The reason for the low level of active players in Path of Exile

Some people are satisfied being mediocre while doing what they spend their majority of time on, yes, that is correct, Aetherium.

To play games is to escape from the pressure of life, people seek something fulfilling.

Hmm, i am satisfied being mediocre in game if being mediocre is still fun. In poe it is, yay. IRL i am not satisfied with that. I strive to be exceptional, wealthy, and virtuous. It is quite fullfilling. POE is an escape from that.

It's a conflict regarding the target audience, not the game itself. If they say 'ya we'll increase drop rates' then people will rage because they're caving in to filthy casuals. If they say 'drop rates are fine, l2p' people will rage and you will see conspiracy theories about how GGG run all the RMT sites themselves. It's wiser to simply say nothing I think.

I've been reading this for more than a year now. What is endgame supposed to be, if maps are just a "placeholder"? Are there any official GGG statements about this, or is this more like "that guy said, I heard" thing?

Maps are pretty cool imo, the only big problem is that progression is luck dependent, even tho it requires you to invest resources. Either remove the cost or remove the luck dependency.

I believe a lot of the problems currently in the game stem from having only 30% of the content.

I personally believe Path of Exile will be a truly rewarding experience once it has 100% content and is entirely finished.

Some of the main offenders on gameplay experience currently in the game are :

Replay ability (same content x3 gets boring at a rapid pace)

Current endgame (just a placeholder to give people something to do at endgame, unrefined and unpolished and will probably be removed or secondary to the eventual endgame)

Loots (this will also change extensively once the game reaches 100% content and can be balanced around a finished product, instead of an ever evolving product)

That is not to say they should not try to address these issue's currently. But i think they will also resolve themselves in due time when the game is finished.

That is of course my own prediction. And might not be seen as a positive thing due to the time left until we reach 100% content.

Thing is, there never will be 100%. The game is 1.0, it's out, people are gonna judge it as it is. It may get better, but then that's what people expect of RoS with D3. Sure it'll be better, but will it be enough to make it the game people want? I'm pretty certain I can so no for D3.

For POE, the game is evolving instead of stagnating, though it's a slow burn. There haven't been any drastic changes to the game in a while, nothing that will make people reconsider the now ingrained opinion that solo play sucks ass, drops aren't at a rewarding level and that things like desync will forever keep the game back from greatness.

GGGs biggest problem is that they're a really small company. They're spreading themselves incredibly thin and really cannot keep up with the demand of fixing, balancing, adding and advertising content the way they want to (and probably need to, now that they're in the spotlight). Whether we can ever reach that nirvana of a 100% complete game is a joke, but it'd be nice to see the company get bigger to fit with the now huge game.

I am saying it is a placeholder because i believe there will be 10 act's eventually without any cruel/merciless difficulty, the difficulty will just increase with each act. And i believe that act 10 will serve as a grinding place to reach lvl 100. Maps might still exist in this scenario in order to give options to players.

The current content and cruel/merciless design of the game is to effectively reach lvl 85.

Anybody going beyond that is only stretching the content to serve his own purpose. The addition of a ladder is only to "hype" the game and give a goal, but it is not really designed to reach that goal atm.

Edit :

On a funky side-note, the map device is located in act3. With the expansion of the game to 10 act's, maps might come as soon as act3, and will not be considered "endgame" at all, but just give an addition option for leveling purposes.

(or what i would really hope, a sort of additional quest/story telling function, where you can relive "dreams" of the lore, granting a sort of lore book feeling you could play true)

Will no one say any hardcore aspects of this game are trivialized by trading?

Being completely self-found in either game mode is hardcore. Depending on what sort of gearing goals one sets to achieve doing self-found, the game can go from manageable to insanity.

But Trade nearly erases this issue of gear. It's not completely wiped out because people still have to find or make the gear in order to sell or buy it. Theoretically, if people held onto their gear instead of assigning some arbitrary value to manipulate other players with, this game would actually become very very difficult.

Increasing the drop rate of uniques might alleviate some of the issues but it won't be what "fixes the issue."

We are playing a loot game where it's contrived in such a way that "finding/crafting" (which includes MF) gear is made to be as hard as possible. The odds are against you in all aspects, except trade. In my opinion...this is why trade is tolerable...unfortunately. To add to our misfortunes, the trading system is poorly implemented with a total reliance on orbs. Orb reliance is compounded when they are scarce as drops (need IIQ).

It just leads down to a never-ending drudge of converting bad rolled rares to alts/chaos till you mass enough orbs to start trading.

I hate to say it, but most of us will have to struggle or quit till GGG puts in their supposed "fix" to the trade system. I just hope orbs get revamped somehow and maybe gear mods too...

So, PoE should respectfully decline the MMO of the Year awards it received from the MMO sites?

another 7 acts will probably take them several years if they dont go banrupkt before that from silly mistakes.

GGG needs more staffmembers , asap quality patching ( no more gem this unique that ) act4 pressureing into release (forfeit working on everything else go go act4) tada the game just got better.

i really hate those halfassed patches.
It´s what Leauge of legends did over time and it worked.
how - well its a MOBA (I dont like the term either) thus its a casual game and you can play it at any level except highelo as a casual game thus you´ve no high expectations or demands.

In a game like this - where angry players and frustrated burntout powergames flame your state of the game as unrewarding and tedious you need to realise it is when your forum is flooded with complaints and even hellbent suporters start to wake up out of the hatinduced skincoma.

This game has great potential but as long as this potential is hindered by the "economy" which can fuck itself it will forever remain a lowplayerbase d2wannabe.

real talk.
