What is "Self Found" exactly?

What are the accepted criteria for playing "self found"?
1) Can you craft? 2) Can you trade orbs for other orbs for crafting purposes? 3) Can you sell to other players for orbs for crafting purposes? 4) Does self found imply solo play exclusively? Im not sure if I qualify as self founs myself since I do 1-3 even though I play solo 95% of the time. Its just a curious thought that has crossed my mind occasionally. |

You can play in party.

Self found is pretty much just no trade.

" Self-found means exactly what it says...you only use what YOU find yourself. This does include using any orbs you find to craft with. I would even consider buying/selling from NPC's to be acceptable. Any trading of any kind with other players is out though. * As for this, technically, you can play in a group as long as you use only items that actually drop for you and don't trade with the other players. Most people who do self-found at all though, will specifically say SOLO self-found which does rule out partying. |

" Do you know most people who play? Because you're describing instanced loot. I've played more than a couple of ARPGs on local networks with friends for instance, with ffa drops and I'd consider it self found. |

Self found is you are soloing a map, find loot on the ground and use it.
Or. Find loot and use orbs you found to make it. I guess you could party up and find loot (granted some jerk doesn't snag it while you are doing all the dirty work) Self found is NOT trading for it, RMTing for it. Buying the orbs or trading for the orbs to make something. Basically what you find from actually playing the game is self found. What you find from chat/websites/forums is not. just for try, for see and for know

Well just to be clear I never use web sites or any rmt. I simply dont buy gear, but I do exchange orbs so I can roll my own gear...and if I find a valuable unique or skill gem Ill sell that for chaos usually.
So thanks for the responses, I obviously dont play self found but I enjoy my play style...at least when people arent trying to BS alt rates on me. ;) |

Do people play self found because they enjoy the challenge, or because they are afraid/incapable of trading?

" I play the way I play for fun and I think many who play SF do so for the same reasons and it does add challenge. I wouldnt use the word afraid but many do find the trading system frustrating I believe. Also, I think many solo players simply dont want to deal with immature, greedy, untrustworthy, dishonorable players...which the community sadly is rife with. |
