Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

Um. the current time is 2-8. I don't know what you mean when you say distant members who had 3 seconds. Considering the timer is distant based, they obviously weren't far away.
If timer is 2-8. Push it to 4-10. Add in the previous idea. As long as there was an FFA option. Looks good to me. |

" I've read a couple of dev quotes stating that they like the current system because it creates "loot tension". Their words, not mine. I've never read a quote from the devs suggesting that the current loot system is to make someone efficient. Additionally, to my mind, an efficient party member is one who focuses on ONLY killing monsters until there are none left. Party members should be efficient to the party first, and themselves second. No consideration whatsoever should be given to picking up loot until the monsters are all dead. A person would have be truly naive to think that most players in most public games are going to place the welfare of the party above themselves. Equitability is what I expect from my team members. My strong preference would be for the loot system to enforce this. For me to buy into the current loot system, they would have to change it so that no loot drops at all, no timers start, until every monster in the immediate area is dead. Only then does the loot show up. In a very grind heavy game the death penalty equates to...more grinding.

" Hmm. Spellchecker got me. Relax. Inefficient was obviously what I meant. My point still stands. He doesn't participate. Hes just leeching. That's not loot tension. That's a bad party member. There's a difference. |

I view anyone who stops killing the monsters to rush the good loot as a leecher because at that moment in time their taking advantage of their teammates doing the work while they reap the rewards, and that appears to be how the devs want us to play.

Something worth considering: A large majority of people in Diablo 2 public games used a third party auto-pickup program called PickIt. Because so many people used it, others who wanted to play "legit" were forced to use it if they wanted to play in public games and still have a chance at decent loot. Good luck with your "cut-throat" system.
This problem was subsequently eliminated in Diablo 3. Last edited by Boonce#3420 on Jan 16, 2013, 6:04:16 PM

Yup, there is already an Autoit script up on blizzhackers to do exactly that.
I would posit that a lot of people will be using this sort of script so they don't have to worry about the loot timer so they can remain concentrated on killing monsters and deal with loot afterwards once it's safely in the inventory. Last edited by styxgeist#1287 on Jan 16, 2013, 9:42:04 PM

" +1 Making the loot invisible while the timer is up is a great idea. |
|
" Should you decide to use it. You can take any consequences that come your way .I.for.one would.prefer not to lose everything I've.obtained. your choice. |

" First of all, why do you use so many hey.text.cool.dots. in your posts? Just curious :P Secondly, pick it script is easily used without even reading packet data or being client invasive. Packet reading is vulnerable to encryption, which GGG introduced in the latest patch. Just detect pixel color and have that as a trigger. It works just like a *<35% HP Auto-Flask script*, using pixels to detect and trigger inputs. Any users of pixel triggered scripts is undetectable theoretically. And when the loot is instanced/invisible the script cant detect it and even if it does detect it somehow, it cant pick it up anyway. Last edited by Planetsurvival#1516 on Jan 16, 2013, 10:51:18 PM

" Also GGG only has 5 programmers. They aren't going to have any kind of sophisticated detection software for pick-it bots. Blizzard doesn't even have good anti-botting software for their games, and they have massive amounts of resources. |
