So after playing diablo 3, despite its many flaws, I think its definitly the better game

Totally agree. D3 will be a superior console game in every aspect.

Better game for under 30h experience? Diablo 3
Better game for over 30h experience? Definitely PoE

Well said, totally agree.

And "Clunky", I'm not quite sure how to explain it. But it just feels not as great as D3. Using a skill in POE in combat just doesn't feel as good. Maybe it is because D3 has more animations and skill chains? Not sure, but it really just doesn't feel that smooth in POE.
Its because people dont like to stand still during their attacks, and PoE does this with a LOT of skills, some might say all skills.

I do think its a bit of a problem honestly, but not that big a deal to me. How I personally fix this is always ensure I have a bit of attack speed, then its not such an issue to me.

That analogy of D3 is useful to me (since I havent played it), but I know that if I have a spare 30h ill be playing Assassins creed (new one), not D3.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure in D3 you have 0 chance to miss with your attacks. There is still dodge and block, but I don't think your attacks can miss (haven't played the game in forever)

I've had a few friends fresh off D3 try out PoE say right away that it feels kinda clunky, and when I asked them what they meant they usually responded with "my attacks are not always hitting" or something similar. I also feel once you have a faster attack speed and some movement speed, any feeling of clunky is pretty much gone.

D3 is going to thrive as a console game because it plays like it was built for one. Inferior mechanics and zero challenge will have forever exiled it (see what I did there?) to the land of the button mashers.

I stopped playing POE a while ago because of:

The skillsystem is disappointing,
I was really looking forward to create a "unique" and complex character, my plan was to use at lease 5 different skills in my build, had to use macro on my mouse to use them probably (mouse bindings patch came later).

Turns out its not possible to this, because its not viable (Build with 5 activs skills).
I tried out several builds i made up myself, none of them came even close to popular ability spam builds.
The whole skillgem system is a joke for me now...
Most skills are sooo bad you can only make them work if you use the right legendary, seriously? Thats just poor design.
So all this variety comes down to a small number of skills.

The skilltree seems to be very complex, i spent hours planning my builds in the passive skill tree, it was fun, but overall, all the builds share to much in common, there is no real diversity.
This is mostly caused by the fact that there are 1000 skills to choose, but only 120 skillpoints to spend.
Because of that you cant make a unique build work.
Try to make a physical crit ranger, you will always lack something important... its not viable.

The Statsystem is also disappointing, i was looking forward for a more complex system as in Diablo 3, but it turns out you only have to Stack Life or ES (like Vitality in Diablo 2) and get "some" defence, doesnt rly matter what kind, stacking "All resist" like in Diablo applies here too, BORING.

Because elemental ailments and stuff are calculated of health pool, well you know how it works...

Overall it turns out this game seems to be super complex, but in thruth its even MORE simplified than Diablo III.

I never got the feeling of smooth gameplay, a good character progression or a rewarding game experience.
My builds sucked, my items sucked, socket linking sucked, the game lags (Desynch), the party play is way off and all about stupid rushing, PVP is a joke, there is no real chat lobby, there is no way for easy trades, you have to spend so much time to make trading work (time i dont have!) and its super boring.

This game is kind of a new experience and has potential, I give you that, but overall it was disappointing.

I played POE sporadically for about 3-4 months, Hardcore and Anarchy, but soon went back to Diablo 3 Hardcore.

I will check out POE again when its finally released, but from what ive seen so far, im not very optimistic, even though i like the changes about mid level range progression (linking 4 sockets and stuff).

Maybe this game is just not for me, but I agree with the OP that this game still has major flaws which have not been fully adressed imho.

If Reaper of Souls turns out to be a good expansion (which im also sceptical about!), POE will be dead.
And dont get me wrong, i dont want this, would like so see POW grow even more, but in its current or near future state (release), i dont see that happening.

I dont think POE will ever be a HIT game without major changes (but no flop either).

P.S.:

Here is one good example about build diversity. (official POE youtube account)

Check out this playlist about "builds of the week" and see how EVERY ONE of these builds has been nerfed to death.

Just hilarious.
Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.

Wow. That's not surprising.

I still remember watching beta videos with 4 on 4 arena combat. Wonder what happened to that?
