Razer Footprints is the dumbest marketing I've ever seen...

Rest assured. I think it's pretty clear. Or would you prefer GGG to place a beautiful Header and Footer for sponsors to place their ads? At least you wont see footprints anymore. (Exaggerating here)

There's nothing in the quote you posted to suggest that this won't happen again. It just means whenever Chris finds a company with a logo that he thinks looks niceand he gets on well with the CEO, we can expect to see the logo appearing in Wraeclast.

My guess for next in game ads is Origin (the hardware guys, not the EA store). Smallish company, nice people, been known to promote Razer products, and they have a nice logo that could easily be turned into footprints. Doesn't sound like GGG would have any qualms about doing it.

By the way, I get spammed on TV I paid for

That's unfortunate for you. I don't. I was born in (and grew up in) England where you pay for a BBC licence, and in return you never ever see any third party advertisements on their two main channels. There are 3 free channels that also come with the licence, and yes, they support themselves with advertising spam.

If GGG intends to force in game ads on people then fine, that's up to them. I'd just like them to be clear about whether that's what they plan to do, as they gave no indication in the past that this was their intended business model. If they had, there are many people who would have simply walked away a long time ago.

If you think I'm a fool for understanding/expecting that so be it.

I don't think you're a fool for your opinion, I think you're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine. I do think you're a fool for labeling anyone who disagrees with you as being clueless and not understanding business. GGG have just alienated a large portion of people who have donated money to them, and it sounds like they didn't even get any money in return. If you think that's a good deal, then leave the business advice to people who actually know about it.

There are a few places left where the battle is still worth fighting. One is fantasy worlds, which includes video games, and also books. Imagine if in the next book of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin (or more likely his publisher) placed a real world advert inside the story itself, rather than say on the back cover. The rage over these silly looking footprints would pale in comparison to that which would be unleashed if that were ever to happen. His readers would go nuts, and rightly so.

The footprints obviously aren't at the same level, but I would assert that it's still a minor skirmish worth fighting, even though we'll probably lose.

Cersei finds an Iphone and uses it to text jaime

The rest of the 'end-game' content will be available along with a heap of new stuff when the game launches in a few months time. From what I've seen it's going to be awesome. - Michael_GGG

That is why I said in the 1st place that people who don't understand that has no clue how life works.

If you think I'm a fool for understanding/expecting that so be it.

If a TV movies channel started placing permanent ads in the black letterbox bars, would that be a channel you'd keep watching? I'd have no issue with ads in the loading or login screens, but to place them in the actual game is completely tasteless and unnecessary.

I wouldn't want to read that text!
They know now it was a mistake. Won't ever happen again. I also think they will change it to where no log will be shown. I don't mind it nor care myself. But for the gaming community it does need to be changed I guess.

Good they got the sponser though grats to them.

If that's the case, what possible reason could they have for not saying so? It would end this whole thing so we could just put it all behind us.
I wont mind it unless bloody EVERYBODY has them. Then it would drive me crazy.

Otherwise, the footprints match the in game Mauri art and Razor is a gaming company. If they start advertising cola or smeg household appliances, then Im out.

Once again, GGG gets NO MONEY out of this deal. Chris himself has said so.

So tell me, who are the real winners here? Everyone in the ARPG community has heard of PoE by word of mouth. Fans of other genres don't care or won't play. Not everyone in the ARPG community has heard of Razer. So who got the better end of the deal if it even was one?

GGG sure didn't. Many against this who would've contributed for a long time to come now are in doubt and are hesitant to support. I hope those of you who so vehemently defend this deal have studied financial accounting because customer goodwill CAN be valued and so can a brand or logo.

..and if you haven't then don't talk out of your buttocks.

It's product placement. Bottom line. One of the main reasons we play this game is for the hardcore realism of the environment. Leaving behind footprints of fire or blood was a cool idea that added to the environment: footprints leaving company logos... not so cool.
