The pay to win Situation / PTW players
A comment from nooblet here.
A bit of stats: I play since OB, 2-4 hours almost each day, with some days off. I have 12x lvl 30-55 chars on Standart league. I have 2 chars on Anarchy, primary one is lvl 74, just fresh into maps (67-68), a whole new experience for me; the other is lvl 45. During this time I've seen 2 ex drop for me, and sold a good found rare and a q20 gem for 1 ex each. I've maybe found 2-3 ex worth in lower currencies total. I've found maybe 20 uniques, most of which I sold on trade chat for 1 chaos, with exception of Malachai's Simula, for which I got a whopping GCP. I don't farm (except for safe xp when close to level-up) or try to run a lot of MF gear (my "top" MF char has 20 IIQ + 70 IIR, lol). My current total worth in items and currency in both leagues is roughly 10-15 EX max. I think I'm f...n rich! I can afford good items for all my chars that make them enjoyably playable in Merc, in fact I buy good roll gear for them all the time. Not even once the thought of unfair RNG or PtW has crossed my mind. The secret? 1. It's JUST A GAME. Just play it, and the good stuff will come to you. You'll never be able to compete with the top 5%, and if you can, you won't be writing in this thread complaining, you'd be running maps eith the best of them instead :P. 2. I will never buy a Shavronne's or Kaom's or Andy or Dream Fragments or 800+ ES 6L (I might buy Lioneye's though :P). Why? Because the only reason those items are in high demand is that people see those cookie-cutter gear-dependent gears and decide that it's all they want, not even trying to look around for more viable, cheaper and more FUN alternatives, both build-wise and gear-wise. 3. Trading is key. I spend rougly 1/4-1/3 of my online time trading (selling my loot, that is, not flipping, or looking for best upgrades for my toons). Most of my wealth came from trading, hundreds of alchs/fus from gems, dozens of chaoses from selling decent rares. Most of that wealth is usually spent on upgrades that actually cost a reasonable amount of currency. So, my thought is that the people complaining about PtW and RMT are most likely lazy whiners who don't want to put just a *bit* of effort and heart into the game, and in fact ARE the prime clientelle for RMT sites, just trying to calm their conscience with complaints like "everyone is multiboxing/maphacking/duping/using RMT/etc, so I guess I'll do that as well". |

farming 4-6 hours a night for months on end is not what a modern game should be, i have a life, i have a job a gf, friends, responsibilities, obligations etc
i can only imagine if you had kids you would maybe squeeze in an hour a week at most of you were any kind of responsible parent this game is for unemployed people or people who RMT or people who have a dungeon in their basement and never see the light of day while their mum brings them snacks its frustrating because its fun to play but i feel like im missing out on most of the game |

Yes, RNG can be (and mostly, is) very punishing and frustrating. And the "side-effects" of all that dumb BIS-demands dont make the situation better at all... but this
" is just seriously ridiculous idiotic and ignorant. Not every game is (or even should be) made for everyone. Why should people that can and will 'sacrifice' a lot of their time to a game they like, people that accept and/or like to be challenged and even punished by a game, people that LIKE meaningful decisions be forced to play 'tetris' or the 'mindless' straight-forward easypeasy game YOU think to have to call "modern"?!? If you dont like Canasta or Bridge, stick with Rummy or even Uno... invited by timer @ 10.12.2011

"Having a kid" is such an excuse... not.
Everything in life, not just children, demands effort in order to acheve something meaningful at it. Since your time is limited, you decide on priorities. If family matters take up a lot of your time (and they should), and it cuts into your gaming time, it's not a fault of the game that it provides un-satisfying return on your modest investment. And again, to stress my points: 1. The game is fun as it is, even if given only 1-2 hours of daily gameplay. Just don't expect to bathe in exalts and have a Kaom's for each day of the week to wear. 2. In you want to see at least *some* wealth, you don't need to farm or scam or RMT, you just need to play smart and trade a bit, is all. |
