I just had to post in this thread.
Thanks to the OP for starting it. :) So, About me.......I found POE back in the early closed beta days & have been playing it since then. I have 16 toons now spread across all 4 leagues. My highest is a lvl 80 Facebreaker build on Standard. Now I'm working a tri totem arc witch w/curses & zombies(no 1 button spam toon for me) on Domination & man is she fun to play. Lvl 53 now & going for maps. I've also deleted 25+ toons that I either screwed up the builds on or just couldn't get into for the fun factor. On my witch, I made it all the way to Piety's house with only 1 death. :) I play solo but I will group up to farm sometimes, but I do all the quests & bosses solo. I play about 8+ hours a day & try to play all the classes but some builds are not that much fun after about lvl 40 so I move on to other builds. Back in the day I played pong(of course) & then Ms. Packman, Donkey Kong, Mario Bros(1) & then got away from gaming until about 8 yrs ago when I started playing WOW & realized what I have been missing. If someone does start a "Over The Hill Gang" guild contact me as I'll be interested in joining. O, almost forgot,(I have a bad case of CRS), I'm 71 y/o. REALLY. I'm 36, but when my mom was alive she would play mario on the nes with me. I doubt she would play a game like this, (violence, gore, complexity) but she enjoyed simple button mashers. If she was still alive, she would probably play flash style puzzle games.
It's nice to see the generation before me enjoying technological wonders like video games. Play on... There comes a time thief when jewels cease to sparkle, gold loses it's luster, throne room becomes a prison, and all that's left is a father's love for his child. - King Osric

" Hello, I'm 54 and can't play the twitch reaction game like I used to a decade plus ago. I read the Notregret posts on running a blue only Nemesis build and I was especially interested in how he defeated Cruel Dominus. I have 2 builds (one a Normal league Duelist archer and a new Domination league Scion) that were stuck on trying to defeat Dominus. After reading Notregret's post on the Cruel Dominus battle and his ability to tank the Dominus Ascendant form it's clear to me that Notregret can twitch react faster than many on us can to stay alive. No amount of planning and doing this or that to stay alive will overcome the fact that we can't react as fast as someone 30+ years younger than us. I have come to understand that with my slower reaction time that I must wait until I have just leveled up to take on the act ending bosses. I know I will die, have resigned myself to this, and don't want to lose XP so having just leveled up I don't rage quit over XP loss. For the Cruel Dominus battle I got through the first 2 minion groups without dieing but human Dominus gave me problems and I'd die. I finally can now get past his human form knowing that the stream of projectiles are lightning damage but I still need to react fast enough to pop a topaz flask and move to the side to avoid most of that damage. The Dominus Ascendant form, well that's where I currently die a lot. If I stay inside the blood rain protection bubble I get killed by his physical damage and if I am outside it the chaos damage is killing me so either way I just have to endure a dozen or so deaths to defeat him. I finally did that with my Duelist and got past that wall and moved on to cruising the Merciless Act I content. I understand GGGs desire and need to increase difficulty with the new acts but Cruel Dominus is too OP for the older of us that can't react as fast. Since I'm cruising in Merciless Act I with my ranger that indicates that Cruel Dominus is a major difficulty wall. Of course with all the Domination league players that are in Merciless or end game maps they will state otherwise and a few even post that Dominus is too easy. Cruel Vaal isn't too bad and as a ranger as long as you have speed boots (+15% movement or better) you should be able to kite fast enough to avoid the laser blasts. If you can see the shadows fast enough and move quickly to avoid the ceiling rocks that is the hardest to do. If you stay close enough to Vaal the rocks won't fall at all but then you need to be very observant so that when he starts the wind up for his giant slam attack that you react fast enough and move out of the way or you can be one-shot killed by it. Some one posted that once a rock falls that spot is a safe place to stand still on as the rocks won't fall twice in the same place. I'm not sure if that's true or not but I'll find out when I reach Merciless Vaal. I do know that having zombies or skeletons will give Vaal other targets to laser shoot at so there is a chance you won't get shot at all so having them is a big plus when soloing in the boss battles. Note: Once you defeat Vaal and get to Act III be very careful to stay clear of the one creature (there is always one and only one) that throws the bear traps on you. I died a few times the first time I engaged it having never encountered a creature which uses bear traps. That creature keeps throwing bear traps so fast that you usually can never move and unless you are a tank (as an evasion kiting archer I'm not) that continuous bear trapping plus physical damage will kill you quickly. "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..." Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration. " I did the very same. One of my buddies was so good at it, he'd rack up 99+ (I seem to remember that only 99 would show up even though more were there, lol) free ships while utilizing that farming method! Cheers, and apologies for the further derailing :) |

" Wel, that definitely puts you on top of the age heap! Grats to you at 71 years old! Interesting strategy Arrowneous and I just love you name! |

" That game was amazing! But my absolute favourite was Aztec Challenge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aztec_Challenge on Commodore 64. :-D My mother was a beast in it, she was able to beat the game while I sucked at it bad. Oh damn the memories... Back on topic - I'm turning "only" 32 next, but can't see myself growing out of the video games ever; I grew up with C64 and early 286/386 PC's. This thread made my day. :-) Are you shpongled yet?
