Why is GGG caving in to casuals' demands?
" That's PoE for ya. I remember banging my head against difficult content, knowing that it could give me drops I could equip to enable me to bang my head against more difficult content, knowing that it could give me drops that I could equip to enable me to bang my head against...and on, and on. That, was aRPG progression. No trading necessary, no gating other than difficulty and no requirement to farm content far, far easier than you'd like. That was the abortion of a game called Diablo 3. It had its problems, 99 and more, but PoE's bitch wasn't one. I'm amazed that GGG devs, who in many ways created the game which D3 failed at, themselves fucked up so badly in the one part that Blizz actually got right. Casually casual.

" That is what amazes me about this community. They blindly flame D3 for the AH when we have a worse situation in PoE with an entropic trading system. I think the real reason why a lot of people are against a more streamline trading system is because it becomes much harder to scam people and the worth of items will become more defined. There will be no more of this item is 3c than the same item with the same rolls someone wants an ex for it. For instance, I was in the market for a pair of windscream boots. The prices were all over the place to the point where I believe its because people don't know the value of said item. The common tactic of scammers in the current trading system is to have a number in their head of what they want for x or y item but tell people to "offer". They hope you go over what they have in mind. Everyone has a ballpark of what they hope to get out of an item. The loot situation in PoE is just as bad if not worse than D3. In D3's defense, they've at least made their item gating better by making I.lvl 63 affixes(highest stat ranges) appear on any item dropped in Inferno on MP1. In PoE, you need I.lvl 78 map loot and that is gated behind maps. Last edited by GolbezFF4#6569 on Dec 19, 2013, 5:39:18 PM

Not true, you can sell plenty of good rolls ilvl 70+, 68+ really.
How of do you think that lottery drop of ilvl 78 with max tier rolls is dropping? Yeah. Ive made like idk 5 ex in a 3-4 day span of playing the market and selling drops. An item is worth what someone is willing to pay for if you are taking the time to trade/buy. Takes 10 seconds tot hrow 50 items on an AH, if you dont want to take the time to trade then you don't deserve the reward you get from trading. Simple as that. You also don't always have to voerpay (unless you are bad) you can buy plenty of good rares for much less than what they are worth. Stop looking for all the uniques everyone wants just to have it to sell it. Play the game, progress, have fun and wealth will come. Ive been playing for 2years, and I am proof it always comes as I have had 0 mf chars in the span of this two years. And its funny how you mention "people just dont want real prices". Haha, funny because then every rare you had you thought was good there will be 700 almost identical ones and your 10-15c drop will now be worth 3-4c or less. "I'm not exactly in love with multiboxing either, I was looking at the issue from a non-multiboxing perspective. "Apparently you think that players not being ripped off* is a good thing, and that flattening prices for everyone is a benefit. It isn't. That's just one step closer to price determinism, and having absolutely every piece of gear you found boiled down to a flat number. At least with the current system, that item could be 3c, it could be 1 Ex, you don't really know... and that keeps the item at least somewhat exciting, not boring, not predictable. Entropy is the state of universal sameness in a system when all energy has been dispelled. The more the system intrinsically fights sameness, the less entropic it is. D3 is the entropic market; PoE is the one that fights it (comparatively). RNG is amazing, because it inherently fights entropy. Entropy sucks, but you have the roles reversed. What you're afraid of is a situation where the noob is brutally fleeced by the vet, and that is the only form of getting ripped off is by simple ignorance. I'm against the same thing, but where you want to solve the problem by making the noob know "the answer," I want to solve it by depriving the veteran of "the answer." Jack up the difficulty in evaluation, make trading decisions hardcore... and make it so even the vets rip themselves off when they don't know what they're doing. Introduce complicated ignorance to the system. Which is why I hate any form of searchable buyout system, such as xyz.is, with a passion. No issue with the searchable indexing portion of that site, just the pricecheck function. Fuck pricechecks; figure that shit out on your own. * "Scammed" is the wrong term; that refers to pure fraud, which isn't the case here. if AH existed in poe, perhaps 5% of the population would still continue actually to play while the 95% stalked the AH all day for flip targets. the situation atm is already pretty bad with AH it would turn poe in an econ sim.

" You might be right, but I'm not entirely convinced. I think it would actually go the other way, where flipping became far less profitable, and grinding for items would be more important. Anarchy/Onslaught T shirt

Honestly I find it hilarious that the OP is going on about casuals demands when he is a casual himself (look at his characters)

" No. Ripped off, scammed and fraud are all different words meaning different things. Ripped off - legal Scammed - legal and illegal Fraud - illegal Being in a gas station you are more likely to be ripped off on the price of your Mars Bar than if you bought it from a regular retailer. Charging extra for the Mars Bar is a scam. Buying cheap Mars Bar copies and putting them in empty wrappers of real Mars Bars is a scam that is fraud. |
