OR - we can look at things objectively and haven't made GGG into some, I don't even know what... hero of the gaming world? They aren't, they are a company and they need partners and when you need partners you do things for them and they do things for you.
I think GGG have a made a lot of dumb decisions with the game mechanics, but this wasn't one of them.
They now have a team of 40 people or so.. average out the pay for all of those people, the server costs, development costs, infrastructure costs etc... do you think *all* of that can be funded purely by people buying cosmetic effects? I never did, even when I gave them a grand. I figured they would surely team with other companies in the gamie/indie community, and that some way or another we'd see that in game. I really think they should partner somehow with the guys doing GrimDawn as well. At any rate, when I saw this announcement my initial thought was - it's about time.
Didn't LoL partner with some chat company or something recently? did the fans erupt over that as well? Oh right it was American express.

You've missed the point of people's concerns by a wide margin. I'll use the example you provided to illustrate the point. Racecars are supposed to be covered in logos. In the real world, there would be no issue with it, and in an in game world, it would ad to the realism.
Wraeclast is a magical fantasy land. The GGG logo looks nice, they could put it on the wall of Lioneyes Inn. Know why they won't? Because even GGG itself doesn't exist inside Wraeclast.
You keep repeating that it's just snakes. Fine, either you don't understand what a logo is and how it works, or you're simply unfamiliar with the brand. Good for you. The thing is, when people see the logo, they aren't supposed to think of snakes, they are supposed to think of Razer products, that's the whole point of it being there. It's sole purpose on the floor of Wraeclast is to make you think about the company it represents, a company that isn't even supposed to exist in Wraeclast in the first place.
Edit: And as for the claims being made that this isn't even a paid advert, I would be disappointed beyond words if that turns out to be the case.

they should hve flags with pepsi logos and mountain dew flasks
mayb then we wont be given skill gems such as reave...
The rest of the 'end-game' content will be available along with a heap of new stuff when the game launches in a few months time. From what I've seen it's going to be awesome. - Michael_GGG

If there was a giant AMEX logo in the map I bet the fan base would have went berserk. As it is Riot Logos and characters on an Amex card is an apples to oranges comparison.

OAK BROOK, ILLINOIS--(Reuters - September 2, 2013) - McDonalds (NYSE: MCD), the largest fast food corporation in the world, has announced a deal to acquire Grinding Gear Games, a small New Zealand based video game studio known for its up-and-coming action role-playing game "Path of Exile."
"Research has showed us that the demographics of video game players and the demographics of our customers are very similar," stated Don Thompson, CEO of McDonalds. "We feel that this deal will benefit both of our companies."
"I'm very exited about McDonalds' investment in our company," Chris Wilson, one of the original founders of Grinding Gear Games, said. "This infusion of cash will ensure that Path of Exile will be an exciting game for years to come."
In the upcoming 11.6 patch, players of Path of Exile will begin to see the effects of the deal. Players will be able to venture into a new dungeon named McDonald Land, in Act 3 of the game, which takes place in the ruined City of Sarn. There, they will encounter new monsters unique to that area, and have a chance at finding the mysterious Big Mac Orb.

You have no idea who you are speaking to or what they do for a living, so making statements like this is silly and makes you look foolish.
pneuma hit the nail on the head in the previous page: People pay, in part, because they hope it means they won't have to see company logos spammed all over Wraeclast. If they donate thousands of dollars and still have to see advertising spam, they won't go on to donate thousands more dollars. That means GGG is running a very serious risk of simply bringing in a short term revenue injection at the expense of a long term revenue stream. Don't tell me I don't know business simply for pointing out the absurdity and short sightedness of this.
To people who are saying immesrion doesn't matter: The number of things Chris and GGG have refused to compromise on in the name of maintaining immersion and staying true to their vision of Wraeclast is astonishing, and in the past has been inspiring. It's sad that you "supporters" don't even realize this vision existed to begin with, but understandable given the circumstances :(
I'm sorry, but from my point of view you got it wrong and there is no nail to hit. As you can see I also contributed to the game by buying the Gold and Exalted Packs and I don't feel a dime entitled to it. Doesn't change the fact that it is a free to play game even if you buy tha Ruler of Wreaclast. GGG needs more income that's it. If it was a subscription or retail game it would be different and in game ads would be too much.
So remember something, we are all equal. You won't receive any special treatment because "you" paid. There is no nail to hit.
