Ask a (formerly) homeless (pseudo-)bum anything

Dear homeless bum.

How was your previous living standard compared to your new one? As John states, Network administration and security usually pays well.

Have you melted the fact yet that you are homeless and have you "adapted" as a whole to this new situation in your life?

Network administration and security sounds like a nice paycheck, you're unemployed because of location you live at? If so do you consider moving out the state or anywhere further?
It's not that great of a paycheck whe you're doing it as a lower enlisted soldier in the Army. On the bright side, they don't give a crap about your lack of degree or certifications, and it's fantastic big-enterprise experience. On the down side, once you get out you don't have said degree or certs, which is why I'm unemployed.

I'm homeless because, in my mental breakdown last year, instead of coming to grips with these facts, I kept banging my head against a wall, trying to get jobs in the industry regardless. If I was less crazy I would have realized the necessity of utilizing the GI Bill sooner.

I'm unsure whether I'll move or not. I'm inclined to stay within visitation distance of my children, but as pay increases so does visitation distance (more "travel budget"). Would love to work for Google or Apple. Or GGG, for that matter.

But degree first.

Covered your first question already, partially. The Army does pay rather well, even for low rank, particularly when married. (Yes, they pay you more for having a wife.) But let's not forget I spent a year sleeping in a tent in Afghanistan. I kind of view the soldier life as traveling to distant lands and living the homeless lifestyle; the main difference is I've gone from doing it professionally to unpaid amateur status. So, yes, adapting was relatively easy, especially once I found a shelter with near-zero drug use. (Even when very strictly prohibited, where there is a will there is a way.)

Do you have a gym membership? Where do you take showers and keep your important stuff? Do you even lift?

Where do you use the restroom when the need arises? Where I live a majority of "public" restrooms are quite pricey and I assume you count every buck. Same goes for showers etc. - shelter only?
Restrooms aren't pricey; "for customers only" is usually more a suggestion than a rule. Showers are a little trickier, enough so where daily can be an unrealistic standard — not all shelters provide showers, although many do. There are still tricks though; for example, before arriving at a shelter with showers, I would show my driver's licence at the Fort Bliss gate, go to one of the soldiers' gyms, and use the showers there. Might be wrong (I'm authorized MWR privilages until 2015, do gyms count?), but even so I don't think Big Army much cares about unauthorized destinking.

Being unemployed, how do you differentiate between the weekdays and the weekend?

I have trained my dog to know the difference. On weekdays I beat it with a stick and only feed it barely enough food to survive. But on the weekends I give it pats, take it for long walks and feed it rump steak. Now the dog appreciates weekends like I do.

Just posting to say, hope you doing well Scrotie.

Seems like you found something fun to keep you busy :).

Will you eventually return to PoE central? Or did you decide to kick the bucket and go full
RL-mode?

Best wishes (and a happy late new-year)
Peace

O.O, as a dog lover i take offense, rump steak should be on sundays only, one must never forget to demonstrate who is the dominant one in the relationship.

Weekdays are glorious; they represent venturing out into the world, seeking opportunities for self-improvement, and getting things done. Sunday is a piece-of-shit day where I have nothing productive to do, other bums look at me funny when I don't go to church, and I'm often depressed by my own unfulfilled horniness; definitely missing PoE on Sundays. Saturday's somewhere in between.

I still have PTSD from a dog bite to my groin when I was in fifth grade. Cocker spaniel, of all fucking possible breeds; just clamped down its jaw and dangled there, letting gravity do the shredding. Can't help but get all skittish around small dogs, especially unleashed, and I kicked a stray in the face once as an adult (it was running towards me, intent unknown). No problem with the big ones. Point being, I'm vaguely aware your comments are considered morally reprehensible, but I can't quite bring myself to be offended.

I definitely think I was prioritizing wrong before, playing PoE when I should have been out making moves to improve my situation. But I was also watching a shitload of Netflix, and PoE's better. I'll be returning, but I plan on being more responsible with my time in general.

Can you give us your ballpark roadmap with dates and goals that you want to achieve? So we can monitor your ladder progress and assess your powerlevelling speed?
Be ready. You're not paranoid, you're PREPARED.

I quit this game every few months and so should you to continue playing it in the future.
