Diablo 3 is happy to admit it has problems and copy POE & other ARPGs to improve.
FWIW, Blizz won't get another penny from me, not while they are asking payment for an expac which contains much of what should have been in vanilla D3. And I won't be playing vanilla again.
So my D3 time is over. I can't defend the poor character building of D3 or the lack of content, but.. I played self found in D3, the AH, to me, was something to pimp my enchantress, I completely ignored it, otherwise. In D3 pre nerf, I struggled in early Act 1 Inf to gear enough to pass the Berserkers, I struggled in late Act 1 to get past the Butcher and be geared enough for Act 2. I struggled in Act 2 in order to gear for Act 3, I was farming Act 3, quite capable of killing Diablo via the 'cheese run' but held off, wanting to be able to slay every monster in my path. That was when the nerfs hit and the game became silly easy. Then came paragon, MP and ubers. I tanked up and reached P100 as an always-full-MF, self found player, my dps was a measly 6k at P0, and still did it in top 500 EU class, top 1000 EU. People wondered how I could beat boss enrage timers with 6k dps, what they didn't know was my 'chantress was doing several times more. By the time I quit last year, my enchantress was hitting every monster in her AoE forceful push for over 600k and AoE DoTing them for about 3 times that with her 5 secs erosion. She was at the point, even before the mass inflation, that upgrading a single piece for her would cost billions. Pre MP, she could solo all Acts and all bosses, post MP she could do so up to about MP4. Well, except Diablo, she never was good at avoiding those cage things. -_-. Of course, as OP as she was, it was minimal contribution at high MPs. I left in December, only popped back to try the crafting and craft the top tier gems for us. This is my self found Barb, in one of his left-field MP10 crushing builds as I left him and shows Eirena at the bottom, pimped to the tits. http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Anuhart-2131/hero/6733900 I can do the same in PoE, quite similarly to D3, I can ignore trade just as I ignored the AHs for my character. I have more build diversity, more options, in PoE, but I never once played WW barb in D3, there was a lot more choice than people think. I have 4 standard ladder characters in PoE, ranging from 82 to 91, they are all self found, they all ignore trade. BUT HERE'S THE THING In D3, when attempting to access content, if the content was too much for me, I farmed content that I was able to, that would improve my character and that was still challenging. My options were AH or challenging content. Once I was geared enough to do all content, I had access to it, I could access challenging content at will. In PoE, when attempting to access content, if the content is too much for me, I farm content that I am able to, that will improve my character and that is still challenging. My options are trade chat/indexers or challenging content. Once I am geared enough to do all content, I find I don't have access to it, my options are trade chat/indexers or farm the hell out of low content for hours and hours and hours to possibly get a sniff at the RNG in the challenging content. THE POINT People remember D3 for its AHs. NEVER, EVER, when trying to access an area in D3, did the game say "AH, lowball faceroll farm for hours and hours, or GTFO!!!" Yet this is exactly what PoE does. Casually casual.

D3's biggest problem for me was the lack of commitment to your character. You couldn't make a mistake, so none of the choices you made mattered. You were more committed to your gear than to your character. That mechanic alone doomed the game for me.

The two games are built for completely different fanbases. D3 is built for the console and MMO generation and PoE is built for the old school aRPG generation, why would they be similar?
People keep talking about character building but to be honest I had way more fun leveling in D3 because of their character system. The ability to swap around as you level makes it a much more fun experience, PoE gets boring by late Cruel because your character is already more or less set in stone and you just do the same thing over and over and over again. On the other hand D3 is pointless to ever level up a 2nd version of the same class, something PoE obviously handles much better. One isn't better than the other, they are just different and each individual prefers one over the other. D3 has tons and tons of players who love it, they just wanted something different from their game than PoE players did. It doesn't mean D3 is trash, it means it wasn't the game you wanted which most likely was a D2 clone, it is a pared down MMO. Having said all that unless they fix the horrible job they did on itemization there is no way I'd ever go back and play D3. The combat is more fun than PoE, leveling is more fun than PoE, but the end game is just garbage and there is no replayability because they chose to focus on the end game only. Unless they actually fix the end game I can't see a reason to play it. |

" ya the random events are something we could do with over here, as are a few more interesting boss fights. The boss fights are getting a look in, the endless zones are obviously being tested via the races, its looking good but I agree the little events are needed too. We are getting rouges in the leagues which adds a little random event spice, but they need to build on that, more little randoms. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

" The only problem D3 has is Jay Wilson. (Fuck that loser btw). Put on your red shoes and dance the blues.

People should get their tenses right.
" Kulle Story, let me have a go with that time machine of yours. You can get hyped all you want. But until Blizzard really delivers (god knows what they will change until that stuff actually hits) all you have are smoke and dreams. “Demons run when a good man goes to war"

" This is so far from true, it is flabbergasting. Here's a clue, 'old school aRPG generation' existed before D2jsp and before every item that anyone in the world ever dropped, was at the hands of everyone else. PoE is built for the 'new school instant gratification generation' and designed in such a way that the 'old school aRPG generation' can GTFO. " If you really fell for the whole JDub thing, you played right into ActiBlizz' hands ;) Casually casual. Last edited by TheAnuhart#4741 on Sep 4, 2013, 9:29:06 AM

" So you are saying the only old school aRPG players are early D2 players? Your definition is just assanine. D1 was built for the rogue like crowd. D2 turned that into an RPG game because that is what was popular at the time. D2 evolved over time into what it is now. Old school aRPG includes all of D2, it includes Titan Quest etc. The bridge between old school and new is probably Torchlight since it was the beginning of a new wave of these games. PoE is definitely more like the older aRPG than the new and it was built for them. The same way the XCOM remake changes things but was obviously built for old school turn based tactical players and not for a new generation of players. PoE was not aimed at the current generation of gamers, it was aimed at the previous generation. D3 was squarly aimed at the current generation of gamers, the 15-25 crowd who grew up on the PS2/PS3, XBOX, MMOs and iOS games. They are aimed at completely different markets and they both succeed within their own markets. Last edited by EnderCN#1614 on Sep 4, 2013, 9:37:24 AM

" Ofcourse these things are game design. AH is not what destroyed D3. 'Legalized' RMT is. Desync is so prevalent in PoE because they have an ultra hard stance on cheatability (in lack of a better word). Gameplay smoothness is part of the design, please don't comment on things you don't understand; you also cannot force this via throwing money at it. Banning forum trolls (like BerMalIst here) is important because they keep away people from the forums and thous improving the game with their feedback. As a side note: Use punctuation please. edit: For the record, there are more things that were incredibly detrimental to D3, but he spoke specifically about the Ah. " That wasn't what I said. " But wait, you just did ~_^ " PoE is aimed squarely at instant gratification, path of least resistance, buy rather than find. You don't get any more 'new school' than that. I think you will find most of your streamers, the ones who love the trade simulator, the rushes, the boosts, the dolly dressing, are in this 15-25 age range. I also think you will find the majority of pissed off aRPGers that don't like this model are the old school aRPGers. Casually casual. Last edited by TheAnuhart#4741 on Sep 4, 2013, 9:44:12 AM
