time and it does sting to be forced to negatively comment on a dev team so dedicated to the game and so clever about design and mechanics.

Bah, the problem is just one blemish on a gem but that doesn't somehow make it any less sly or insulting a business decision.

Edit: Regardless of whether or not this is due to flat billing rates on PayPal/cards it does not somehow make it acceptable. Quite frankly I'd rather pay $5.15 and get 50 usable points than $5 for points that really aren't that useful. The problem could be completely avoided by increasing the prices slightly to make the points received a logical number. Either the cash prices are odd increments, the points are or the items in the shop match points received. It makes FAR more sense to give points in multiples of 10 and adjust prices around that. I live in the UK, $20 is around £12.70. Does the fact that "ewwww, it ends in a £0.70" make me not want to buy it? No, that would be absurdity.

Quit flipping out people, they have stated MULTIPLE TIMES that this is the reason. Put down your pitchforks and tinfoil hats you psychos.

The turquoise weapon effect costs 45 points, which uses all but one point of the $5 pack.
I have a fairly odd number of points (2095) and all of mine came in increments of 100 during CB.
Just be happy that they're giving you the max number of points possible (after fees from paypal/etc) rather than rounding down to say, 40 and 90 for the $5 and $10 packs.

Perhaps it'd be better to have an option for a "custom" number of points which calculates the price on-the-fly? With perhaps a $5 minimum.

This has been argued and whined about to death.

There is an official statement by GGG(Chris) as to why the pricing is the way it is.

Buying anything is optional and not game breaking.
