Torchlight 2, anyone going to buy it?

It really shows that the creators of Diablo is lingering in Runic Games.

Having a blast in the game, and it feels like i am playing Diablo, the action, the music, how the money drops down and the sounds.

And by saying "it feels like i am playing Diablo". I mean i feel that i am playing a ARPG made by the creators of Diablo. Cause they do the ARPG genera justice.

Still, makes me allot more excited to see how PoE will turn out at the end :)

I have to say TL2 combat feels much more responsive, fast-paced and fun than POE.

IMO core gameplay is still the weakpoint for POE in the ARPG genre; it's not fast enough, movement still feels (relative to other big titles) clunky, and skills are still not responsive enough.

If those are improved up to the standards that D3 and TL2 set, then POE would be more or less perfect.

I hear that from all my friends, but I just can't understand it at all.
Yesterday evening I played PoE and T2 back to back for some time. In PoE all attack animations ar 2x-5x faster, the delay between a click and the attack is shorter, and when I hit a group of enemies with an aoe attack, I can really feel hitting every single enemy, while in T2 I feel like I attacked the ground, and then, oh, also, some enemies died.

Hearing this from basically anyone though, means it's true and I just don't/can't notice it. I really have no clue why D3 or T2 would be more responsive or fast paced, least of all more fun than PoE.

I think the biggest problem I have with it is that it's TOO easy. Even bumping up the difficulty, doesn't really.

I too feel spoiled by the loot/currency/skill systems here. POE took what I loved about D2, built upon and improved it and a game that is stuck in that dated architecture seems like a step back now.

It's fun and def have no regrets about spending $20 on it

Yeah, same for me. The difficulty is just completely off. Not challenging, and when it tries to, it's the wrong kind of challenging. Statwise challenging.
Having played 90 hours of Dark Souls over the last month this is pretty much unbearable.
I do regret paying 20$ for it right now.

It's fun for now. But the skill system is really horrible so I doubt I will play it for long.

Funny you should say that, considering the skill system in Torchlight 2 is pretty much identical to the one in Diablo 2. ;)

I agree with the people who thinks TL2 is too easy, though. True, I'm only lvl 15 so far, but I have only died three times so far. Two of those times were because I was too tired to pay attention to my health.

But that said, Torchlight 2 does have an important feature PoE doesn't: Mod support. If you look at the official forums, there are already plans for at least two new classes, an entire Torchlight 1 'remake', a sequel to Diablo 2, more pets and so on. Oh, and yes, the kiwis in PoE are nice, but TL2 lets me have a cat, a few dogs, a weesel, a bird, a dragon thingy and so on. All with at least two color schemes, and as I said, fans are adding more through mods. I bet 50 bucks in a random currency that we'll see a higher difficulty level in TL2 anncounced pretty darn soon after the editor is released, too. ;) Can you do any of that, PoE? ;)

Well, D2 has a bad skill system aswell. But TL2s is far worse.
Pick one offensive skill and some defensive skill that you will be stuck spamming for the rest of the game and put the rest of the points into the passive skills.
Leveling is even more boring than in PoE.
It really makes you realise how amazing the skill system in D3 really is. There you can try new stuff as you go along, and there is a whole lot more to try out aswell.

I agree, PoE has more depth for customization. Skills, talents, gear. You can match all 3 with more freedom. This can get you hooked for year.
TL2 has moddability to increase lifespan, but that is yet to be seen how well will work in the coming months.
With that said, TL2 combat does fell more responsive, but that is something that PoE can catch up. We are in beta after all, and i dont see OB coming sooner than 2013.
Many thanks to fantazmat for the beta key!

...My god, PoE really spoiled me.
1 year ago, I would have had so much fun with this, but now I'm only craving the excitement of the more complex, long term systems you have in PoE, like crafting gear for stats and slots, organizing the active skills and how they are supported.

T2 controls are good, although it has some points that annoy me as hell, like the weapon swap that doesn't react during attack animations (I don't use weapon swap here, so that occured to me) and the very bad pathfinding of the player, instead of direct pure directional input.
But everything BEHIND the actual slaying of monsters just bores me.

It is THE purest, best and most polished hack/slay/loot game I've ever played, but in 2012 that isn't enough anymore.

Thanks to PoE.
GGG, I love/hate you for making me hate this game :)

100% agree with all of this, I too would of likely loved TL2 several months ago, but once I started PoE I find little enjoyment from TL2, PoE has so much depth, complexity and characterization, that as you said, it has spoilt me.

PoE has the most potential I have seen in a game for a long time. Keep up the great work GGG
Well, now I'm sad. Not quite broken-heart sad, but not far frm it, either. And as I post in this thread, you can guess the reason. Yeah, that's right. Torchlight 2. :(

I was very interested in it, especially as it's from many of the people behind Diablo 2. I really wanted it to work. When I finally got it, it was awesome. I loved every part of it. I still do, in most ways. There are just two problems. One small, one game breaking.

The small one is the difficulty levels. I didn't even bother try Casual, but went for Normal. After reaching lvl 15 (killing several mini-bosses and one normal boss along the way), I hadn't died even once. What I did have was tons of Rare and several Unique items before lvl 10. Sigh... it's like jedi. There were only five of them in the old Star Wars-movies (including Darth Vader and the Emperor), which made them really special. But there are tons of them in the prequels, making jedis meaningless. "I'm a jedi! Wohoo!" "Yeah, so are the twenty people over there." What we need are less rares and better gear, but make them more useful. Finding a Rare item should be fun. It should be hard to find (being "rare" and all...), but in return, it should most likely be better than the one we have. Uniques should be hard to find, but very powerful. Legendaries should be very hard to find, but much better than even uniques. That's what makes them "legendary" in the first place.

But anyway, that's just a small issue. The game-breaking thing are the players. We are allowed to mod the game, so apparently 90% of the players thinks it means cheating is encouraged. It's only been a few days, and yet the game is already ruined. The worst part is Runic don't care. Modding is allowed, so hacking your character is legal. Players are making threads on the official forums on how to cheat in the game, dupe items, hack their characters and all that, and Runic isn't doing anything to stop them. Don't they see they are ruining the game?

I guess the point in mentioning this is to ask you players to be respectful to other players, and keep cheating to a minimum in PoE. And yes, I know it's a small, free game, but GGG, can you please strike down hard on cheating? Cheating is really bad. It has already ruined TL2, so don't let it ruin PoE too. :(

anyone has beta key for Neverwinter with TL2?
TL2 is a great game. I'm having a lot of fun with it and haven't really been playing PoE that much lately (although that's partly because I'm waiting for open beta).

I still think PoE is a bit better overall, but I think the fluidity of the combat and the game performance is top notch in TL2. The aesthetics didn't really appeal to me when I first played, but it grew on me. Kudos to Runic for a job well done.
