I'll just post this again because people seem to conveniently ignore it.

They did it to compensate for the lower profit margins on the smaller packs. Yes, GGG is trying to make a profit. BOOOOOOOO.

Sigh. Maybe they should've made this a retail release.

No one is denying that there is a reason for it (and that reason is obviously to increase their bottom line). The problem is that you can't tote yourself as delivering a f2p game with "ethical microtransactions," then engage in the unfair practice of, first, using a currency system over straight cash and, second, adding a sort of penalty for making the minimum payment for that currency.

In other words, no one would be bitching if the currency went

$5 | 50
$10 | 110
$20 | 225

or something similar. Instead, the currency goes

$5 | 46
$10 | 96
$20 | 200

despite the fact that everything in the shop costs a multiple of 5 points. It's setup to intentionally leave you with leftover funds unless you make purchases of more than $10.

The ethical part applies to the fact that ANY of the stuff of you buy gives an advantage of exactly 0 in-game.

When it comes to using a currency system - I won't go into that. It's an entirely different discussion and I would say that more often than not I'd prefer a straight-cash system as well. I guess the main point here was to make transactions easier for all regions.

As for the penalty, that where I disagree. In order for the to make a proper profit, they would need to sell 20$ pack and higher. If it was up to me, 20$ would be the minimum, removing the lower tiers since they require such measures in order to be profitable. Even if it is just goading players into buying more. If anything, it's more of a service than a screw-over.
Would anybody like some... POUNDCAKE?

Lol? im just stating facts, you guys complaining about cosmetic shop items?

Give me a break.

That is the same logic as complaining about an over-priced bottle of wine at your local store.

To all of the people alienating potential customers that are upset over this - you are idiots. People want to support GGG, and they never mentioned that they would change their pricing methods. Everyone on the forum indicated that they would stay the same.
Entitled Human = Worst kind of human.

The game is free - shut the fuck up.

Besides the terribly high prices in the shop, how can you, Grinding Gear Games, in good faith, make such a pitiful attempt to squeeze your customers of every penny.

Terribly high prices? Unemployed I take it.

Squeeze their customers of every penny? THE GAME IS FREE!!!!

Nice try there. This is obviously far from a cash grab. Diablo III was a cash grab. This is a free game. Don't want to buy custom effects, don't buy custom effects, but either way please don't spew filth like this about the developers.
