Why is GGG caving in to casuals' demands?

scam [skæm] Slang
n
a stratagem for gain;

This is one meaning for the word scam. Scam is a multi-meaning word. When someone uses the word scam it can be used for a plethora of situations as there is no one legal definition of a scam.

Ripped-off and Fraud are not words that pertain to multiple slight definitions in the context of casual conversation.
I haven't seen an OP post in awhile. I was hoping to see him respond to replies after he claimed he was game developer himself. I am disappointed.

Uhm, no.

There's no trick involved, no confidence-gaining and betrayal. All it is is charging extra for the convenience, given that many service stations are 24/7 and most supermarkets are not. Thus, 'convenience stores' are reputed to cost more than 'supermarkets'.

Not a scam.

Right.

Lots of stuff which concludes by saying, yes, ripped-off and scammed are pretty much the same word in certain circumstances [such as casual discussion]

So while I'll allow some measure of linguistic vagueness, the difference between a rip-off and a scam speaking legally is pretty clear to me. And it is in a legal sense that folks on here try to invoke it.

Are they? To be honest, I've never seen anyone imply some form of legal issue with the trading of in-game items.

If they have, then, yes, they are wrong.

But I seriously doubt people are implying a legal context, I suspect that is how you are reading it.

I suspect people are using it in the context for which it is most commonly used in general banter situations - that they have been ripped-off.

I've never read the word scammed on a trading gaming forum to mean anything other than ripped-off. If someone is performing an illegal action on a gaming forum I usually see the words RMT, hacked, stolen etc etc.

For PoE, the law is the terms of use, so to speak. An "illegal" action in PoE (but not the world) is something bannable. People have posted about scams asking for bans.

if AH existed in poe, perhaps 5% of the population would still continue actually to play while the 95% stalked the AH all day for flip targets. the situation atm is already pretty bad with AH it would turn poe in an econ sim.

It would only do that to those who decided to play the game that way. One could just as easily argue that the current state of POE is that of a "Slot Machine Sim", with the way crafting is implemented. However, the alternative to that is by killing monsters, collecting what currency you can and buying items.

Same could be said for your "Ecom Sim" nonsense. If you don't want to play the buy-low/sell-high game, then go kill monsters and loot them all day.

I'm not sure why making things less annoying always amounts to "making things too easy" or "ruining the world for all eternity".

Oh and ripped-off = "I paid 20ex for an item only worth 2chaos" -- scammed = "he advertised the item as iLevel 99 but it was really iLevel 10"

The moment you invoke a scam, you want someone to take responsibility, someone who isn't you.

Like you were 'wrongly done by'.

Whereas if you're ripped off, the egg is firmly on your face.

I never read it like that on gaming forums. I read it as people simply 'raising awareness'. Whether ripped-off, scammed or defrauded, someone has been left in a situation where they feel someone has done them some form of wrong, and so have a natural urge to apportion blame and potentially revenge/punishment.

It's not the job of the poster to tell them scam is the wrong word, it's the job of the poster to confirm whether that particular scam is legal or not.

Agree, the game has become totally casual. GGG cavin' much! For example:

1.) You can party with / get carried by others and this makes the content a total faceroll. Content its not even a challenge worthy your time. It's also practically impossible to die in party, except by technical issues.

2.) When you need something, a piece of gear or a gem, you just buy it. Instant gratification trading - totally casual!! We dont take kindly to casuals here, D3 is that way -->>

3.) In so called hurrdurrcore, when a top streamer dies, he just sells his gear for cross-league exalts, and with the help of his buddies (and possibly a pinch of RMT magic) is back on top farmin' maps the very next day.

...wait a minute...

Oh, noes! The game was always designed for casuals!!

This is the most idiotic thing I've ever read on the PoE forums, with the exception of the guy who thought the orb angels were sex demons.

1.) I've seen plenty of people die in parties, even with geared players.
1a) name any other online game where this never happens?

THATS RIGHT. THERE ISNT ONE.

2.)oh, okay. well you can go back to the RPGS you play where there is absolutely 0 trading.

oh right. the good ones all have it. next point.

3.)hahahahaha, okay that's so funny. I didnt realize that EVERYONE who plays PoE is the same as 3 streamers you watch daily.

Seriously, this is as hardcore a troll post as you can get.

I heard reply was alt-f4'd before it actually saved... so not quite as hardcore as you'd be scammed into thinking.
