People would still "ninja" maps in an instanced setting. The mechanics would be different, however the end result is the EXACT same. You opened a map, and did not get the/any maps that dropped inside of it. There is NO DIFFERENCE.

I think what ghostlight is hoping for is an instanced setting so that people aren't as afraid to open maps to the public. Ya its still possible to not get a map but so what there are still other games to join.

This is a little hard to understand and I expect a lot of questions but I think I get what he is saying. In an instanced setting I would open up my maps as well (except the high level ones). I would still get relatively the same amount of low level maps and if one dropped for me there would be NO chance of it being ninjaed.

If many other players think like me then there would be more open public games and Ghostlight wouldn't be as scared about running out of maps.

I haven't given this a whole lot of thought so feel free to challenge me on it.

That's kind of my point though. Even you admit you wouldnt open up your high lvl maps. Because the mechanics, or at least end result, would be the same.

There are plenty of pub map groups, they just fill up instantaneously. I often see them on the boards whenever I look. I don't join them, but that's because I don't need to. When I opened one up last night, it.filled up in less than 5 seconds. Thus, being taken off the board.

Saying theres none on the board is pointless. Only GGG can determine how many are actually up.
I only wouldn't open my highest level maps because they are so important to the end game and require investment. I wouldn't risk losing high level maps in any loot system.

Standard Forever
I'll just drop my suggestions on the stack... Players who pick up loot that was not assigned them should be marked on the party interface. This way group leaders can have an easier time enforcing their own rules.

One of the things about the whole cut-throat style that appeals to me is giving group leaders and members more information about what's going on around them and some kind of power over their followers to discourage ninja looting and other ungentelmanly behaviour while at the same time preventing them from making groups just to grief people. For instance it would be nice if a party leader could select the style of looting themselves.

Guild features and expanded party features would definitely help calm the loot storm.
Another cool idea would be to gather some metrics about players and their looting. I would love to be able to show how many times a certain type of item has dropped for me but i wasn't able to pick it up as well as how many items i picked up that werent assigned to me.

In a true cut-throat world groups do form, make their own rules. There are good AND bad people. To enhance the experience users need more tools and information. Because it's the person who knows how to find, create, and use these things that is successful in a cutthroat world.

I'm pretty sure he was talking about high-level maps not the ordinary 66 that are basically crap.
In my experience so far i havent saw even 1 high level map on pub.

Doubtful. Considering he only has 3 maps.

Also, I would never expect to see a high level pub group. FFA or instanced. Even if one were to open, it would be filled in a heartbeat, so it would be taken off of noticeboard immediately.
Well won't you look at that, it seems they have been listening to this thread.

Base timers have been extended by 1 second, and names have been removed from the timer.

I'd like to point out that every one of these changes I've seen suggested outside of this thread.

I've updated the first post to include a link to these patch notes so that people will know where to post feedback about the loot system from here on if they want any chance to be read by a dev.

If you want to just keep ranting and attacking each other and arguing, this thread shall suffice for that. :)
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

with 846 pages i really doubt this'll even be read, but can't FFA loot just be a party option..?

I understand that the devs want to keep this competitive looting system in the game, but is there really a reason for it not to be optional when creating a party?

Sure theres people who favor this system, but the truth is that a lot of us don't, i for example simply don't party up with random people and don't do public maps as a result of the system.

This is a true shame as in online games, i think playing together and the social aspects of it increase It's replay value an incredible amount, community is usually key to me.

It's nice that GGG follows their own vision, and you've created an absolutely amazing game doing so, but the loot system just seems archaic at best, i want to be able to play with my friends and not worry about who gets which pieces of loot, i want to play with them because It's an enjoyable experience, not because it increases the amount of loot we get.

I hope that GGG sees their fault in this despite those people who support the FFA system and sooner or later we will have a party option to OPT out of it.

Sorry, i wholeheartedly understand It's a good thing for developers not to cave in to the forum minority, but in this subject i doubt we stand alone.

This looting system only results in 1 acktion for me!

I always solo! after I lost my first unique I was out!

Is that really the way GGG wants the game to go ? everyone soloing, nice multiplayer game!!!

Make it poseble for leader when he makes the party to choose ffa, timer or D3 style!!

Then ppl can join groups they feel best with!

Fair and easy everyone is happy!
