Some more testing of v3.5beta wrapper:

As I mentioned earlier, if I use this 3.5beta wrapper as it is, the mouse pointer becomes invisible after each click. Makes gameplay a bit too challenging for my taste.

So what I did to address this issue was changing Screen Options in Wineskin.app. I experimented a bit and found that the best setup so far for me is to check Override, then under Override check Fullscreen (use Current Resolution) and Force normal windows. I also unchecked Auto Detect GPU Info for Direct3D (this should show your GPU correctly ingame, but can't tell whether it makes any difference).

I did try other settings as well. Some combinations gave horrible slideshow performance, stuttering music or the game screen was off centre. I tried virtual desktop too, but that slightly decreased performance and also the game just died with no warning after 20 minutes of play.

Then, maybe now it is my turn to be stupid but I can not enable Option key to work as Alt (I have checked in Options, yes), nor can I use Cmd+Enter to min/max the screen.

After I found the suitable screen settings I thought the game was working quite nicely. Until this

That's it for now.

Sorry but that was the impression I got from the last line in the text that I quoted about you trying -nosound and saying GGG was still trying to work it out on their side. As this is not an official port any problems with playing this on a Mac are not going to be addressed by GGG unless/until they do an official port. Wasn't trying to offend you just to clarify for anyone who read your comment and assumed you meant what I thought you meant.

*EDIT:

So I went and copied my old content.ggpk folder from the previous wrapper as explained by Krifinn(sorry if I got the name wrong) and pasted it into the directory with the new wrapper overwriting the content.gpk file that was there. Then I started the game and it started updating to the latest patch and it downloads the last 7MB I am missing then I got the error "Error opening file: Content.ggpk". Any thoughts?

*edit again
Tried copying the entire GGG folder from within the old wrapper to the new one and still have the same issue.

When I said, "I guess it's just a bug they're still trying to work out on the GGG side of it all," that means it's a problem with the game itself, an issue GGG is having with the game code, and not a problem julus has any control over with the WINE port. If you follow the link that julus posted in response to me, you'll see that some Windows users are also having the same problem.

Also, this isn't a "port" of Path of Exile to Mac in the traditional sense. WINE is an in between program that allows Windows programs to run on Unix systems using the original Windows .dll files. While it isn't a full virtualization layer such as Parallels or VMWare, it is for the most part doing the same thing to allow the Windows application (Path of Exile) to run on Mac. Julus isn't actually porting the game to Mac, or in anyway changing the game's code, he's optimizing a build of the WINE engine to run Path of Exile efficiently. The game that you download and run is the exact same code and files that would run on Windows, and thus inherits the same bugs.

Anyway, does the game still load from the original install? Or are you getting the "Error opening file: Content.ggpk" there too? If not the only thing I can think of is a bad sector on your hard drive,, but hopefully not. You could try copy/pasting the entire GGG folder from the old Program Files into the new one, or downloading the whole game again. Maybe someone else has a better idea though.

krifFinn, i'm having the same Option key bug with 3.5beta so I don't think anything you changed could have affected it.

Uh, I don't think the wrapper has that Content.ggpk by default. It is downloaded when you open the wrapper for the first time. It can also be moved from previous wrapper. So I don't know what you replaced there.

I had that error as well today when I tried to laund PoE after the error I described in my previous post. Maybe the file was corrupt so I threw it in the bin and downloaded the whole thing again. Thanks to my connection it only takes around 20 minutes :)

Curiously, even after downloading the content file again I still got that error once. Tried to relaunch and now it works again.

Edited Them typos

EDIT2 OK then, PoptartOnRye, Thanks.

I followed your directions in the post a few pages back by right clicking, show contents, went into the c drive, program files, etc. That is what I meant by the wrapper. Then I copied it to the new install by going through the same route. I can just redownload it. Won't be as fast as yours but won't take me all day either.

*Edit:

Complete redownload and the same issue with the content.ggpk file.

And I am an idiot and never rebooted the laptop and now after rebooting it and redownloading the last 7.22MB it launches the game. Sigh, I know better then that.

*crashed when I tried to summon skeletons.

Please would someone help me step by step how to install and run POE on my Imac ?

Thanks a lot !

The file you download in the OP is a .dmg file, which is sort of like a zipped file. If you double click it, it will mount it as if it were a CD or a DVD you inserted into your Mac. If it doesn't open a new Finder window for you, it will put a disk icon on your desktop, and/or in the left panel of a Finder window. There will be a Path of Exile file inside, with the game's icon, drag this out to where ever you want it, most likely your Applications folder. Double click it, and let it download and install the game for you.

Thank you so much !!
Finally ! game installed and running.
It was a small window, I tried the cmd and enter and nothing happened. Kept trying then when i clicked cmd was item highlight or something.
When I wanted to manually stretch the window the game froze :(
