just curious, but where do you put Dungeon Siege 2 in that list?

I only listed games I played, I never played DS2. Would you recommend it?

You're totally asking the wrong person.. He thinks Titan Quest is better than D2.

Because it is. You mad?

GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
Damn,Xav postead right before me.I wanted to say that D2 is equally good to PoE.Rest of mentioned games is worse.

D1 ironman > PoE > D2 > Titan Quest > Secret of Mana > D3 > Sacred 1
Nox was a great one as well. Did anyone play it?
I'm a forum warrior, i was born to post, raised to defend my league. Now my post has been removed, chained and exiled by mods who Ban. Ban is my brother; i do not fear it. I see it in the eyes of men and beasts that i troll. It will take me to play the actual game when i am ready and i am not ready.
Hmmm, this started out as a post about why players shouldnt be to mad over the patchs and has devolved (or possibly evolved) into a conversation of PoE vs. D2? Who cares how PoE stacks up to D2. If you think D2 is so much better then go play D2. If you hate PoE and the changes then move along. For the record I loved D2 and agree that it was monumental in it's influence in the genre, however you cant compare this game to a 14 year old relic. It would be like Call of Duty fans saying it couldnt hold a candle to Goldeneye. Totally different era's.

Its a FREE game. You only pay for some fluff that you dont need. EVERY game that has been online in the last 15 years has had nerfs, changes, and other fixes that change templates and builds. Its just the way it is. They fix something, players figure out the new exploits, they exploit the crap out of it, then GM's fix those exploits. Its a never ending cycle. If you cant handle that then I would suggest giving up gaming as a whole.

In regard to the nerfs, they try to throw players a bone to balance it out with a few extra goodies/bonuses to somewhat offset it. I appreciate that.

In regards to other ARPG games, they all do something special that the others don't. No game has replicated the brilliance of Diablo 2s rune words. Which is puzzling since they all rip off from each other shamelessly.

Titan Quest physics deaths were amazing, so it has that over D2s static death animations. Remember, hitting a monster (or group of monsters) and seeing them fly through the air, crash into terrain and bounce off, roll over cliffs and bump off of rocks on the way down, splash into the water, ect. After experiencing that, death animations in other games is just disappointing.

One ARPG game nobody is mentioning is Darkspore with it's incredible editor where you can adjust armor, body shapes, colors, add extra items as decorations in myriad ways to create truly unique looking heroes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qpfe4lKbTv0

The passive tree and skill gem system in POE is certainly better than D2's system.

POE's currency is roughly the same as mid/high runes.

Maps aren't an ideal end game but they beat the hell out of endless Baal runs.

Music definitely goes to D2.

Teleporting with Engima in D2 beats the shit out of leap slamming or lightning warp+faster casting+reduced duration and allowed you to go through walls.

Not really a feature of D2 but undetectable map hacks were great. (C3P0 you are sorely missed)

POE has more potential builds but nearly every possible build in D2 was viable so they have around equal build diversity.

So I would say it is pretty much a wash between the two games. Except the massive difference in graphics in POE's favor which is to be expected given the difference in release. Plus I have put 5+ years into Diablo 2 and bled all the enjoyment out of it.

everyone has their opinions

i would prefer something like runes be introduced to poe where you could combine them to make certain items

i also prefer baal runs over maps because you could be much more social with baal runs while you have to constantly be moving during maps and typing will slow you down sure you can type a little while moving from pack to pack and type between maps but that's bleh compared to being able to talk easily and still get max exp from baal runs

there are map hacks in this game and i'll leave it at that

this thread has devolved into poe vs d2 again <3 both games really are just so good

on topic i dont think people are MAD at GGG for the nerfs but i know for a fact with the VP nerf it killed many melee ci builds and when that's your only character you have to go through the whole depresion phase of selling everything you worked hard for and probably lose profit on it then find a new build that sounds good to you (source = me being nerfed into the ground and have to sell all my stuff and find a new build i like)

As long as BMs are untouched, we are good to go :D. See u at 100.
Anyone who wasn't expecting a massive slew of nerfs in these pa ch notes is obviously new to the game. That's just how GGG balances: if you have two competing options in the metagame and one dominates, nerf it. If it was dominant because it was functional and the other wasn't, making neither functional? Pick one and buff it a little in the next patch.
Can't compare POE and D2 at all... (their philosophies that is)

First of all, POE is always changing, whereas D2 remained the same for very long periods of time before significant changes. Yes, I'm a D2 fanboy as well, it's probably the #1 reason of doing badly in high school along with CS and BW. But still, let's face it, there was nothing quite like D2 when it was around (LOD and after of course). That was the past.

GGG philosophy is completely different. They want to encourage players to play the new leagues. They also actually listen to feedback and implement it in their game. People who say D2 endgame was better are so wrong. I remember endless Baal runs and MF bots, with the only really fun being low-lvl pvp. Truth is, once u have got everything you wanted, you're done with the game. It's over. There is no 'endless' endgame. That is why POE has new leagues that reset everything, from skill trees to economy, everything is fresh. You have to prove yourself all over again, and it's different each time!

I'm new here, and I may not play POE with as much dedication as I did d2 when I was a teenager, but their efforts are impressive and I'm looking forward to the new league nonetheless! They nerf something you like? Try something new!

Edit: I meant that d2/poe philosophies are different, obviously as ARPGs there are massive similarities
