iron reflexes vs full evasion
which do you think would be stronger? (more tanky) out of the 2 following tree's, one is iron reflexes so no evasion, the other would be pretty much all out evasion with very little armour?
it's a dual claw build. vs Last edited by turmoil85#1898 on Jan 30, 2014, 9:45:24 PM

You'veo nly taken +32% evasion and no +% armour nodes. Even running grace that won't be enough for an armour based build(for which you want a minimum of 8-10k armour, ideall more).
Your build as written desperately needs the bonus to evasion from dexterity which you lose if you take iron reflexes. So I'm inclined to say evasion. That said, the build's life is decent but not high(I count +184% life) and you lack Mind over Matter, so if you don't plan to use a lighning coil Big boss crits(the occasional 4k-5k physical hit) are going to be a very serious problem(as these attacks are libal to kill you when you're not luck enough to evade). Moreover you have no frenzy charge nodes, so you can't really use Darkray Vectors(which has incredible synergy with Acrobatics)- So I don't think you're going to be super tanky against physical attack damage in either case. In both cases having a means of reliably blinding enemies in melee range would make a huge difference. Talisman softcore IGN:disappointment

im hoping the huge life leech will make up for the not huge life pool, i was going to take frenzy charges, but then i'd have to use bloodrage which then destroys life based builds so i went against it. i could take the 2 plus evasion nodes nearby and get leather and steel. was planning on running hatred and grace with it, i get reasonable block from the dual claw nodes as well?

Blood rage "destroys" life based builds that don't have any chaos resist. It's perfectly manageable with life leech (you'll "never" regenerate more than 20% of your HP per second with leech) and some regeneration + resistances.
Leech can only make up for so much. If you don;t have the 5k HP to soak a big hit you definitely don't want to be fighting the bosses that can spike that high. Though, in all honesty, armour is about as useful against a 5k hit as evasion is if you don;t have in the 20k+ range before granites. IR vs Acrobatics at your discretion I prefer acrobatics. I also happen to have literally no fear of tanking enemies most people would run like a little girl from. IGN - PlutoChthon, Talvathir

If you want armour don't start with shadow, you have so many dex nodes. You are away from resolute technique and you don't use crits, down to left side of the tree would be better (for armor). For that build I'd say go evasion and acrobatic.

" yeah thats cool i will go evasion and acrobatics and see how that goes, not sure how this is going to turn out! i figure if something can't kill me in one hit it probably never will, guess we'll see.... |

" To be fair people underestimate lower armour values. 8k armour mitigates 16% of a 50000 damage hit- That's 800 damage. You still take *most* of the damage, but 800 life can easily be the difference between dropping dead and surviving the hit to run away or leech back life. Talisman softcore IGN:disappointment

Pure evasion builds are prone to one shots.

I am inclined to believe that evasion combined with acrobatics and block is better than taking IR in end game with good gear for characters around lvl 90 playing 75+ maps. With bad-mediocre gear IR is a better option imo.
In either case 200% life is a must, as well as 100% evasion on tree. In case of pure evasion I would aim for 250% life. Life leech is not bad, but it does not compensate the lack of life. " I am pure evasion and I don't remember when I got one shot. Careful use of mobility skills and jade flasks, along with high evasion, high block and acrobatics makes you quite tough. Off course you really need to know the things that are able to one shoot you, so you can plan ahead. items shop: 364086

" Note, when discussing tankiness, we're talking about all sorts of map mods. And since it's about endgame, 76+ map are considered. And if there's 10% of chance you'll get hit, hard hit that passes through evasion/block will one shot. You cannot plan ahead when there are Avian Wretches shooting offscreen, and similar physical hard hitting monsters. If you're talking about ranged character, with the right movement sure evasion is better, but there's still a chance for one shots. And being a melee tank with full evasion is just hilarious. If you'd like to argue that evasion is indeed better in tanking, provide proof - videos. |
