Torchlight 2, anyone going to buy it?
I bought the game yesterday, although I didn't plan to until 2 hours before that.
Then I played about 6 hours that night. I started in Veteran (3/4 difficulty) and was bored after some time, because I just breezed through anything without any problem. For the first 15 minutes I even forgot I had a special attack, because my normal attack and my pet killed everything on sight quicker than I could look. In those 2 hours I used about 2 potions. I think I remember 2, could be less. Then I restarted on Elite, same class, same build, it all just took a bit longer, and one of the bosses did enough damage so that I died a few times and had to swallow a few potions, but only because his attack had a range and form that hit me at random, if I didn't keep so much distance that I couldn't attack myself. But most bossfights, or fights against bigger enemies were literally me targeting the enemy with my cannnon, and holding down the left mouse button while standing still. And waiting for the fight to be over. Elite wasn't harder, it just somehow got more boring and took longer, that's why I switched back to Veteran. Now, compared to PoE, this felt like a fast food slash fest. Click some enemies, take better loot, or not, because it really doesn't matter all that much, because loot just differs in better/not better, and as long as you go into the rough direction of better, you're fine for everything to come. Then you just run through the enemies until they're dead. Occasionally you get items as quest rewards, that are slighty better, but just as boring as anything you can find. My god, PoE really spoiled me. 1 year ago, I would have had so much fun with this, but now I'm only craving the excitement of the more complex, long term systems you have in PoE, like crafting gear for stats and slots, organizing the active skills and how they are supported. T2 controls are good, although it has some points that annoy me as hell, like the weapon swap that doesn't react during attack animations (I don't use weapon swap here, so that occured to me) and the very bad pathfinding of the player, instead of direct pure directional input. But everything BEHIND the actual slaying of monsters just bores me. It is THE purest, best and most polished hack/slay/loot game I've ever played, but in 2012 that isn't enough anymore. Thanks to PoE. GGG, I love/hate you for making me hate this game :) EDIT: Oh and for the comparison above, mine looks pretty much exactly like the order of how much I like them :) Diablo III: 0$ Torchligh 2: 18$ Grim Dawn: 39$ PoE: 115$ Last edited by golem09#3277 on Sep 21, 2012, 10:11:02 AM

Enjoying the game too much now.
Had to stop both my summoner and my elemental bow shadow to play it sadly. The game captures you from the first 5 minutes and it never feels slow at the start and even though that POE skill system is way better this one felt more fast paced. FFA loot = Single Player Game

" Well, put it like this: Even with double price, it's still cheaper than most games like Diablo 3, and it's one of the best ARPGs ever made. Totally worth the extra bit. And for that matter, I've already paid more for PoE than one copy of TL2, and PoE is free. ;) "And that's how you die properly, sailor boy."

Pre-ordered it, started playing yesterday and like it, but don't 'ZOMG LOVE IT!' Same with GW2, pre-ordered it, started playing at head start and 2 weeks later was totally bored with it. :\ It's not bad or anything, just not the super addictive, gotta play-it games of yore.
It's fun but not 'addictive' nearly like POE was that first few days/weeks. Pretty easy to turn it off only 2 days into it. I think the biggest problem I have with it is that it's TOO easy. Even bumping up the difficulty, doesn't really. I too feel spoiled by the loot/currency/skill systems here. POE took what I loved about D2, built upon and improved it and a game that is stuck in that dated architecture seems like a step back now. It's fun and def have no regrets about spending $20 on it but I'll be playing POE more over the coming 6 months than TL2. That's my $.02 anyway. Love you guys @GGG, thanks for pushing the envelope. When so many companies are disappointing, you guys are innovating and delivering something fun and exciting. Cheers, B |

It's fun for now. But the skill system is really horrible so I doubt I will play it for long.

" That was my experience in the beta. I'm not sure how much it's changed since then but I actually found myself yearning for Torchlight 1's more open-ended class system, where making a fighter out of an Alchemist wasn't all that difficult. TL2 felt a lot more constrictive there, but I acknowledge the potential of mods. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

Ugh, too many nice games now. I want to finish Borderlands 2 before buying something else, though I'm already a bit disappointed with it. Torchlight 1 was fun for like 6 hours but not any longer, I just got bored of it very quickly.

I have to say TL2 combat feels much more responsive, fast-paced and fun than POE.
IMO core gameplay is still the weakpoint for POE in the ARPG genre; it's not fast enough, movement still feels (relative to other big titles) clunky, and skills are still not responsive enough. If those are improved up to the standards that D3 and TL2 set, then POE would be more or less perfect. [Hardcore league]
