Why are people against Instanced Looting?
Just to make sure you're balanced, one of the big concerns is the speed of play in a public party. In a previous survey done on the site (unfortunately I can't give a reference, it's lying around somewhere), a big factor in people not partying up was about the speed of play and people wanting to go at their own pace. By definition, FFA loot is a "fast" system. All the loot falls out, if you don't grab something, someone else does, everything good is grabbed, okay, go, move on. Instanced loot is "slower", as there is nothing to make a person hurry to pick up loot, and they could potentially tarry for a while, mulling things over.
Obviously ninjas frustrate some people, but so does one person figuring out that nothing dropped and moving on alone while the rest of their party delays, and reaching and essentially fighting everything alone. So the lesson is; if you have a good party, any loot system is good. You'll share the drops, roll need before greed, and if you're really being generous, even share currency evenly. This will be true even in an instanced loot scenario, where people will naturally operate at the same pace and make sure to supply the valuable items for other people that drop in their own instances. And in a bad party, obviously there is no sharing, and no teamwork or communication, whether loot is being "ninja'd" or not. This is essentially why I'm not concerned with the loot system. If I want a good party, it's up to me to make an effort to be nice to people and give them the things I think they need over me. |

I've defended the FFA looting system in the past, but it really is a relic. I like that they've tried to make it fair by adding a timer, but the timer isn't nearly long enough. I think at the very least items should be locked from being picked up at all until all monsters nearby have been killed. I don't think this would be that hard to implement.

" That's not true. There used to be true FFA. Now at least there is a loot timer because of all the whining the ranged classes did in closed beta. |

it took me about a day to realise d3 loot was instanced. N i was like... seriously. so thats what all those clowns were doing running around randomly..
didnt like it. But it was good when i had my group i played with n we had the same mindset on looting. like 1 more sec would be nice. Sometimes the timer is very generous to me. other times. not so much. and other times i lag spike or fps drop and the item poofs with the timer still on :( I just join partys that say they kick ninjas. Cause i do the same if im doing mf runs. Loot by name or kick. loot by name n share. Smoother than Smooth. Last edited by Moist#6523 on Jan 28, 2013, 7:33:53 AM

" As I've said before, this can be easily solved, by implementing systems to stop people from hanging back and not doing anything, for example, experience penalties, and tougher enemies. AAnd plus, if you don't like it, let the Instanced people deal with it, and you can keep on playing FFA. |

" Like I said. It was because of ranged had no chance, now they do. And people with higher ping had no chance, now they do. It was changed because of balance. Not because of playstyle. Which is what people are currently arguing about. |

" And why is that? Because GGG ignores every argument thrown at them without considering whether they make sense, and FFA supporters just tell us to accept and shut up. Is really is sad that it's the only counterargument they have, yet they're the ones getting what they want. |

We have had this discussion 1000 times already.
Play with people you trust. Instanced loot is a terrible mechanic; you DO NOT trust other people to pick up valuable loot. Like this ring? This ring would probably end up in a vendor's hands if it were the common player who picked it up. It adds physical damage, has a decent life and rarity -- but that's it. Most people would look this over. But for a facebreaker build, this is a great ring! Brilliant. This ring adds something like 150 dps to my build. In an instanced loot setting, you may never see this drop. Hell, somebody might identify it and put it back on the ground. You'll never see it, because it's INSTANCED LOOT. In CB, I got a 5L that NOBODY in our six man group noticed. People can't be expected to know what's a good item for every build. The result is that instanced loot defeats the purpose of partying, you don't share items in a group as much, you don't communicate as a group. Instanced loot is a shitty mechanic that belongs in World of Warcarft, at best. It doesn't belong here. Play with people you trust. Play with people you trust. Why would I steal from someone who's a good, fast party member who's going to net me more loot in the long run...? It's just going to get me kicked. This is the idea of trust. Find people you can trust. The shortest road to fixing the loot system is to implementing clans/guilds. This makes finding trustworthy people easier. FURTHERMORE instanced loot DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AT HAND. All instanced loot does is say, "Hey, umm, GGG, I want to have items arbitrarily forbidden for me to pick up. I don't want to ever see my party members get certain items. I just want to be blindly given loot in a group and always have a 100% chance of being screwed over by RNG. I can't handle the responsibility of finding good party members or kicking bad ones. Please take away my freedom!" Instanced loot is a TOXIC mechanic you can't just "add it as an option" and expect anybody to run FFA groups anymore; people have the popular misconception that instanced loot is "fair" -- it's not. It's just stupid. It's not fair or judgmental, it's a retarded system. Far far worse than FFA (which isn't perfect, I admit, but it's better than instanced loot). Don't believe me? PEOPLE STILL spread the misconception that "evasion builds are bad" "evasion builds are luck/RNG" -- that's simply not the case at all yet people still spread these false ideas like they would instanced loot. You wouldn't be able to have a public group with FFA loot turned on, because everyone joining it would label you and demand you change the loot rules. When something really good drops there is nobody you can trust. This is the problem.

" If you build a long-term relationship with someone, you can trust them with a really good drop. If they continue to play with you, it'll be your turn soon enough. Also, pasta, since new page:
