Ask a (formerly) homeless (pseudo-)bum anything

Well, this is the most interesting thread I've seen in a while.

I was in El Paso in '08 for a few days, (before road-tripping it to Vegas). Got to cross the border to Ciudad Juarez for a spell... very interesting, the contrast of those two neighbours.

Anyway, what are you planning on doing/studying at university, Scrotie? (I didn't see that one answered yet; if it has been I apologize)

Good luck and stay safe. Or warm. Or both.

Can you give us your ballpark roadmap with dates and goals that you want to achieve? So we can monitor your ladder progress and assess your powerlevelling speed?
15JAN: Attend new transfer student orientation at UTEP; register for classes (last day of non-late registration)
16JAN: Meet with potential landlord regarding rental application
17JAN: Possible move-in to own apartment
21JAN: First day of classes
01FEB: Most probable move-in date

So I'm "powerleveling" fast enough that this thread might need a new title by the end of the week.

Maybe give us the chance to boost your progress with donational goals? :D
If you really want to send me money, send me a PM I'm not trying to cyberpanhandle or anything, so I'm not expecting anyone to help out financially, nor am I in desperate need (things are rough but thoroughly manageable), but I'm not going to turn anyone down. Except Charan; I worry about his rampant supporter spending sometimes.

Most likely getting Bachelor's in Multidisciplinary Studies (the BS BA) followed by a Masters in Computer Science. Got 36 months of GI Bill and 109 credits from other institutions, and the BMS is supposed to ensure the maximum amount of transfer credit. Need to still work out precisely how many transfer before committing to that plan.

Thanks for being very open about some things which I would not have told to people I only know online...it made the thread interesting.

Question: How did you come to choose this forum as your "homebase" for talking about your homeless experience? Do you know people from this forum (other than your ex-wife) in real life, do you feel safe on here?

Question: How often do you get to see your kids? Is your relationship still ok?

This community is awesome, despite what naysayers say. I don't really know anyone here in real life, but they've been more supportive and better friends than the real-life equivalent (and I have no trouble making friends IRL). If I post any content online, either I'm going somewhere where I get AdSense revenue, or I'm going here. And I prefer GGG's official forums to the PoE reddit or whatnot.

I see the kids weekly, and it's always good times. In terms of relations with the wife, I've already covered it.

Ok, it's 16th where I live, how possible is that move-in tomorrow?

I'd wait some hours, it is still the 15th at his place. :D
Once you get settled into a home and a new job, would you keep in touch with any of the homeless people that you have meet?

Have you meet any other homeless vets?

What is the best meal you have eaten since becoming homeless?

Iffy. I'm counting on the university to give me a letter confirming my GI bill benefits are turned on; without it I can't demonstrate income which makes landlords wary. I'm trying to get that paper today but I didn't achieve it yesterday, which delays move-in and increases risk someone else will grab the apartment from under me. Damn shame if that happens; best place for price I've seen, by no small margin.

There are many I'd keep contact with, but mostly for hustle reasons; one guy is promising big pay for personal chaffeur service for a weekend, and I believe he'd actually deliver. Only one for being truly awesome; I hope he gets back in the Army so he can go back to professionally killing people (as dictated by rules of engagement), as is his life's dream (and briefly lived). Seriously good guy, and someone needs to do it.

Best meal was probably chicken enchiladas with pinto beans, don't remember the other sides. It is El Paso, after all; the cooking staff at the current place has an obvious ethnic specialty thing going on. Seriously though, they were fucking delicious, well worth actual money to experience.
