ES nerf and consequences - discuss
Hi,
As you know the new patch will nerf the 3 ES nodes behind CI and the "infused shield" after these. A simple example for illustration: (skip this if you already know what the change implies) ====================================================================================== Let'say you have 2.000 base ES from gear and a total "increased max ES" from the passive tree of 2.0. This means your ES would be: 2.000 x (1 + 2.0) = 6.000 ES The 3 "increased max ES nodes" are lowered by 2% each after the patch resulting in a total loss of 6%. This is not very problematic because they are additive. Nerf step 1: 2.000 x (1 + (2-0.06)) = 5.880 ES But this becomes more problematic when infused shield comes into play. Infused shield is multiplicative, so it is applied after every other form of ES increase. You can simply multiply your final [after "increased max ES" nodes] value by it. Infused shield was lowered by 0.08 from 1.2 to 1.12. Nerf step 2: 5.880 x (1 + 1.12) = 6.586 ES In comparison, without the nerf the result with today's values would be: 6.000 x 1.2 = 7.200 ES. ====================================================================================== The difference is ~ 614 ES. Now is that significant? It's more than half of the HP of Kaom's heart. So yes, it is significant. Especially for melee CI builds. Less for ranger/caster builds and not at all for low life ES builds. Imo a much better approach would have been to buff life somehow, maybe by adding items with higher base life. CI is still playable, especially as a caster because you don't need many damage nodes. But as a melee char you cannot get around the whole tree that easily. You really goin to cry for around 10% ES loss?
ES is way too strong compared to Life. Even after this patch... |

" Then buff life. No need to nerf ES. | |
As a first time CI player currently with only entry-level gear, this nerf does not jive well with me. I only have 3600 ES as it stands and I'm level 77. I've picked up every ES node I could in my build and I'm struggling. Maybe it's my inexperience with ES (I've always been life+EB in all my previous builds) or maybe it's my gear but this will only make things worse for me. I feel like this nerf hurts players like me more than the higher end players with 9 or 10K ES like it was intended. Just my opinion.
My name is Statik and I'm an Altaholic. I need to make new builds. Just for try for see and for know.

yes i think its a totally wrong wrong move , ci melee will get fucked hard and casters dont really care imo ( i dont), Shavronne will be even more expensive and that is the worst thing here imo.I wanted to try a low life build damn it :(.
Do i think Ci needs a small nerf?Yes Does it make life more attractive? Nope.... Buff the god damn life !! The right way to do is defenses/life hybrid nodes like the es/ar es/eva nodes and the ranger node , moar of them plsss. If GGG wants to balance the whole thing they have to review the stat points , imo thats the best way to target specific chars .Can a melee and a caster go ci ? Yes Whats the difference? The stats A melee ci duelist surely has less int than a caster and therefore he gets less es than a witch , if they nerfed es gained from int however the ci duelist with less int would be less affected than the witch. The whole thing would work with all the other issues , if the life gained from str would be increased hp chars overall would have a buff but melee would be affected more than the range classes. Just my 2 cents and i hope they kinda learn from these mistakes and they do better in the future. Game? Who needs to play the game? Let face reality the developers don't know how to balance the game. It's one bad decision after another. Watching them try to fix PoE is very painful, IMO.

Obviously i haven't seen the results in game yet and the nerf is fairly insignificant, but as a 'mostly selffound player' i can't help but feel that this is an example of one of the worst things that can happen in arpgs: balancing around the auction house... err ease and overreliance on trade and listening to the unwashed masses - ES most definitely could use some rebalancing at the top end, but tinkering with the percentages (slightly) and nerfing CI in general amplifies problem that folks with entry-level or average gear face when going CI - Is life weak when compared to the top end? yes, certainly - Does CI scale terribly and only becomes instantly overpowered if you heavily focus on trade? I think so, yes. - Does this change mean that pretty much nothing changes for folks that switch to bought endgame gear yet might make it even more tedious for people that minimize trade? My gut says yes - Wrong approach to the problem in my opinion - But i'll wait untill i see it in game untill i really form an opinion.

" Do you know what's wrong with the game? Mana Resources, bad placement of nodes, bad crafting, bad defense system, bad upgrade path, desync etc. Lets take defense. Why did the community suddenly go for ES? Before patch .11 there were players that either went with life or ES. Now everybody is going for ES because ES is the better of the two. So what did they do? Nerf ES. Nerf defense even more. I predicted this. I predicted the developers will waste their time trying to fix/rebalance patch .11. It's a big fucking mess. CI nerf = low life buff
The change is rly dumb and i dont get it why they do this this way. And as usual the nerf affects low geared players way more. Just L O L :O English is my third language, there will be bugs.
