What is "Self Found" exactly?
" I get what you're saying. I even can agree with it as an extreme. But, like I said, that would mean they would need to drastically increase drop rates not just change them a bit. If the result is the same (I find enough chroms, fuses, jeweler as I would from vendoring) then they can either impliment it or not. Result is the same so why bother? But, like I said, from a purist pov I like it. But, SFL's not just about playing with what you find it's also about crafting loot, and further reducing ability to craft is going to reduce the fun factor even more, and it is all about enjoying the game after all. Also, vendors are a game mechanic, no one suggests that buying from a vendor in Titan Quest is not self-found. They (you) only bring it up as a point to argue about SFL's ethics. |

It's not just "this is a milder form of what we say we're against, but we do it anyway." It's also "this is something we never participate in, therefore in any game we play it should be utterly forbidden." (Each league is essentially a modded version of PoE.)
When you combine those two, it's clear that the main thrust isn't about enabling the self, but about restricting others; and not about self-found, but about social interaction. I've made numerous suggestions for improving self-found which don't involve a prohibition on trading (in any league), and they've mostly fallen on deaf ears within the SFL community. Fixing the disparity between high-level and low-level crafting, smart drops so you get more potential upgrades and less trade fodder, more new vendor formulas, reducing the advantage groups have with map cost... pretty much everything self-found actually needs, when simply removing trade and replacing it with nothing but more drops wouldn't remove the desire to trade one bit. Why ignored? Because it's not about improving self-found, it's about finding a spot with a clear global advantage (such as higher drop rates), sticking a sign in the sand that says "no traders allowed," and feeling superior and entitled. One important note: I am generalizing here. The average "SFL" response is not necessarily the individual response. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted. Fine remove the vendors......chances are the few extra orbs he gives won't make a difference on the slot machine. It's not the amount of times you play the slots,it's how wound up the ratio on the slots are.
I'll still end up in act 3 merciless at around level 71 with sub-optimal gear that I found/crafted when way back at level 40 something, maybe even earlier. Yes improved gambling would be better than improved orb drops. Last edited by Temper#7820 on Dec 6, 2013, 3:06:53 AM

" Well, even though you are admitting generalizing, you are also clearly posting from a biased perception. It is obvious that you want trading involved at all costs. Why not go all the way? Have at it then, start suggesting GGG should remove all solo races, all races that feed into the void and that they absolutely have to involve the economies in some way or another. We can't have those filthy SFers enjoying themselves now, can we, god forbid some people don't like economic considerations and related effort in gaming. Oh and for most SFL proponents, I'd guess vendoring is protected, just like pretty much anything else that isn't strictly tied to economy. |

Lets' all just wait and see what paid leagues can offer us shall we.The hate and bickering about a game is concerning to say the least.

" I'm pretty sure most people who want a SFL are waiting for paid leagues (though apparently many would still like a SFL, regardless). Not knowing anything about it isn't really helping though, besides that there are definite concerns with paid leagues based on the limited (mostly speculative) information. |

GGG isn't going to allow buffs in paid leagues. You want trading disabled? They'll do that. You want increased drop rate? Sorry, no dice.

" Cool, now they just have to find an audience. Though I guess it doesn't have to be a large audience, a couple of high contribution supporters and it's all good, right? |

" How about a decent gambling success rate in over 30 levels ?
Spoiler
level 71....... really ? It's certainly not from lack of trying. lol The five link was the luckiest roll ever in that characters short self found life and was also the end of his orbs.No longer able to roll for anything at all, time to sit on the bench. Two or three maps to his name and now will be deleted or become fed orbs like a baby with an a new alt. It's not rewarding,it's not satisfying and it's not all that fun, even for a masochist like myself. Look at that gear ! level 71 .... really ? Given I play an extreme solo self found rule set,but really ? Last edited by Temper#7820 on Dec 6, 2013, 3:55:16 AM

" Honestly, the main given reason for no buffs was that temporary leagues have to feed into permanent parent leagues after they end, and GGG didn't want to unbalance parent leagues (how balanced Standard is is another question though). However, with the void leagues, I think GGG might consider paid leagues with some buffs (or rather some buffs and drawbacks like SFL is) if there's a serious demand. |
