Magic Find: Why fix something if it isn't broken?
On my melee I lose 4k armor out of 8k total, 1 k evasion out of 5k total, 1k health out of 4,5k total and a shit ton of resists that I have to get in the tree and a lot of dps, not to mention 1 aura. All that for 250/70 mf. On my mf caster I sacrifice 1k es out of 6k and no dps at all for 370/100. Another flaw to my melee builds just makes me play some other game. Good trade off? Feels nice and balanced? Sure, whatever suits you, till you get bored of the same stuff I did get bored with when you waste so much time as I did in this game. MF is one of those things that makes melee not an equally valuable build choice in this game. So easy to fix this one, but why try when it's all fine and dandy.

" Could you post build and gear with main offensive/defensive stats in mf and non-mf mode? Thanks! |

1. It isn't required but let's you gear up like 8x faster than someone who doesn't MF. That's unacceptable.
2. See number one. 400% rarity means you find 4x the uniques... aka 4 times fater. With 100% iiq that is 8 times faster. 3. Whats the whole point of the game? To acquire wealth and godly items. It's a loot game. If a mf character helps you do that WAYYYYYYYYYYYY faster who wouldn't play one? Most map groups won't even play if there isn't a cull mfer. 4. Obviously something would be done to compensate for mf, but i'm against the removal of MF. Just rework the system somehow. "If it aint broken don't fix it" is a saying about machines and doesn't apply to video game systems... If something can be improved you should improve it. " The point is some build choices cannot even come close to stacking magic find that high and being remotely viable. That's pretty much indisputable. Even if I did care about dying on my magic find character, it wouldn't take a whole lot of effort to buy a few pieces of very nice gear to make up for any loss to survivability. With my magic find build I can avoid damage pretty well while my dps machines can do whatever they want with basically no effect to them at all. Thats a gigantic difference to lets say a melee build that cannot feasibly wear two andvarius rings, sadimas, perandus and the other stuff. Standard Forever

MF as a mechanic isn't bad. It fills the gap in quite a few builds which have a difficult time increasing their clear speed at the end-game. It also provides a nice choice for people who mastered all content.
That is what MF should be, but it isn't the reality of MF at the moment. Because of MF's power, it encourages getting it and farming docks/lunaris instead of progressing into maps, leading to boring and stale gameplay. And if you choose not to get it, and your gear is insufficient for maps, you get stuck praying to the RNG gods and relying on MF party members for drops. Either way, MF denies progression. But there's no need to nerf MF. Buff maps for non-MF builds, and you fix MF. Last edited by Novalisk#3583 on Sep 15, 2013, 10:31:08 AM

Disable mf in maps, make the iiq/iir on map rolls 3x as high depending on the mods you roll = rewarding map system and a sense of "yeay i did NOT waste my currency on that map"
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

Given the choice between progressing gear and level vs grinding for currency, most players who have not already reached and en game state will obviously choose the latter because is so expensive. Is it the intent for all players to need to invest that much time and effort into building a currency base before they can advance to map play (And leveling past 80)? Or can we find a system where players can progress wealth as well as gear/levels at the same time?

" Sure. - More MF in maps. - Add diminishing returns to MF in maps.
My preferred way of going at it
1. Make maps have IIR as well as IIQ. (+1% IIQ = +2% IIR) 2. Make map MF additive with gear instead of multiplicative. 3. Bonus: Change IIQ to "Increased Orb Quantity", make it only affect currency in order to fix screen clutter and further decrease the gap between the rich and poor. Buff map drop-rates to compensate. " Also Life Leech gem should have -50% IIR/IIQ, and also all ranged gems, and Cleave too, never liked that one. Last edited by exit_zero#4816 on Sep 15, 2013, 11:01:26 AM
