Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
" Well it would be an improvement compared to this current system. Also i agree on phones and annoying keyboards, -.- i have to spend as much time correcting my text in them as i take the time to write them lol. |

" I honestly think people using a pickit in this game will experience significantly more deaths than people who don't. I've already seen a lot of people die over being "greedy" with loot drops, and they choose to go pickup an item in the middle of a nasty mob pack. |

A lot of people will join games and do nothing but try to snipe loot.

" Yes this idea would work well in the game. I would still want to see the base timer increased a bit but I would be very happy with instanced until timer expires. IGN: Wrathmar * Paulie * Client

I'm just one person, and I haven't bought my supporter pack yet (though I do so want me a silver kiwi), but better to speak now than complain later without having tried.
Here's my plea: at least give the option for alternative looting systems. The friends I play games with have varying levels of greed, and very different styles of play. While I don't think it is the responsibility of any given game to make conflict impossible, I know I would appreciate the option to use "instanced" loot for parties where everyone is on mutual friends lists or something. Let me play with my friends without fearing a quarrel every damn time; keep FFA loot as the default if you wish. If you're going with the FFA thing because you seriously believe the game will be hurt by allowing for options - if you are afraid of compromise - then that's fair enough, even if it's not to my tastes. I just hope you aren't sticking to your guns just because you want to be Different. |

I'll second it and say FFA is negative incentive for me to play group. I would think we would want to encourage group play. I hope the devs change the current FFA.

2 cents...
This compromise timer system is simply terrible and sounds more distracting and frustrating than straight FFA. I myself will simply refrain from public multiplayer rather than tolerate any kind of FFA loot system, which is a damn shame. I do NOT see why you cannot simply give players the option for pure FFA or pure instanced then EVERYONE is happy. There is no excuse not to do this, and not doing seems like stubborness that will eventually explode in your faces. In refusing to add the option and keeping with the timer-based FFA system, I strongly believe you will achieve one thing only: kill open multiplayer for most players. This will result in POE being a single-player or friends-only game. This will absolutely kill the lifespan of the game, as Diablo 3 ably demonstrates. Multiplayer in that game is pure fail for different reasons than FFA loot, but it is dead none the less; and this has certainly contributed to a considerable loss of playerbase for that game. As a final thought, the player who most benefits from FFA loot s the player contributing LEAST to the part. They are instead positioning themselves for the loot drops and focused on that. It is WRONG to reward the player who contributes the least. There is no doubt in my mind that this game will be less successful than it could have been, if the loot system is not changed away from FFA. Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress. Last edited by GhostlightX#1022 on Jan 19, 2013, 10:21:56 AM

I have to agree with most of people in this topic. FFA is the most stupid and dumbest thing. Instanced loot is the way to start with (or at least be an option to choose from). In a game like PoE heavily focused on item farming / item picking up / filthering items from a pile of loot the lack of guarantee possibility to obtain something in a given time is worst then any other option they could come up with (round table, instanced, need/greed etc).
Like a previous posters wrote - it WILL (and its a fact) kill a public partying VERY fast. You can easily see this even now - the posters showing available parties are almost empty. As going for myself - yeah im all for soloing just because i dont wanna fight (even with my friends) for any loot. Everyone is different and its only "internet" so i wanna be kinda safe. Also the funny thing is - the topic about instanced loot and this one is still on table and they didnt even consider changing it. You know - dont wanna be a hater here and i wish PoE the best - but every game failed from something - starting from greedness ending with missed mechanics. FFA is a missed mechanic, sorry. End of topic for me ;) i got my beta key from Icoblablubb - vielen danke !!! the first (and only?) 6 linked blue sox on magic armor in beta :P Last edited by prodiii#0162 on Jan 19, 2013, 10:54:44 AM

Ny 2 cents, GhostlightX
Maybe you should try the game abit and see how you like it. And to people comparing it to instanced loot in D3 saying that its better, Well i just find that freaking hilarious. I like the idea of making the item hidden from other players when the timer is runing. But i also think something more should be added to reinforce the fact that it is FFA. I suggest removing the name on the timer, perhaps that will guide people to the correct state of mind that it's not there item yet they just have a added chance to pick it up. Come on, guys. Don't let this thread die just a few days before its second anniversary.
Chris knew two years ago that open-beta would start on the 23rd of january 2013 and that is why he started this thread. Please lock this thread after the counter for open-beta reaches 0.......oooh, and create some instanced loot before that. |
