Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
" Everyone has different priorities... Like i said even when i play alone i grab drops the moment they hit the ground. Does that mean im playing wrong? |

" ... but you called every person here a 'whiner' when we did exactly as you just stated. You get the few that say "he stole my loot. please fix" , but those people you need to ignore because they aren't giving constructive criticism at all. " Everyone has different loot preferences as well. Hence why it is a GOOD thing to implement. Sure, it may remove the loot competition that GGG was hoping every player faced, but you know what? People hide in friends only groups or solo anyway. The people who get hurt are the people who are forced to pub it up. Loot competition may be a sweeter deal if they first fixed the servers to be more stable/less laggy, as well as any desync skills/issues (well as much as they can), and then finally remove timers. It would maybe be fun if the system worked as intended, but it just isn't working for me. I would rather just have instanced loot for now. Options just seems like a good compromise to me for now. " I share this thought. Cutthroat is a fine idea, but the dynamics of the game means often loot assigned to players is blocked off by obstacles and other players, but the timer accounts only for distance. I lost an exalted orb (the only one I have ever seen) because another player, the player that picked it up, had me blocked. I'm thinking uniques and high level orbs and such should be assigned (or be on a longer timer, like 20 seconds scale). Loot should be a reward for the effort. At the end of a gaming session people should be filled with a sense of accomplishment, not upset by a sudden change of fortune. The only excuse for not picking up something earned should be, "I didn't want it." (AFK is not an excuse) There should be a penalty for players who join parties, hardly fight, only because they are looking to loot, and having a much longer timer does penalize them. IRL, someone stealing a hunter's/predator's kill/loot has other penalties (such as a fight to the death, which will be great in hardcore league, but please not HC). The longer timer as penalty for loot ninjas would work great; if a player doesn't fight so they can focus on loot, then they will find less loot assigned to them and timers that last well after the fight is over, leaving them with nothing but magics and whites. The current system isn't truly cutthroat, it just supports loot whoring and ninja pickups. 8 Bit Tarvernite Last edited by Bucyrus#4926 on Mar 14, 2013, 4:38:42 AM

OP it sucks! It's not fair to ranged or low HP characters. It's creates hate and discontent for players and it's a good way to ruin a community. Either increase the timer or close view of high level orbs, rares, and legendary s. Loot hacks will be coming if they are not around already.
In another thread concern, I was told that players standing on your loot will not allow you to pick it up. This is outrageous and unacceptable. This elitist game development and once again catering to tank style characters is bull shit. It's the one thing D3 got right. |

" Not fair to ranged/low hp characters... You should try and position yourself better as a ranged character. I got 2 ranged characters and they have no trouble keeping up with the loot as it is currently, I'm not even experiencing the loot blocking that you talk about. Sometimes I have to click my loot twice, sure, but that's because of pathing issues more likely. That someone has low HP, because he/she consciously decided to go full glass cannon and therefor needs to rely on others to tank for you, is their problem tbh. About the priority of looting or fighting. I always see people fight > loot > fight > loot. I never see anyone just standing around all day doing nothing. Another voice against current FFA loot system in parties. If there is one single thing D3 nailed right is "your loot is your own" system. There is nothing wrong with implementing a good idea from another game. Loot to name for Unique/Rare/Gem/Orb will be suffice.
Really, look what D3 did become only because Jay "F that Looser" Wilson tried to re-invent the wheel. Please, we do not need another company who "instructs" what is fun for us. At least, let us allow to create public parties with FFA or Loot to Name option. That way everyone would be happy (except maybe dedicated haters). |

" PoE doesn't re-invent the wheel, it keeps the same wheel and adds to it instead. It is more like D2 than D3 will ever be. They have the right to make a game however they want, if it's not fun for you because certain stuff from some failed game is not in this game, too bad. Least of all, they´re not instructing anyone. I haven't heard GGG say they didn´t do or add something, because they didn't think it was "fun", unlike J F t L Wilson. They just make the game they have in mind. " Just to be clear, D3 wasn't the 1st game to use that loot system. It's been around for longer. Just wanted to mention if someone were concerned about copying D3 too much. 8 Bit Tarvernite Last edited by Bucyrus#4926 on Mar 14, 2013, 4:31:50 AM
