Well, I'm about half a decade away from 50, but I thought some of my fellow 'seasoned' players might appreciate this. I was cruising through the submerged passages with a ranger today. Flocks of spawns came at me and I was left clicking like crazy, arrow after arrow after arrow and I thought, "I've done this before." And then I remembered...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gauntlet_(1985_video_game) Ahhh....good times pumping quarters into that machine to fight wave after wave after wave. Video games may have evolved significantly since then. But some things feel strangely the same. zombiedismembermentfuckyeah! Last edited by RandallMourn#6976 on Dec 21, 2013, 4:43:14 PM

Great thread!
RandallMourn, I was also a devoted Gauntlet player. Oh man, that game LOVED eating up my quarters. Many a day I skipped high school to feed that one, along with others like Asteroids & Galaxian. I'm also mid 40's now, and was an arcade rat back then. :) |

I turn 54 today. I stopped playing games when I started a family around the SNES days, now that they are both through college I find that I have a lot of free time on my hand. D3 got me playing again and then a little bit of torchlight before finally stumbling onto POE a couple of weeks before open beta. I have to say that my mind isn't as quick as it use to be and my fingers aren't always finding the buttons in a timely manner. CWDT is a godsend for people like me.

Doing fine! Multiple characters over 50, and I'm 52 (almost 53!) myself.
Like to meet more > 50's. Much more interesting to converse with. A well-stocked mind is secure from boredom. And all that. ;) |

" Apologies if I am briefly sidetracking the thread, but a couple of quick things. grant_m, it's great to run into another arcade rat. :) It's funnny that you mentioned Asteroids. For one, it remains one of my 5 favorite arcade games. Interstingly, it's the first video game I can recall where 'farming' was utilized. For those not familiar, a basic stategy in Asteroids was to leave a single rock roaming on the screen. This would prompt the game to continuously spawn small ships (which were worth the most points). It was much easier to obtain a high score 'farming' small ships than to clear the screen and have to start a new level. Again, the more things change.... zombiedismembermentfuckyeah!

44 year old gamer here, started on a philips 2000p system then a atari 130xe, 1040st, 1040ste, then came the pc's and never left those :-)
My favorite games are rts, arpg, rpg, 4x turn based and real time rts and ofcourse 1st person shooters which i'm proud to say am still good at, usually in the top 3 :-) Been playing poe since closed beta, taken a break for nearly a year, and playing for a few months now again since 1.0 and loving it. My favorite class is the witch and especially summoners, i don't have many high level chars because i tend to play my 2 summoners exclusively :-) trying to find upgrades for these, and mostly selffound is quite hard but unlike the young ones i don't mind if it will take me years to get the perfect gear. Anyway it's good to see i'm not the only "old geezer" playing this game :-) It's hard being evil in a world gone to hell.

Mt very first interaction with a computer was in 1972. My cousin and her friend asked me to take them to a prospective college as they were graduating from high school. My cousins friend became my wife! 40th anniversary last summer.
Anyway part of what this college offered was computing courses and I got to play a few downs in a text football game some students had developed. I later tried to wrap my head around machine language and gave up. Its more fun to play than code. My days with my Vic 20 were great memories. |

This goes out to all the young 'uns:
Don't worry guys! I am a 52 year old. 53 next July. I have been a gamer all my life. First board-games, then pen-and-paper RPG and tabletop wargaming which I still do. However I balance that with lots of physical activities. Canoeing, marathon running and my base: martial arts. In martial arts I know many people up to the age of 80 who can still kick higher than their own height. Myself included. So from personal experience I can say that you will be able to conserve your level of physical fitness from the age of 40 for 20 to 30 years if you train for 4 to 6 hours a week. Personally I seem to be able to achieve this while working full time and being in a loving marriage with two little daughters aged 4 and 6 respecively. Did I mention that I am crap at PoE? I am 20810th in the current season ;-) See you in Wraeclast The light at the end of the tunnel is nothing but a muzzleflash.
